[Bug 2072489] [NEW] AppArmor denied errors for ubuntu_pro_apt_news profile

2024-07-08 Thread Jeffery To
Public bug reported:

With ubuntu-advantage-tools 32.3.1~22.04 on jammy (22.04.4 LTS), I see
these errors in my logs once a day:

It appears that verification has been done for all platforms? Can the
fixed version be released?

I'm really tired of seeing these error messages in my server logs every
day.

[Bug 1475620] Re: grub-common does not unset "recordfail" on hibernate when using systemd

2020-11-24 Thread Jeffery To
I have opened a merge request[1] with the Debian package that addresses
this issue. Hope this can be fixed soon.

Also, I wanted to note that this isn't an issue with the upstream
project since the recordfail functionality is specific to the Debian
package[2].

[Bug 1901446] Re: Add gir1.2-tepl-5 package depedency

2020-10-26 Thread Jeffery To
I would argue that this is more a bug than a wishlist item.

Functionality is being moved from gedit into tepl (a "Text editor
product line" library). For instance, gedit_utils_str_middle_truncate()
was deprecated in gedit 3.36 and removed in 3.38[1], replaced with
tepl_utils_str_middle_truncate().

For my plugin Control Your Tabs, I had to inline the function[2] because
I couldn't count on users (on Debian and Debian-derived OSes) having
gir1.2-tepl-5 installed so that I could call
tepl_utils_str_middle_truncate(). (Contrast this with the Fedora tepl
rpm, which has the GObject introspection binding included in the same
package[3] and so does not have this problem.)

Should I file an issue upstream (Debian)? Would submitting a patch help?

[Bug 1901446] [NEW] Add gir1.2-tepl-5 package depedency

2020-10-25 Thread Jeffery To
Public bug reported:

(This is most likely a bug/request for Debian, but since I use Ubuntu I
thought I would report it here first.)

gedit in groovy depends on libtepl-5-0. It would be great if the package
also depended on gir1.2-tepl-5 so that gedit plugins written in Python
can call functions from tepl.

[Bug 1871176] Re: package lvm2 2.03.07-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: installed lvm2 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2020-05-08 Thread Jeffery To
I got this error after a few steps:

* After upgrading from eoan to focal and rebooting, I was dropped into
the initramfs shell. Exiting from the shell, I see the error message
"/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root does not exist".

* After some searching online, I reboot using my previous kernel and
reach the desktop.

* I open Synaptic and see that lvm2 was removed. When I try to install
it, I get the error in this issue.

After some more searching online, I see
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1049727/every-time-i-install-or-
remove-a-package-i-get-lvm2-error/1085420 and try the suggested answer
(purge lvm2 before reinstalling) - this worked.

[Bug 1858152] [NEW] fstrim.service no longer trims /home partition

2020-01-02 Thread Jeffery To
Public bug reported:

When I was running disco, fstrim.service would trim all of my
partitions:

Oct 21 00:00:18 computer systemd[1]: Starting Discard unused blocks on
filesystems from /etc/fstab...
Oct 21 00:00:37 computer fstrim[9588]: /home: 25 GiB (26797150208 bytes)
trimmed on /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-home
Oct 21 00:00:37 computer fstrim[9588]: /boot: 805.4 MiB (844546048 bytes)
trimmed on /dev/sda5
Oct 21 00:00:37 computer fstrim[9588]: /: 5.5 GiB (5929816064 bytes) trimmed on
/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root
Oct 21 00:00:37 computer systemd[1]: fstrim.service: Succeeded.
Oct 21 00:00:37 computer systemd[1]: Started Discard unused blocks on
filesystems from /etc/fstab.

After upgrading to eoan, my /home partition is no longer trimmed:

Oct 28 00:00:21 computer systemd[1]: Starting Discard unused blocks on
filesystems from /etc/fstab...
Oct 28 00:00:32 computer fstrim[24667]: /boot: 781.1 MiB (819011584 bytes)
trimmed on /dev/sda5
Oct 28 00:00:32 computer fstrim[24667]: /: 7.2 GiB (7696994304 bytes) trimmed
on /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root
Oct 28 00:00:32 computer systemd[1]: fstrim.service: Succeeded.
Oct 28 00:00:32 computer systemd[1]: Started Discard unused blocks on
filesystems from /etc/fstab.

Checking the unit file (/lib/systemd/system/fstrim.service), I noticed
there is a "ProtectHome=yes" option. Removing this option caused my
/home partition to be trimmed once again.

I believe the "ProtectSystem=strict" option may also cause partitions in
non-standard partition schemes to be skipped by fstrim.service (although
I have not tested this).

[Bug 1838364] [NEW] Calibre Launcher Icon is monochrome

2019-07-29 Thread To Do
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 19.04 the launcher icon is a featureless dark grey instead of the
normal one. I'm using the standard icon theme Yaru which, as far as I can tell,
doesn't include an icon for calibre. I tried changing icon themes to no avail.

[Bug 1797945] Re: Lightning incompatible with Thunderbird 60.2.1

2018-10-18 Thread Jeffery To
@Adrian Limmi:

1. Open the Add-ons Manager in Thunderbird, and go to the Extensions page/tab
(if it isn't already open).
2. At the top of the page, click the gear button next to the search box to open
a menu, then select "Install Add-on From File".
3. From here you can select the .xpi file and it should install without issue.

[Bug 545778] Re: xul-ext-lightning is only available in English

2018-10-16 Thread Jeffery To
I've extracted all of the language/locale versions of Lightning 6.2.2.1
from the Thunderbird 60.2.1 Linux (binary) release tarballs, they are
available at:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/w84dtrc73e90j3p/AABC5CeNN-
ZwoNgq9m1hQUs4a/thunderbird-60.2.1?dl=0&lst=&subfolder_nav_tracking=1

If you are reluctant to install an extension from some random Internet
person (I wouldn't blame you), you can also download the release tarball
for your locale from the Thunderbird homepage
(https://www.thunderbird.net/), then extract the .xpi file from the
thunderbird/distribution/extensions directory (inside the archive).

[Bug 1797945] Re: Lightning incompatible with Thunderbird 60.2.1

2018-10-16 Thread Jeffery To
Recent versions of Thunderbird (at least the version packaged /
distributed by Mozilla) has come pre-installed with Lightning; this is
why the extension hasn't been updated on addons.mozilla.org.

The version of Thunderbird installable from the standard Ubuntu
repositories is packaged by Ubuntu. They have chosen to package the
extension as a separate package (xul-ext-lightning), so the most
"correct" solution to this issue is to install that package.

(xul-ext-lightning being English-only appears to be long-standing issue
(#545778); if this affects you I suggest contributing to that bug
report.)

If you would still like to install the .xpi file (perhaps because of the
locale issue):

1. Visit the Thunderbird site (https://www.thunderbird.net/) and download the
Linux / Linux 64-bit version of Thunderbird, matching your installed version
(60.2.1 in this case) and locale. It should be a .tar.bz2 archive.
2. Extract the archive, then inside thunderbird/distribution/extensions there
should be one .xpi file. That should be the corresponding version of Lightning
(6.2.2.1).

[Bug 1734975] [NEW] Firefox man page severly out of date

2017-11-28 Thread To
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 16.04 (LTS) the manpage for Firefox reports a date of
2011-02-09 (!)

The man page mentions the -private flag, which has been replaced by
--private-window quite some time ago and to make matters worse, -private
actually _breaks the private mode_ until firefox gets restarted.

firefox --help shows the new flags that are available.

The report on Mozilla's bugtracker has been dismissed, because the man
page is apparently distro-provided.

A bug has also been filed for Fedora 26 (man page date 2001) here:

[Bug 1725954] Re: It is hard and nonintuitive to switch to console ttys on Ubuntu 17.10

Turns out this is the default for gdm. According to this blog post:

changing it back to previous behaviour will require recompiling gdm :-(

[Bug 1725954] Re: It is hard and nonintuitive to switch to console ttys on Ubuntu 17.10

2017-11-02 Thread Jeffery To
The fact that Ctrl-Alt-F1 now brings up the login screen is documented:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArtfulAardvark/ReleaseNotes#Ubuntu_Desktop

"GDM has replaced LightDM as the default display manager. The login
screen now uses virtual terminal 1 instead of virtual terminal 7."

(Ctrl-Alt-F1 switches to virtual terminal 1.)

I've been looking for a way to switch back to having 6 text terminals
but I haven't been successful. I've tried uncommenting "NAutoVTs=6" and
"ReserveVT=6" in /etc/systemd/logind.conf but it had no effect.

[Bug 1615347] [NEW] Local DNS server not removed when connected to OpenVPN network, when connected by both Ethernet and Wi-Fi

2016-08-21 Thread Jeffery To
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04, connected to the same network by both Ethernet
and Wi-Fi. When I query dnsmasq by running:

dig +short chaos txt servers.bind

I see only one set of DNS servers (one IPv4, one IPv6); not sure if it's
NetworkManager or dnsmasq that is de-duping the servers from both
connections.

When I connect to an OpenVPN connection (configured through NM,
IPv4-only, with no split-tunnelling) and query dnsmasq again, I see that
the VPN DNS server is present, but the local IPv4 DNS server is also
still used (dnsmasq reports two IPv4 servers, one IPv6 server). (I filed
bug #1615343 regarding the local IPv6 DNS server not being removed.)

[Bug 1615343] [NEW] IPv6 DNS server not removed when connected to IPv4-only OpenVPN VPN

2016-08-21 Thread Jeffery To
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 on a network where the DNS server is available on
both IPv4 and IPv6 (managed by a router running OpenWrt). As mentioned
in the dnsmasq manpage, I can see dnsmasq has both IPv4 and IPv6 entries
by running:

dig +short chaos txt servers.bind

I also have an IPv4-only OpenVPN connection configured through
NetworkManager (the VPN itself is IPv4-only, the NM connection is set to
Automatic for both IPv4 and IPv6), with no split-tunnelling. When I
connect to the VPN and query dnsmasq again, I see that the IPv4 entry
has been replaced by the VPN IPv4 DNS server, but the (local network)
IPv6 entry is still present.

I'm running Ubuntu 14.10 and I've noticed my Xorg log
(/var/log/Xorg.0.log) filling up with "XKB: reuse xkmfile" lines. (Not
sure how long this has been happening.) My system has been up for a bit
more than a day and my log file is 7MB.

I've tried clearing the cache files in /var/lib/xkb (as mentioned in
comment #3); the cache files are regenerated on next reboot and "XKB:
reuse xkmfile" lines continue to appear in the Xorg log.

[Bug 964756] Re: white line next to the Unity launcher after update 3-25-2012

2014-12-02 Thread To
The line is still there for me on Ubuntu 14.04. However, a similar
(possibly duplicate) bug report was set to "Won't fix" because
apparently the white line is a design feature:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1373118

The rationale for the inclusion of the line eludes me however.

[Bug 1372172] [NEW] Network manager should connect to access point with strongest signal

2014-09-21 Thread To Do
Public bug reported:

I work in an office with a number of access points and I work in
different offices. Depending on the room I'm in the access point with
the strongest signal is not the same.

What you expected to happen:
Network Manager should try to connect to the stored wifi network with the
strongest signal and not follow the list blindly.

What happened instead:
When I put my laptop on sleep and go to another office, Network Manager tries
to connect to the first network that was added instead of the one with the
strongest signal.

---
Maybe one could check how Android manages Wifi connection and copy its code
(it's a linux OS), because Android seems to connect to the strongest signal
instead.

Using Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS 64 bit.

the Authentication tab (and hence cannot be removed using the

(I found that with LP: #1182932 PPA keys are now saved in individual

with software-properties or the underlying apt library.)

[Bug 1069144] Re: [Toshiba Satellite R830-1H3] brightness control works until sleep

2014-01-10 Thread To Do
I managed to solve the problem in a much cleaner way.

I tried to create a custom xorg.conf file with the following content but
my system didn't boot.

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight" # use your backlight that
works here
EndSection

Finally, I tried the following procedure:
http://askubuntu.com/a/281685/27968

I got errors when starting lightdm BUT it created a xorg.conf.failsafe
file.

I opened it and modified it by adding the option line under "Device" as
follows:

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Configured Video Device"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
EndSection
#
Section "Monitor"
   Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection
#
Section "Screen"
   Identifier "Default Screen"
   Monitor "Configured Monitor"
   Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection

And bingo! Everything is working as it should.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-11-12 Thread To Do
There is a regression with the fix. Now, if you set the keyboard layout
switcher to Alt + Shift, some programs cannot use key combinations like
Alt +Shift + Insert. Trying to type this shortcut, changes the keyboard
layout and doesn't pass the command to the program.

It happens to me using Freeplane 1.2.23 with Openjdk 7 on an AMD64
Ubuntu 13.10.

[Bug 1069144] Re: [Toshiba Satellite R830-1H3] brightness control works until sleep

2013-10-31 Thread To Do
For the time being I am using the following workaround:

1. Created two scripts to increase and decrease the brightness (see
attachments).
2. I put them in a folder under home and made them executable.
3. Added the following line before the exit line in /etc/rc.local

chmod 646 /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness

4. Created custom keyboard shortcuts associated with these scripts. I
assigned Alt + ↑ and Alt + ↓.

Now I have two sets of brightness controls, one of which, the normal
ones (Fn + F6/F7), work until sleep. The others work before and after
sleep.

[Bug 1245963] [NEW] gvfsd-afc crashes when attempting to copy a file from an iPhone using Nautilus

2013-10-29 Thread Jeffery To
Public bug reported:

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy) and am now unable to copy
files from my iPhone (with iOS 6) using Nautilus.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a Nautilus window.
2. Attach an iPhone. Two new entries appear under Devices in the left side
panel: "" and "Documents on "
3. Middle-click on the entry (or right-click and select "Open in
New Tab") to mount the iPhone file system and open a new tab.
4. Copy a file from the iPhone tab, and paste into the original tab.

At this point Nautilus shows an alert box:
Error while copying "".
There was an error copying the into .
Show more details (when expanded:)
Operation not supported by backend

I don't remember if Apport prompts me to report this crash immediately
or after a certain amount of time, but I have a crash report in
/var/crash for gvfsd-afc. I'd be happy to attach it here if necessary,
though I've already reported this crash a few times; I'm sure the
developers can also find it on errors.ubuntu.com under the title "gvfsd-
afc crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message()".

In Nautilus, I can still copy files to the iPhone and delete files from
the iPhone; only copying files from the iPhone is not working. I can
also view pictures from my iPhone directly, and copy files from it using
Terminal (by going to the mount point in /run/user directly), so it
appears only Nautilus is affected.

Thanks!

[Bug 1205647] Re: gvfsd-smb crashed with SIGSEGV in g_vfs_job_run()

2013-10-27 Thread Jeffery To
I can reproduce this issue with the following steps:

1. Open a Nautilus window. (It defaults to my home directory.)
2. Open a new tab or window. (This also opens to my home directory.)
3. In the new tab/window, navigate to a Samba share. (I have one bookmarked so
I click on the bookmark in the left side panel.) A new entry for the share
appears under Network in the left side panel.
4. Close the new tab/window.
5. In the left side panel, under Network, click the unmount icon next to Samba
share entry.

At this point, gvfsd-smb crashes. I also get two alert boxes (I believe
from Nautilus):

1. Oops! Something went wrong.
Unhandled error message: The connection is closed

2. Unable to unmount
The connection is closed

[Bug 1232814] Re: Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to re-enable

2013-10-20 Thread Jeffery To
For Saucy, indicator-session was updated to use logind
(org.freedesktop.login1) instead of upower.

If you check
/var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d/com.ubuntu.desktop.pkla,
you'll see that hibernate is disabled by default in both upower and
logind.

So the first step to re-enable the Hibernate option is to edit
/etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla
to something like:

[Re-enable hibernate by default in upower]
Identity=unix-user:*
Action=org.freedesktop.upower.hibernate
ResultActive=yes

[Re-enable hibernate by default in logind]
Identity=unix-user:*
Action=org.freedesktop.login1.hibernate
ResultActive=yes

After rebooting, the login screen session menu should have a Hibernate
option.

After logging in, the desktop session menu still doesn't have the
Hibernate option. If I kill the indicator-session-service process and
wait for it to be respawned, the menu will be updated with Hibernate.

I don't see anything obviously wrong in the indicator-session code, so I
suspect this is a timing issue. My guess is the hibernate dbus (async)
query hasn't returned a result yet when it first builds the desktop
session menu.

(Another clue to indicator-session building menus too early: I have a
Reboot option in my desktop session menu, even though I'm using Unity
and the code should have hidden it. The Reboot option is gone after
indicator-session-service is killed and respawned.)

I'll try to investigate more as time permits.

[Bug 1239520] [NEW] AR9462 Atheros packet loss with android hotspot

2013-10-13 Thread Sonny To
Public bug reported:

I just got a dell xps 13 developer edition. unfortunately the wifi does not
work well so I upgraded to ubuntu 13.04 but no luck.
Other people are having similar problems:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/301442/atheros-ar9462-wifi-very-unstable-package-loss

Read that the problem is fixed in the 3.11 kernel but it is not. I installed
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.11.5-saucy and still doesnt
work. Then I installed the 3.12 kernel
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.12-rc5-saucy/
still has high packet loss. However if I turn off security on my android
hotspot (no WPA) I get no packet loss.

[Bug 1179823] Bluetooth re-enabled after resume from hibernation (Lenovo ThinkPad, X201 3626)

2013-08-04 Thread Jeffery To
Hello,

(Apologies for the duplicate email; I was silly and tried to send this
through the Gmail web interface.)

I'm currently on the 3.8.0 kernel with Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring) x64 on a
Thinkpad x201. I have hibernation enabled by following the instructions
in the official Ubuntu documentation[1].

If Bluetooth is disabled before hibernation, on resume it will be
re-enabled.

I have the latest BIOS installed (1.40-1.15)[2], and can reproduce this
issue with the latest mainline kernel available to me
(v3.11-rc3-saucy)[3]. I didn't experience this issue with the 3.5.0
kernel (with Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal), so it appears to be a regression.

I've done a bisection with this result:

I originally logged this issue to the Ubuntu bug tracker[4], but it
appears to be an upstream issue and so I was instructed to report here.

Included below is more information on my environment. Please let me
know if there is anything I can do to help resolve this issue.

Thanks,
Jeff

[Bug 1179823] Re: Bluetooth re-enabled after resume from hibernation

2013-08-01 Thread Jeffery To
I had to bisect the mainline kernel, since the Ubuntu kernel skipped 3.6
(the issue was in every 3.7 kernel I tried). The result:

a57f7f9175b8ccbc9df83ac13860488913115de4 is the first bad commit
commit a57f7f9175b8ccbc9df83ac13860488913115de4

I don't recall having this problem with Quantal. Also, as noted in the
original report, linrunner did some testing and found this to be a
regression in the 3.8 kernel.

[Bug 1179823] Re: Bluetooth re-enabled after resume from hibernation

2013-07-21 Thread Jeffery To
I've installed the latest BIOS and the situation is unchanged.

Regarding the terminal command, this is the output:

6QET70WW (1.40 )
10/11/2012

According to the BIOS changelog
(http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS013909),
this was an embedded controller update that improves the battery charge
algorithms, so I wouldn't expect it to affect the Bluetooth module. (My
BIOS was already at 1.40 when I submitted the initial bug report.)

FWIW, on boot the Bluetooth LED is on, then goes off while on the
initial ThinkPad screen. On the GRUB menu, the LED is still off. When it
times out and the kernel continues to load, it's then that the LED comes
back on again.

Sorry but I don't understand your request. The testing I had done on

I did not go through all the procedure again for 3.10-rc4. I simply
installed, tried the brightness controls which worked before putting to
sleep. Put my laptop to sleep and woke it up again. Brightness controls
didn't work any longer.

2013-06-05 Thread To Do
I went through the changes file in the 3.10-rc4-saucy folder and there's
absolutely no reference to brightness, acpi, video, toshiba, power
management.

Is it really worth testing if no changes have been done with respect to
this issue?

I sent an e-mail with the testing results to the maintainers but didn't
receive a reply.

The reporting procedure says to post this issue on bugzilla if no reply
is received. No time limit is given in the procedure. In your opinion,
till when should I wait before posting on bugzilla?

[Bug 1069144] Re: [Toshiba Satellite R830] brightness control works until sleep

2013-05-28 Thread To Do
I've gone through the upstream kernel testing procedure as strictly as
possible and here are the results of the tests done.

Test Results:

1. One line summary of the problem:
[Toshiba Satellite R830] brightness control works until sleep

2. Full description of the problem/report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1069144
On my Toshiba Satellite R830, I have 13.04 AMD64. The Fn + F6, Fn + F7
buttons reduce/increase the brightness level of the screen. The issue is
that they stop working after waking my computer from sleep. When this
happens I cannot even control brightness by going to "System
Settings/Brightness and Lock". I had Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 installed
before and I had the same identical problem.

With the two previous versions of Ubuntu (and hence kernels 3.2.0 and
3.5.0) there was a workaround:
WORKAROUND: I modified /etc/default/grub changing the line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

to:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux
acpi_backlight=vendor"

Then updated grub with:
sudo update-grub

and the problem was solved.

This workaround does not work with 13.04. Furthermore I noticed that
with Ubuntu 12.10 and hence the 3.5.0 kernel, adding
acpi_backlight=vendor increased the number of brightness levels. With
Ubuntu raring and the 3.8.0 kernel, this grub command no longer changes
the number of levels. However, it is doing something, because if I
remove this grub command, when I wake my computer from sleep, the
brightness level goes up to maximum, whereas with the Grub command it is
remembered.

I noticed that the brightness keys and brightness and lock settings
change the /sys/class/backlight/toshiba/brightness value. Now this no
longer has any effect on the actual brightness level after wakeup from
sleep. However /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness is
associated with the actual brightness level, before and after wakeup
from sleep. If I change this value with echo 300 | sudo tee
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness, the level changes.

I noticed that there's a tag with Bios version 3.9. Actually I have
Bios version 4.10

[Bug 1069144] Re: [Toshiba Satellite R830] brightness control works until sleep

2013-05-28 Thread To Do
Tested 3.10rc3. The problem remains. No change in behaviour whatsoever.

I noticed that with Ubuntu 12.10 and hence the 3.5.0 kernel, adding
acpi_backlight=vendor increased the number of brightness levels. With
Ubuntu raring and the 3.8.0 kernel, this grub command no longer changes
the number of levels. However, it is doing something, because if I
remove this grub command, when I wake my computer from sleep, the
brightness level goes up to maximum, whereas with the Grub command it is
remembered.

A solution to me seems to make the brightness control associated with
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness instead of
/sys/class/backlight/toshiba/brightness. This would solve the problem
but I don't have a clue how to produce such a change without using
scripts, shortcuts associated with those scripts and setting the
permissions for the file to 777 or something which allows the user to
change the value without using sudo.

[Bug 1179823] Re: Bluetooth re-enabled after resume from hibernation

2013-05-15 Thread Jeffery To
Tested with the latest mainline kernel; bug has not been fixed.

Additionally, after resuming from hibernate and turning off Bluetooth
(through System Settings), I'm no longer able to turn Bluetooth on (it
flips to on then immediately off). Not sure if this is related.

To clarify, the "no longer able to turn Bluetooth on" issue affects the
3.10 kernel only.

[Bug 1179823] [NEW] Bluetooth re-enabled after resume from hibernation

2013-05-14 Thread Jeffery To
Public bug reported:

I'm currently running Raring x64 with the 3.8.0-19 Linux image on a
Thinkpad x201. I have hibernation enabled by following the instructions
in the official documentation[1].

If Bluetooth is disabled before hibernation, on resume it will be re-
enabled. I have to manually disable it again in System Settings (where
it still thinks Bluetooth is off, so I need to toggle the switch to on
and then off again).

linrunner did some testing[2] and found that this appears to be a
regression in the 3.8 kernel (possibly in the thinkpad_acpi module).

Please let me know if more information is needed - thanks!

[Bug 1069144] Re: [Toshiba Satellite R830] brightness control works until sleep

2013-05-13 Thread To Do
I checked again and now the 3.10 kernel is labelled "saucy" and there's
no longer any virtual packages. It is lacking the extras package. I'll
try it and see what happens.

[Bug 1069144] Re: [Toshiba Satellite R830] brightness control works until sleep

2013-05-12 Thread To Do
I'm ready to test but I'm a bit confused.

1. The 3.10rc1 kernel is labelled Precise but I'm on raring. Is this a problem?
2. There are two different kernel sets, one labelled "generic" and one
"virtual". There is no linux-image-extras "generic" but there is one for
"virtual". Which is the one to test?

Thanks for your help.
