[Bug 379914] [NEW] adsl setup with pppoeconf ist not working properly anymore.
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 9.04, the DSL modem setup isn't working properly. First setup with pppoeconf is running ok, but after the updates of Ubuntu 9.04, pppoeconf suddenly failed and stopped and it's impossible for newbies to restart the Internet access. I got some more infos on that, as i am facing this problem too. I am using winbindd and theres already a postgres user in the domain, so getent passwd postgres does deliver already an accout. The problem now is, that the "winbind" entries does not persist over time (i have to refresh data with "id user" from time to time to get groups and users back, as they get forgotten). I'll going to file a bug for that problem, but in this case, the user does not exists and u get this error. Doing a lookup after the non local user account and redoing the command should success than. [Bug 207791] [NEW] winbind forgets uid/name gid/name mappings in regulary periods
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: winbind Version 3.0.26a-1ubuntu2.3, Gutsy. I am memeber of a domain, wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g are displaying users+groups fine. nssswitch isconfigured lile that: passwd: compat winbind group: compat winbind shadow: compat winbind Using getent passwd "domainuser" does succeed, id "domainuser" too. However, after 10 minutes (this times varies), doing a "ls -l file" does only show the uid of the user/group, the names are non persistent anymore. I than have to do a manual refresh with getent or id (they succeed the first time) and it works again, username + groupnames are there. Thats really annoying because many tools and daemons are relying on persistent users/groups, not only the uids. Don't know why they get lost from time to time, but it happens everytime. Using nscd does not help. My workaround for now is to have a local copy in /etc/passwd, but not shadow, to have a persistent uid/name mapping. smb.conf winbind parameters: winbind cache time = 10 winbind refresh tickets = true winbind enum users = yes winbind enum groups = yes winbind use default domain = Yes winbind offline logon = true Any things i can do, tweaks, changes or something? kind regards Torsten ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- winbind forgets uid/name gid/name mappings in regulary periods https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207791 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 207779] Re: postgresql-8.3 cluster locale should not be utf8
Its not about not using utf8 as default for databases, but not for the locale. If you use e.g. de_DE.UTF8 as locale and issue this command: createdb XX -E LATIN1 you get: encoding LATIN1 does not match server's locale de_DE.UTF-8 DETAIL: The server's LC_CTYPE setting requires encoding UTF8. This is what i mean with prevents, you can't create another database on this cluster with latin1 charset like you suggested. You are forced to utf8, even if you got some old databases which have to use latin1. Using posix or c as locale does not show this problem. I knew how to create a new one (take initdb script, set encoding, locale + path and its ready). But upgrading from existing installations might fail here and behaves not like previous versions (look at debian bug report). Found some similar debian thread: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=472930 Hope this helps. -- postgresql-8.3 cluster locale should not be utf8 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207779 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In case of the user already exists theres another problem, the creation of the group does fail and the packet can not be installed, you have to manually add the group and repair it to succeed. -- postgre not working because user postgres does not exist https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207467 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 180019] Live/Install CD busybox tar -> invalid Tar magic error on a valid Gnu Tar Archiv
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: busybox Hi. I want to clone another ubuntu installation on a new box. I've tared the source tree with gnu tar (tar cpf) and wanted to extract it on the new platform. I've used x86 server install cd to boot up the system, copied the archiv on the new filesystem and want to extract it. md5sums are correct! Using the tar from the livecd/installcd which is a symlink to busybox does result in this error: tar: Invalid tar magic Although its a valid gnu tar Archiv. I have to use a copy of a gnu Tar binary from an existing box (copied it, libraries matched so it runs) and oh magic, i was able to extract the tar archiv without this error. Busybox tar is broken, this should be fixed or gnu tar should be delivered with the livecd. ** Affects: busybox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Live/Install CD busybox tar -> invalid Tar magic error on a valid Gnu Tar Archiv https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/180019 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
