[Bug 1946806] Re: kdeconnect not available in repositories for 20.04
Thanks Hans - I had done what you suggested several times before reporting the bug. But I tried again today and found the error did not recur. kdeconnect installed without a problem. It's conceivable that there was an issue with the availability of that package in the repositories before, but the issue has now been fixed. I really don't know! Sorry to take up your time on this. I'm not sure whether to change the status on this bug report. [Bug 1946806] [NEW] kdeconnect not available in repositories for 20.04
Public bug reported: When I try to install kdeconnect, I get error messages indicating that the package is not available in the repository (for 20.04 "focal") WHAT I EXPECTED: I would enter the code "sudo apt install kdeconnect" in a terminal and get a response indicating that the package was being installed. [Bug 1775487] Re: Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0 Flash Drive doesn't work in USB 3 ports
I have the same, or at least similar issue as @Adam. I also have a Sandisk Ultra USB Flash Drive (but 64 GB). It is recognized and mounted by the operating system when I plug it in directly to my laptop's USB 3.0 ports. I also use a USB 3.0 4-port hub to allow connection of mouse, keyboard, (and ideally, flash drives). The laptop, mouse, keyboard and hub work well together. I presume mouse and keyboard use USB 2.0. However, when I connect the Flash Drive thru the USB hub, it isn't recognized. See outputs of "lsusb" below. (In fact, if I wait for 10-30min, sometimes it is recognized, suggesting that some system event triggers recognition. I'm alerted by the appearance of a mounted drive on the system. However, this recognition/mounting is usually temporary.) MY SYSTEM: OS: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Linux Release: 4.15.0-33-generic Linux Version: #36-Ubuntu SMP Wed Aug 15 16:00:05 UTC 2018 Laptop: Lenovo T580 Thinkpad (2 x USB 3.0 ports) USB Hub: Targus ACH124 4-Port Hub (USB 3.0) Drive: Sandisk Ultra USB Flash Drive (USB 3.0) Note that the same hub and flash drive worked well together on an older laptop (with USB 2.0 ports) using an older OS (Ubuntu 16.04). They also used to work well with the current laptop and OS, but not after suspend. I'm guessing that a kernel or OS update/patch changed this behaviour. There seem to be several reports of drives having difficulty being recognised under USB 3.0 protocols, suggesting the problem lies in the USB 3.0 implementation within the linux kernel. Some of these reports involve USB hubs, for example: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1693842 https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/678lri/usb_3_ports_no_longer_working/ Below are outputs from command "lsusb" under both scenarios. [Bug 1757583] Re: Annotations Not Embedded using File > Save As...
I further investigated this problem. My initial report was based on annotations to a document sent by a bank. Some forums report that document DRM properties affect the ability to create/edit annotation. See: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/278874/newer-version-of-okular-can-no-longer-annotate-certain-pdf-files https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341999 I was always able to annotate the bank PDF. I just couldn't embed the annotations by using File > Save As... When I tested again with a PDF I generated from LibreOffice, I found that annotations were successfully embedded using File > Save As... I used another computer with the same OS and Okular version to replicate these tests for both the LibreOffice and bank PDFs, and the results were the same. I also replicated these tests on the first computer after changing the DRM setting in Okular (I went to Settings > Configure Okular > General Tab, unchecked "Obey DRM Limitations", and restarted the computer). The results were the same. I conclude that failure to embed annotations using "File > Save As..." is LIKELY related to DRM but isn't affected by the setting for "Obey DRM Limitations". My revised recommendation: investigate the annotation-saving behaviour to determine whether its DRM-related, and modify Okular to communicate such problems to the user and provide an effective and documented ways of embedding annotations for all PDFs. ** Bug watch added: KDE Bug Tracking System #341999 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341999 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1757583 Title: Annotations Not Embedded using File > Save As... [Bug 1757583] [NEW] Annotations Not Embedded using File > Save As...
Public bug reported: Under previous versions of Okular, I have been able to embed annotations within a PDF file by using File > Save As... Recently I found that this operation was no longer embedding the annotations. In other words, the annotations were no longer present when annotated PDFs (saved using Save As...) were opened with another software or on another computer. I am using: OS: Ubuntu 16.04LTS Okular 0.24.2 (the version currently available in the standard Ubuntu repositories) This problem has been observed by others since October 2017 - see http ://thomas-cokelaer.info/blog/2017/10/okular-export-annotations-in-the- pdf-file/ That blog entry provides an effective workaround: simply use File > Print... > Print to File (PDF). The blog makes no mention of Ubuntu. I can see that KDE is now using Okular 1.3, which handles annotations very differently, routinely embedding annotations within the PDF file. Recommendation: make changes to Okular for Ubuntu so that annotation storage options (centralised with the package, or embedded in individual files) are transparent and easily changeable by the user. If this is too hard, then I recommend restoring the embedding of annotations through File > Save As... ** Affects: okular (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1757583 Title: Annotations Not Embedded using File > Save As... [Bug 1508772] [NEW] Maximized windows won't move back to Workspace Left
Public bug reported: Under a setup with two Workspaces (Left and Right), a maximized window can be moved from the Left to the Right Workspace using the right-click menu from the title bar, but it can't be moved back to the Left Workspace again with this method. If the window is restored to a non- maximized state, then it can be moved back. Steps to repeat: - Create a desktop with two horizontal workspaces (easily done with Unity Tweak). - Open a window. e.g. LibreOffice Writer - Maximise the window. - Right click on window's title bar and select Move to Workspace Right. Window moves. - Change Workspaces to see the affected window (e.g. by clicking on the related Launcher icon). - Right click on the window's title bar and select Move to Workspace Left. Window DOESN'T move (though expected to). - Unmaximize window and repeat previous step. Window DOES move. My OS: Ubuntu 14.04LTS. My version of compiz: 0.9.11.3. I have found the same issue using Ubuntu 13.04 and Files 3.6.3 i.e. Delete key works on the Linux partition but not on the NTFS partition. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1177671 Title: Delete button stopped working after upgrade to 13.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1177671/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1192046] [NEW] Ubuntu 13.04 crashes even after reinstallation
Public bug reported: I have had numerous crashes since installing Ubuntu 13.04 from disk. Reinstalling from the same disk did not solve the problem. Typically, mouse actions begins to become unresponsive, and when shortcuts to log off or shutdown are tried, nothing happens. Eventually, I resort to regular use of SysRq to reboot the machine. I've maintained a log - see below - that indicates that the problem does not appear related to the opening/use of specific applications by the user. I am not sure if I've placed this bug report against the right package. --- -Start of Log-- Crashes/crashing have been occurring since installation of Ubuntu 13.04 on 17 May 2013 (installed as dual boot beside existing Windows Vista system. I removed Firefox webapps related to Gmail and Gcalendar. 30/5/13 - having thought it was related to either Firefox or Libreoffice, when a crash happened without firefox being open (Libreoffice and Chrome were), I reinstalled Libreoffice. During the removal and re-installation process, I noticed that Writer retained my auto-correct and custom dictionary settings. Clearly, some files from the previous installation were carried across into the new one. 30/5/13 - Sometime after reinstallation of Libreoffice, I got an Ubuntu internal error message saying the error related to executable path was ...soffice.bin i.e. Libreoffice Sometime after this, the computer crashed. 30/5/13 - I ran memtest86+ from the Grub screen and allowed it to to run 3 times. It detected no errors in this time. I found out that the place to look for crash log data is : /var/log/kern.log 30/5/13 - No crashes tonight - worked with libreoffice only, with occasional use of Chrome, closing Chrome when not needed. 31/5/13 - Today around 1300, the computer crashed about 30 min after startup. Libreoffice (Writer and Calc) were the only user-initiated programs running. Four files were open (a) xls, 2.7MB (b) xls, 134KB (c) doc, 641KB (d) odt, 44KB. Files (Nautilus?), Chrome and Firefox had been used earlier but weren't running at time of crash. I rebooted using SysRq s-u-b. 31/5/13 - 15.28 - Crash again. After operating for a short time (20 minutes). User-initiated running software: Calc, Writer and Chrome. I rebooted using SysRq s-u-b. - 1/6/13 - I reinstalled Ubuntu 13.04 from CD. Before doing so, I saved a list of the installed packages. After reinstalling Ubuntu, I then reloaded these packages automtatically. Not everything got reloaded. e.g. not Chromium, not Tweak (even though these are in the standard Ubuntu repositories). I then worked for 1 hour without a crash using libreoffice. 2/6/13 - I had a crash at 1500 about 2 hours after booting up without having opened any Libreoffice apps. Graphics went funny and mouse became gradually less responsive. I rebooted using Alt+SysRq combination with s-u-b. I then ran sudo dpkg --configure -a which finished installation of some packages I'd been installing when the system crashed. I then ran sudo apt-get -f install and got the output in the point below - seems all is good! Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required: kde-l10n-engb Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove it. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. 2/6/13 - Around 1730, I had another crash. The only user-initiated software that was running was nautilus, chromium and Libreoffice (writer and calc). After rebooting, I got a couple of Internal Error messages for Ubuntu, one related to the executable path .../Xorg. 2/6/13 - Around 2300, I had another crash. The only user-initiated software I was running was libreoffice (writer and calc). 2/6/13 - At 2350, I got an Ubuntu Internal Error message reporting an issue with executable path /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice.bin (Title: soffice.bin crashed with SIGABRT in raise() ) 3/6/13- I booted computer at 0815, and then it crashed around 1000. The only user-initiated software running was nautilus and libreoffice (writer and calc). Crash occurred immediately after opening Calc. Chromium had been running previously. 3/6/13 - Around midnight or soon after - computer crashed again, after/during being left alone for a while. Commence working without USB Stick--- Note: Prior to this, I was regularly reading/writing data to a USB stick as part of my normal operation. 4/6/13 - 1200 - I revised my working method that had included standard use of files from my USB Stick. My main library will now be on the Vista partition of my laptop, with backups on the family drive and my USB Stick. 4/6/13 - 1400 - Computer crashed again. No USB stick in use. User initiated software: libreoffice (writer, 3 docs), chromium, nautilus (Files), Zotero Standalone. After reboot, I got an Ubuntu
[Bug 1192021] [NEW] Mouse and touchpad settings not recalled after logging out and then logging in again
Public bug reported: Under Ubuntu 13.04, I'm finding I can change mouse and touchpad speed settings using the Settings Window (System Settings Mouse and Touchpad). These changes are retained after closing the Settings Window. However, the changes to the settings are NOT SHOWN on re-opening the Settings Window. Instead, the default values are shown. More importantly, the changes are not retained after logging out. When I log in again, the settings have returned to their default values. I experimented with changing mouse speed settings using xinput, and found, similarly, that these changes affected the current session but weren't retained for future sessions. A similar problem is reported under Bug #1176035, and I will likely append this bug to that report. However, that user reports (perhaps mistakenly?) that changes to mouse speed settings are not retained after closing the Settings Window. [Bug 586200] [NEW] Can't Add New Contacts When Offline from MS Exchange Server
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Whilst using a locally synchronized contacts folder associated with an MS Exchange Server in off-line mode, I am not able to add new contacts. I get a message inaccurately saying that I am trying to move a contact from one address book to another and that it can't be removed from the source. I am asked whether to copy instead of move. If I say no, I return to the data entry form ie. nil result. If I say yes, I get another error message saying; Error Adding Contact. Repository offline. Either way, the contact cannot be saved. If I resume online mode, the contact can be saved. 0) The package is Evolution 2.28.3 1) The release of Ubuntu is 10.04. 2) The version of the package is : 2.28.3-0ubuntu9 3) What you expected to happen? I expected the new contact record to be saved locally, and then added to the MS Exchange files later when online mode was available. 4) What happened instead: see notes above ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Can't Add New Contacts When Offline from MS Exchange Server https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/586200 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
