I got this issue while connecting Lenovo G70 to an external monitor
using HDMI cable. I was able to workaround this by replacing Nvidia

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1226962

I can confirm this is not a duplicate of #1226962, this only occurs in
LibreOffice and not in other applications.
I can also confirm that removing the libreoffice-gtk package fixes this issue
at the price of getting a less friendly UI.

[Bug 1283589] Re: [Samsung NP530U3C-A01] LID close, AC, and battery status events not produced anymore

2014-02-23 Thread Tomer
@tkedwards
Only that rule was made to prevent multiple bugs being cluttered together in
one bug report, not to be taken literally as a means of filling the bug system
with hundreds of useless duplicates, and I quote:
Don't amalgamate every issue and hardware you find a problem in after an
update... Instead, do a separate report for each distinct issue, on each
hardware. This is how different hardware can have similar problematic symptoms
(ex. computer won't boot), but different root causes, and patches that fix the
different causes.
Obviously this doesn't mean that every affected user should file a separate
report for a common problem - otherwise what's the point of having the this
affects me too on the top.

[Bug 971061] Re: acpi reports battery state incorrectly

2014-02-22 Thread Tomer
Hello Christopher M. Penalver,
I am amazed by your actions in this bug.
The Ubuntu bug triage team should work on making sure bugs are fixed, not on
closing bugs that affect hundreds of users because of technicalities.
juanmanuel found a solution for this bug after almost a year without any action
on part of the ubuntu team, and your response, instead of making sure the fix
gets incorporated into Ubuntu, is to close the bug report???
I simply cannot see the logic of your actions - other then wanting to show a
large number of bug reports closed, no matter what.
I am reopening the bug and I am sure everyone here who are affected would agree
that juanmanuels fix (which works so far for everyone involved) should be used
rather then filing more useless bug reports for the bug that already has a fix.

[Bug 971061] Re: acpi reports battery state incorrectly

2014-02-22 Thread Tomer
Christopher,
You are abusing your power as member of the bug control team.
This bug has no reason being closed, other then taking two years to be noticed
by the ubuntu team, during which the original reporter changed his hardware.
However, the bug has been confirmed by multiple other users over the time, and
a fix has been found and confirmed to be working by many of the people affected
(myself included).
Why on earth would you want to close this bug instead of making sure the fix
makes it to the kernel team???

[Bug 1158834] Re: Daylight saving dates for Asia/Jerusalem need updating

2013-09-08 Thread Tomer Cohen
According to 'timedatectl' command, my system is set to remove the DST
bit in a month from now, which means that Ubuntu users didn't suffer
from today catastrophe, but if these users will be naive and think that
their machines are up-to-date, it'd hit them when no one will alert
enough time in advance, on October 6th.

$ timedatectl
  Local time: א' 2013-09-08 15:52:00 IDT
  Universal time: א' 2013-09-08 12:52:00 UTC
Timezone: Asia/Jerusalem (IDT, +0300)
 NTP enabled: yes
NTP synchronized: no
 RTC in local TZ: no
  DST active: yes
Last DST change: DST began at
  ו' 2013-03-29 01:59:59 IST
  ו' 2013-03-29 03:00:00 IDT
Next DST change: DST ends (the clock jumps one hour backwards) at
  א' 2013-10-06 01:59:59 IDT
  א' 2013-10-06 01:00:00 IST

We need this emergency fix as soon as possible, because users are
starting to look for workarounds, and not all these workarounds are good
enough for daily use, and these workarounds could break packages when an
update will arrive.

[Bug 538958] Re: Magnifying glass for choosing time zone

2013-04-25 Thread Tomer Shalev
The user should be prompted with a listbox of some sort, containing all
the nearby places.

Also, not all users are map-aware. They know they are in country XYZ,
but they are not educated enough to pinpoint the exact location on the
map. The users should have an alternative display of available
locations.

[Bug 240133]

2013-02-03 Thread Tomer-moz-bugs
I've found that Chromium does have MHTML support[1], although it is
still marked as experimental and require manual toggling in its
configuration page. Supporting MHTML would allow us to easily make
desktop HTML5 portable applications, and I think it would be more useful
to our users and more reflecting our mission to support the web, than,
for example, building our own built in PDF viewer.

The ministry of interior affairs (Misrad HaPnim) website is known to be
problematic in Firefox due to javascript issue on the website. They are

more information here - http://israeliweb.blogli.co.il/archives/25 (see

[Bug 23267] Re: Default Hebrew fonts in Firefox are unreadable, ugly

2009-12-19 Thread Tomer Cohen
I can confirm this is an upstream bug, which I wish to fix for years.
Fixing it is not to complicated, and won't require too much work, but I
am not too familiar with the default fonts that ship with Ubuntu and
Linux in general. If someone want to help, please contact me.

Workaround: Installing msttcorefonts (Microsoft Windows core fonts) will
make the fonts more readable, but this package is non-free and is not
installed by default.

Please can you answer the following question:

If I open a directory in Nautilus, select a file, and press delete - will I

And now I close all windows, and select a file on the desktop, then press
delete - will I be presented with a confirmation dialog-box?

Should these two scenarios behave the same? Isn't the desktop a specific

[Bug 239222] Re: CTRL + W is not working while keyboard layout is on Hebrew

2009-04-13 Thread Tomer Cohen
Shachar - As not every Mozilla contributor is monitoring every Linux
distribution and other bug tracking system, issues are not assigned to
the right person. In this case, we were aware of this issue, but it is
possible that Mozilla will not be aware of Linux issues just because
some smart people prefer to report in Ubuntu system, in which no one is
monitoring and issues are never forwarded to the upstream maintainers.
The only way to make things better for Ubuntu users and Linux in general
is to always report issues to the right project, which is Mozilla in
this case.

As you can see in the previous comments, until I pointed to the right
bug in Mozilla, people here gave the reporter some advices how to get
rid of the problem, which in this case won't help him, just because the
other people are not aware of similar issues in Mozilla. If the reporter
was searching in Mozilla, or filing a new bug (which will be than closed
as duplicate) - it was much more helpful for Mozilla, and the original
maintainers will be more aware of this issue and the affected users of
it.

Yaron - Do you mind telling me why you are talking about upstreams when

am misunderstanding you, but I am not sure if this is the case.

Lior Kaplan is too lazy to login and add his comment. I hope he is watching
this bug. In the meantime, he requested to publish here the following posts
from 2005 which talks on this subject -
http://linmagazine.co.il/node/view/8841
http://linmagazine.co.il/node/view/9820

Since Kaplan gave up implementing this in Debian, there is no need to
re-implement it in Ubuntu. Since the command line itself is in English,
I don't think anyone who don't understand English at all will ever use
the command line.

and probably because of configuration error are being shipped in Ubuntu.
I suggest creating a new bug for removing Hebrew support from console
applications (please select carefully which packages, as some of them we

get it fixed in 9.04.

[Bug 325324] Re: Hebrew not displayed correctly in terminal

2009-02-23 Thread Tomer Cohen
I am sorry, you wrong.

DOS never had Hebrew support and the characters set was limited to
Extended ASCII (8 bit). Linux terminal is much more powerful and can
support wide range of characters and styles. As for printers, the main
reason you see them running on DOS operating system and using pinhead
printers is because only there they have good support for Hebrew
characters. Trust me, I know what I am talking about, I was
administrating the computers for such companies until few years ago.

As for Linux - Please never translate programs in visual order
characters, as this will cause everyone troubles when they will try more
advanced things, such as showing that text inside software which is
capable for showing unicode characters and has BiDi support. It is
possible that in case you have dpkg translated, for example, you will
see Hebrew text reversed inside update-manager and synaptic. Since you
don't want to break GUI programs, you should not use visual order texts.

The previous decision in Debian have been decided by talent people. You
should not change this without first asking them for advice, even if you
own a distribution, since this will make bad experience for users.

You can, however, create a separate bugs for enabling BiDi support in
gnome-terminal and every other console/terminal application, but until
most of the application have stable BiDi support you should not place
dirty hacks such as reversing text.

[Bug 95853] Re: Delete file in Nautlus - no warning

2009-02-09 Thread Tomer Shalev
We should differentiating the two ways of sending a file to the trash
bin - dragging and dropping, or pressing the Delete key.

In the case of drag'n'drop, it is not expected to confirm the file
'deletion'. This is the way it is done on MS Windows also.

In the case of pressing 'Delete', I believe it is expected (by default!) to
confirm the file operation. It is reasonable to include an option to disable
the confirmation, either by a system setting, or by a 'Don't ask again'
check-box shown on the confirmation dialog (unchecked when shown).
File deletion confirmation when pressing 'Delete' is also used in MS Windows. I
believe this is the expected behavior by the majority of users, especially new
and inexperienced users. As said, more advanced users can disable this feature.

The facts are that users accidentally delete files by pressing 'Del'
button, and sometimes they don't notice that, as the icon just
disappears (is there any sound played by default?). Later, after
emptying the recycle bin, they realize it is gone. Some users don't know
they should look the disappeared files there...

there is nothing destructive for your datas there
When a file is moved to the trash bin, the user considers it GONE. Not all
users know to look for the files there, not all of them know they can restore
it. Data should not be kept there, so being there means it is deleted. Moving
it out from there is a restoration operation, not a normal arrangement of the
user's data.

[Bug 234029] Re: hebrew FF 3 - status line, hebrew text in reversed site name before label

2008-05-23 Thread Tomer Cohen
John - Ubuntu way is really annony me, and this is not the expeced thing
from oss software. We relly don't want software bugs to be solved in
ubuntu repositories only but in the software itself. It is too bad that
users will report bgs to the WRONG people and this will make the
upstream software less relible.

As for me - I can't follow every user compliance all over the web, but I
do my best to get most of them and to make sure it won't be ignored.

What would you if I didn't publish here the upstream bug? Ignore it, I
guess.

[Bug 234029] Re: hebrew FF 3 - status line, hebrew text in reversed site name before label

2008-05-22 Thread Tomer Cohen
Nadavkav - PLEASE don't report Firefox bugs here, as no one is
intended to read them, and no one will fix it. Instead, please always
report the problems in the right location. In this case it is
mozilla.org.

This bug already reported
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=402240, and hopefully will get
fixed before 3.0.

I think I've opened a bug about that issue in the past, but can't find
it. Anyone, it is really important for us as Hebrew speaking.

Reporter: You may find it useful in the meantime to install the language

Hi Brian,

I had this bug with Ubuntu 7.04 DVD after installing on HD.

Like Lacy, my motherboard was found to be defective so I gave up on
installing Ubuntu on that machine.
I will replace the mobo - but the bug is not expected to appear anymore :-)
Therefore, I can't supply additional information...

Tomer - It should not have happened to you as this bug was fixed a fair
bit ago. Could you please submit a new bug report with information
regarding which release of Ubuntu you are using? Please also subscribe

[Bug 78200] Missing Firefox 2.0.0.1 Hebrew language pack

2007-01-06 Thread Tomer Cohen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox-locale-he-il

Firefox 2.0.0.1 is available in Hebrew, while 2.0.0.0 didn't. As the
package updated to 2.0.0.1 few days ago, Hebrew is still missing and
contain the note This language is unavailable for the current Firefox
version.

If you have not noticed, you can get Firefox 2.0.0.1 in Hebrew from
ftp.mozilla.org. Please fix this issue since we are getting complains
from users (like here http://mozilla.org.il/board/viewtopic.php?p=21543
(Hebrew)) whose want this update to arrive.

As a workaround, it is possible to get the file in XPI from
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.1/linux-i686/xpi/he.xpi
and install the LocaleSwitcher Firefox extension to switch between installed
languages.

Thanks in advance!
