[Bug 282858] Re: Ubuntu-xen-desktop does not install a dom0 kernel
Official support for Xen on Ubuntu/Fedora isn't likely to be offered until Xen dom0 support gets into mainline linux. For updates on that effort and other alternatives for dom0 kernels to try see: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenDom0Kernels http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenParavirtOps So, it is a bug, but the current workaround takes some manual work. There are some very good howtos that can be found online that explain in detail how to get various kernels working on various versions of Ubuntu. The reason that the package is installable is that it does include the Xen hyperviosor and tools. A warning to the users about the package not including a dom0 kernel is a good idea. [Bug 354288] Re: ssh keys for user are not owned by the user [Jaunty] [PATCH]
At first I tried to go the os.chown way, but there were a few complications that made the code less elegant. First, the chown command takes, as the 2nd and 3rd arguments, the uid and gid of the user. The user that needs to own the .ssh directory and its contents is a user that is created within the chroot. While it is possible to get the information with the pwd module, it is a lot easier to simply do the chroot and then use chown command within the chroot. Other suggestions or code are welcome for review. [Bug 351943] Re: ubuntu-xen-server installs, but complains that it needs Python 2.5 in Jaunty
There hasn't been a linux-xen kernel since 8.04, hardy. The hardy kernel should work fine for your Xen kernel though. The intrepid xen hypervisor was backpored to hardy see: http://bderzhavets.wordpress.com/2008/11/13/backport-intrepid-xen-33-hypervisor-at-ubuntu-hardy-dom0-2624-21-xen/ Maybe somebody will backport the xen hypervisor, etc. that is in Jaunty. In any case, this bug is a duplicate and will be marked as won't fix until xen dom0 get's into mainline. for updates on the status follow: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenParavirtOps -- ubuntu-xen-server installs, but complains that it needs Python 2.5 in Jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351943 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 132256] Re: [Feature request] symlinks for hvmloader and qemu-dm
It probably is still a problem, since Ubuntu's upstream (Debian) doesn't (I don't think) fix it either for some reason. Manually making the symlinks or having the tools just be smart enough to handle it is acceptable for most people anyway. That is why it was considered a feature request and not a real bug. -- [Feature request] symlinks for hvmloader and qemu-dm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132256 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 282858] Re: Ubuntu-xen-desktop does not install a dom0 kernel
This is not a bug, it is expected. A dom0 kernel is not included in 8.10 (intrepid). I would expect that the hardy dom0 should work, but haven't personally tested it. You could also consider the dom0 kernel from xen.org, debian, or opensuse. Xen dom0 support on ubuntu should be back once xen dom0 support is in mainline Linux, this is expect in 2.6.28 or so. Fedora is doing the same thing with dom0 support. opensuse and now debian unstable have recent forward-ported kernels. upstream references: http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenParavirtOps http://xenbits.xensource.com/paravirt_ops/patches.hg/ -- Ubuntu-xen-desktop does not install a dom0 kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282858 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I just did an dist-upgrade to intrepid and Xen + X now works! One thing to watch out for is, at least for me, the upgrade uninstalled bridge-utils. The redirecting of stdin/stdout/stderr streams as directed in the link above doesn't seem to fix the problem. During my 7.10 to 8.04 upgrade, in the gnome-terminal I get the following message (since I ran update-manager from the terminal) extracting '/tmp/tmpkC8cub/hardy.tar.gz' authenticate '/tmp/tmpkC8cub/hardy.tar.gz' against '/tmp/tmpkC8cub/hardy.tar.gz.gpg' This caused the upgrade to hang trying to configure/generate locales Generating locales... en_AU.UTF-8... This then leads to the bug that dpkg -configure -a must be then run from the command line to re-configure the unconfigured packages. update- manager on next load, doesn't alert of the problem. [Bug 204010] Re: networking not working
Dirk: could you post the config (differences) for those two kernels. Maybe we are missing a module or like suggested above, maybe an iptable or similar configuration is broken with either the kernel or a xen setting that relies on something in the kernel. -- networking not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204010 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Did anyone try making a manual bridge. [Bug 205450] Re: xend fails to connect guest to dom0 block device or loopback file
My best guess is that it is a problem with the xen initrd (/boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-12-xen). It seems to be only loading the fuse module and not the SCSI modules or any of the xen modules. The following are loaded by xend: blktap blkbk xenblk netloop netbk Do any of these and possible also SCSI modules need to be explicitly in the initrd too? Could this fix also be applied to the ati side of things?
