[Bug 1901446] Re: Add gir1.2-tepl-5 package depedency
I would argue that this is more a bug than a wishlist item. Functionality is being moved from gedit into tepl (a "Text editor product line" library). For instance, gedit_utils_str_middle_truncate() was deprecated in gedit 3.36 and removed in 3.38[1], replaced with tepl_utils_str_middle_truncate(). For my plugin Control Your Tabs, I had to inline the function[2] because I couldn't count on users (on Debian and Debian-derived OSes) having gir1.2-tepl-5 installed so that I could call tepl_utils_str_middle_truncate(). (Contrast this with the Fedora tepl rpm, which has the GObject introspection binding included in the same package[3] and so does not have this problem.) Should I file an issue upstream (Debian)? Would submitting a patch help? [Bug 1797945] Re: Lightning incompatible with Thunderbird 60.2.1
Recent versions of Thunderbird (at least the version packaged / distributed by Mozilla) has come pre-installed with Lightning; this is why the extension hasn't been updated on addons.mozilla.org. The version of Thunderbird installable from the standard Ubuntu repositories is packaged by Ubuntu. They have chosen to package the extension as a separate package (xul-ext-lightning), so the most "correct" solution to this issue is to install that package. (xul-ext-lightning being English-only appears to be long-standing issue (#545778); if this affects you I suggest contributing to that bug report.) If you would still like to install the .xpi file (perhaps because of the locale issue): 1. Visit the Thunderbird site (https://www.thunderbird.net/) and download the Linux / Linux 64-bit version of Thunderbird, matching your installed version (60.2.1 in this case) and locale. It should be a .tar.bz2 archive. 2. Extract the archive, then inside thunderbird/distribution/extensions there should be one .xpi file. That should be the corresponding version of Lightning (6.2.2.1). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1797945 Title: Lightning incompatible with Thunderbird 60.2.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1797945/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1069144] Re: [Toshiba Satellite R830-1H3] brightness control works until sleep
I managed to solve the problem in a much cleaner way. I tried to create a custom xorg.conf file with the following content but my system didn't boot. Public bug reported: I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy) and am now unable to copy files from my iPhone (with iOS 6) using Nautilus. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open a Nautilus window. 2. Middle-click on the entry (or right-click and select "Open in New Tab") to mount the iPhone file system and open a new tab. 4. Copy a file from the iPhone tab, and paste into the original tab. At this point Nautilus shows an alert box: Error while copying "". There was an error copying the into . Show more details (when expanded:) Operation not supported by backend I don't remember if Apport prompts me to report this crash immediately or after a certain amount of time, but I have a crash report in /var/crash for gvfsd-afc. I'd be happy to attach it here if necessary, though I've already reported this crash a few times; I'm sure the developers can also find it on errors.ubuntu.com under the title "gvfsd- afc crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message()". In Nautilus, I can still copy files to the iPhone and delete files from the iPhone; only copying files from the iPhone is not working. I can also view pictures from my iPhone directly, and copy files from it using Terminal (by going to the mount point in /run/user directly), so it appears only Nautilus is affected. [Bug 1232814] Re: Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to re-enable

[Bug 1232814] Re: Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to re-enable
For Saucy, indicator-session was updated to use logind (org.freedesktop.login1) instead of upower. If you check /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d/com.ubuntu.desktop.pkla, you'll see that hibernate is disabled by default in both upower and logind. So the first step to re-enable the Hibernate option is to edit /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla to something like: [Re-enable hibernate by default in upower] Identity=unix-user:* Action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate ResultActive=yes [Re-enable hibernate by default in logind] Identity=unix-user:* Action=org.freedesktop.login1.hibernate ResultActive=yes After rebooting, the login screen session menu should have a Hibernate option. After logging in, the desktop session menu still doesn't have the Hibernate option. If I kill the indicator-session-service process and wait for it to be respawned, the menu will be updated with Hibernate. I don't see anything obviously wrong in the indicator-session code, so I suspect this is a timing issue. My guess is the hibernate dbus (async) query hasn't returned a result yet when it first builds the desktop session menu. (Another clue to indicator-session building menus too early: I have a Reboot option in my desktop session menu, even though I'm using Unity and the code should have hidden it. The Reboot option is gone after indicator-session-service is killed and respawned.) I'll try to investigate more as time permits. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1232814 Title: Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to re-enable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-session/+bug/1232814/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hello, (Apologies for the duplicate email; I was silly and tried to send this through the Gmail web interface.) I'm currently on the 3.8.0 kernel with Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring) x64 on a Thinkpad x201. I have hibernation enabled by following the instructions in the official Ubuntu documentation[1]. If Bluetooth is disabled before hibernation, on resume it will be re-enabled. I have the latest BIOS installed (1.40-1.15)[2], and can reproduce this issue with the latest mainline kernel available to me (v3.11-rc3-saucy)[3]. I didn't experience this issue with the 3.5.0 kernel (with Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal), so it appears to be a regression. I've done a bisection with this result: > a57f7f9175b8ccbc9df83ac13860488913115de4 is the first bad commit > commit a57f7f9175b8ccbc9df83ac13860488913115de4 > Author: Bob Moore > Date: Fri Aug 17 10:55:02 2012 +0800 > > ACPICA: Add Windows8/Server2012 string for _OSI method. > > This change adds a new _OSI string, "Windows 2012" for both Windows 8 > and Windows Server 2012. > > From Microsoft document "How to Identify the Windows Version in ACPI > by Using _OSI", July 13, 2012. > > Signed-off-by: Bob Moore > Signed-off-by: Feng Tang > Signed-off-by: Len Brown > > :04 04 55311ce2f9fed66501b06f93f67fa99b54d46e86 > 998889c21c3b68f8072ad131b643c592a4cbe423 Mdrivers I originally logged this issue to the Ubuntu bug tracker[4], but it appears to be an upstream issue and so I was instructed to report here. [Bug 1179823] Re: Bluetooth re-enabled after resume from hibernation
I've installed the latest BIOS and the situation is unchanged. Regarding the terminal command, this is the output: 6QET70WW (1.40 ) 10/11/2012 According to the BIOS changelog (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS013909), this was an embedded controller update that improves the battery charge algorithms, so I wouldn't expect it to affect the Bluetooth module. (My BIOS was already at 1.40 when I submitted the initial bug report.) FWIW, on boot the Bluetooth LED is on, then goes off while on the initial ThinkPad screen. On the GRUB menu, the LED is still off. When it times out and the kernel continues to load, it's then that the LED comes back on again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1179823 Title: Bluetooth re-enabled after resume from hibernation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1179823/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1069144] Re: [Toshiba Satellite R830] brightness control works until sleep
I've gone through the upstream kernel testing procedure as strictly as possible and here are the results of the tests done. Test Results: 1. One line summary of the problem: [Toshiba Satellite R830] brightness control works until sleep 2. Full description of the problem/report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1069144 On my Toshiba Satellite R830, I have 13.04 AMD64. The Fn + F6, Fn + F7 buttons reduce/increase the brightness level of the screen. The issue is that they stop working after waking my computer from sleep. When this happens I cannot even control brightness by going to "System Settings/Brightness and Lock". I had Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 installed before and I had the same identical problem. With the two previous versions of Ubuntu (and hence kernels 3.2.0 and 3.5.0) there was a workaround: WORKAROUND: I modified /etc/default/grub changing the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor" Then updated grub with: sudo update-grub and the problem was solved. This workaround does not work with 13.04. Furthermore I noticed that with Ubuntu 12.10 and hence the 3.5.0 kernel, adding acpi_backlight=vendor increased the number of brightness levels. With Ubuntu raring and the 3.8.0 kernel, this grub command no longer changes the number of levels. However, it is doing something, because if I remove this grub command, when I wake my computer from sleep, the brightness level goes up to maximum, whereas with the Grub command it is remembered. I noticed that the brightness keys and brightness and lock settings change the /sys/class/backlight/toshiba/brightness value. Now this no longer has any effect on the actual brightness level after wakeup from sleep. However /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness is associated with the actual brightness level, before and after wakeup from sleep. [Bug 1069144] Fwd: Upstream testing of bug 1069144 about Toshiba brightness control after wakeup
Dear Sirs, I've gone through the upstream kernel testing procedure as strictly as possible and here are the results of the tests done. I hope this helps render Linux and Ubuntu and better product. Regards, To Do Test Results: 1. If I change this value with echo 300 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness, the level changes. 3. Keywords Toshiba, brightness control, kernel 4. [Bug 1069144] Re: [Toshiba Satellite R830] brightness control works until sleep
Tested 3.10rc3. The problem remains. No change in behaviour whatsoever. I noticed that with Ubuntu 12.10 and hence the 3.5.0 kernel, adding acpi_backlight=vendor increased the number of brightness levels. With Ubuntu raring and the 3.8.0 kernel, this grub command no longer changes the number of levels. However, it is doing something, because if I remove this grub command, when I wake my computer from sleep, the brightness level goes up to maximum, whereas with the Grub command it is remembered. A solution to me seems to make the brightness control associated with /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness instead of /sys/class/backlight/toshiba/brightness. This would solve the problem but I don't have a clue how to produce such a change without using scripts, shortcuts associated with those scripts and setting the permissions for the file to 777 or something which allows the user to change the value without using sudo. ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream-v3.10-rc3 ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069144 Title: [Toshiba Satellite R830] brightness control works until sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1069144/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1179823] Re: Bluetooth re-enabled after resume from hibernation
Tested with the latest mainline kernel; bug has not been fixed. Additionally, after resuming from hibernate and turning off Bluetooth (through System Settings), I'm no longer able to turn Bluetooth on (it flips to on then immediately off). [Bug 1179823] [NEW] Bluetooth re-enabled after resume from hibernation
Public bug reported: I'm currently running Raring x64 with the 3.8.0-19 Linux image on a Thinkpad x201. I have hibernation enabled by following the instructions in the official documentation[1]. If Bluetooth is disabled before hibernation, on resume it will be re- enabled. I have to manually disable it again in System Settings (where it still thinks Bluetooth is off, so I need to toggle the switch to on and then off again). linrunner did some testing[2] and found that this appears to be a regression in the 3.8 kernel (possibly in the thinkpad_acpi module). Please let me know if more information is needed - thanks! I'm ready to test but I'm a bit confused. 1. The 3.10rc1 kernel is labelled Precise but I'm on raring. Is this a problem? 2.
