Can't even work around this by using Akonadi Console to ('configure
remote') set the Authentication to "1" instead of "9" because it's reset
shortly after Kmail starts, and you get the popup of doom from Google
again :(

[Bug 1840007] Re: Kmail reports "Could not read the password" when trying to set an IMAP account online

2019-11-12 Thread Tom Chiverton
Work around isn't possible.
As soon as you set the IMAP server to imap.gmail.com you can see the password
field goes disabled and the advanced connection settings are disabled and
"gmail" type is forced.
This "helpful" would seem easy to undo, and then at least there would then be a
way to connect KMail to Gmail again, because right now the feature is dead (and
has been for months ?!?).
Suggest raising importance to something higher because it's an important
feature, with no possible end user work around.

[Bug 1840007] Re: Kmail reports "Could not read the password" when trying to set an IMAP account online

2019-11-12 Thread Tom Chiverton
Workaround doesn't work in Kmail v5.7.3 because both password and connection
settings (to set to "plain") are disabled.
Even for a freshly created IMAP connection.
Something in KDE is disabling these because the email is @gmail ?

[Bug 1770943] Re: Computing preferences dialog is empty

2019-08-01 Thread Tom Chiverton
Today I noticed although you still can't open the computing preferences
from the default "simple" view, if you change to "advanced" using the
"view" menu, the "ootions, computing preferences" window now works.

[Bug 1812114] [NEW] Dell 7275 integrated webcam not detected

2019-01-16 Thread Tom Chiverton
Public bug reported:

Duel booting with Windows shows the hardware works out-of-the-box there.
Windows device manager calls it 'Intel AVSteam Camera 2500' on 'Intel HD
Graphics 515'.

It claims the attach path is video\ven_8086\subsys\06D61028

Upgrading to the 18.04 HWE kernel hasn't changed things.

syslog, lspci and lsusb attached.

Users don't switch DE often. It's a cache - if it's removed not too much
of deal.

[Bug 1763977] Re: Sddm service fails in Bionic

2018-04-24 Thread Tom Chiverton
You've marked this as fix released, yet it only address' Calaudio's
issue, which was not the one originally reported.

Can you just adjust the post-install script to ensure the group is
assigned correctly ?

Rebooted several times, stays fixed with rc.local empty.

This suggest you need to add something to the post-install script ?

[Bug 1763977] Re: Sddm service fails in Bionic

2018-04-21 Thread Tom Chiverton
Got worse for me with 0.17.0-1ubuntu7

Now don't even get the drop to "/ is clean" text mode.

Workaround of starting sddm via systemd from rc.local no longer works

just putting "sddm" in rc.local does work.

sddm.service symptom unchanged

over, scheduling restart.

[Bug 1763977] [NEW] Sddm service fails in Bionic

2018-04-14 Thread Tom Chiverton
Public bug reported:

Some time in the last few days, on the Bionic beta, SDDM fails to start.

Visible symptom is the Kubuntu logo pulsing for around a minute
(normally replaced by graphical login screen in a few seconds). Then
drops to text mode with single line at the top saying / is clean. I can
change to the 2nd text console, and run "sddm" fine.

End of journalctl -b | grep sddm :

[Bug 1763977] Re: Sddm service fails in Bionic

2018-04-14 Thread Tom Chiverton
Workaround : echo "service sddm start" >> /etc/rc.local

This indicates it's not a misconfiguration or hardward issue. SDDM is
simply starting too early.

2014-02-21 Thread Tom Chiverton
Can any one else confirm that directly changing via the command line is
instant ? It certainly is for me eg.

$ cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/max_brightness
976
$ cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
123
$ echo 600 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
600
$ echo 200 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
200

[Bug 1243399] [NEW] powers off instead of sleep under KDE4

2013-10-22 Thread Tom Chiverton
Public bug reported:

Looks like a regression of #268734 - it's exactly the same.

KDE4 power settings say to sleep when power button pressed, but instead
the machine powers off - obvious data loss bug.

If I comment out the final line of /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh and add 'touch
/tmp/fail' then the file in /tmp/ is created.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10
Package: acpi-support 0.142
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-12.19-generic 3.11.3

UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)

[Bug 268734] Re: immediate shutdown after pressing shutdown button

2013-10-22 Thread Tom Chiverton
This appears to have reappeared in Saucy. I've opened a new bug. Despite
comment:21 the acpi scripts still try to do all sorts of extra weird
checks rather than just seeing kded and leaving that to take care of
things.

[Bug 975327] Re: libhupnp 1.0.0, cagibi =0.2, kio-upnp-ms, all needed in repositories

2013-05-02 Thread Tom Chiverton
bug #682404 is now fix-commited.

It's 2013 and KDE still can't connect to uPNP / DLNA out of the box.
Worse, Amarok pretends it can, but the feature is very effectively
broken because ticking the box can't do anything.

What can I do to help ? Is there a PPA for the missing two (?) packages
end users can use in the mean time ?
