[Bug 1629204] Re: Autofs parameter substitution broken in kernel 4.4.0-38 and 4.4.0-40

2016-10-20 Thread Torsten Casselt
Are you serious? You release a new kernel 4.4.0-45 without the fixes in
4.4.0-44 sitting in -proposed? What do you think -proposed is meant for?
Systems using -proposed to avoid this bug now happily boot the new
kernel facing this bug again.

Could you please get your stuff together and stop breaking
installations?! Why do you think people are using LTS releases?

[Bug 733836] Re: "Error: file not found" when booting, then boots up anyway

2013-10-24 Thread Torsten Casselt
The bug report was opened for natty and it seems that a grub-install
fixes this for everyone and for later releases, too.

This seems to be an issue only after upgrades and is no real problem
because the system continues to boot after a key press.

grub-install also fixes this for me after jumping from 12.04 ( - 12.10 -
13.04 ) - 13.10.

** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Invalid

[Bug 1205452] Re: Eclipse unusable in Kubuntu Saucy (almost immediate JVM segfault)

2013-10-23 Thread Torsten Casselt
Same problem here with 13.10 upgraded since 12.04.

With upgrading eclipse was updated to 3.8 and all my plugins were gone
so I tried to reinstalled it but it crashed.

Checked everything - deleted config, tried different plugins in
different order. Sometimes I had one install successful, but next
install: crash again.

Finally I searched the web – switched GTK2 style to Raleigh. Everything
works – but looks awkward.

This is NO solution because every program using GTK2 looks strange after
that, e.g. thunderbird. I wanted to stick with the eclipse version from
the repositories but maybe I'll try an update to Kepler if it is fixed
there. The look and feel is really bad.

Maybe you can just update the eclipse version in this release. I saw
that 3.8.1 is also planned for trusty, so please address this bug!

I attached a crash report.

[Bug 1167189] Re: boot failure with linux-image-3.2.0-40-generic

2013-04-13 Thread Torsten Casselt
Forgot to mention that it is a 32-bit install, so it affects both 32-
and 64-bit kernels.

No log entry is made in /var/log/syslog when boot failure occurs, so no
trace of what is going wrong.

Using radeon driver.

** Package changed: plymouth (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1167189] Re: boot failure with linux-image-3.2.0-40-generic

2013-04-13 Thread Torsten Casselt
Same for me on a Samsung R60 notebook.

I changed the title (hope it's okay) because it has nothing to do with
neither "quiet splash" in grub nor full encryption.

My boot parameters are empty, except removing plymouth it is a quite
normal install.

Removed plymouth on more than five systems on which 3.2.0-40 works well,
so it is not the point.

The boot failure is not happening with 3.2.0-39! Setting "nomodeset"
fixes the problem, but it is a no-go that a security upgrade on the
kernel breaks the system.

If I kill the system and boot again grub pops up and asks for a kernel
to load as always when you hardreset a system. If you choose 3.2.0-40 it
boots! Then I shutdown and boot again...again black screen. And so on.

Still not in the updates for Kubuntu. Window appears on every boot after
every update of flashplugin-nonfree.

WORKAROUND (to be repeated after every update):

sudo rm /var/lib/update-notifier/user.d/data-downloads-failed-permanently

[Bug 943910] [NEW] WLAN connection unstable

2012-03-01 Thread Torsten Casselt
Public bug reported:

Laptop is a PackardBell EasyNote TK85. I don't know if it is a bug in
NetworkManager or ath9k, but I suppose it's ath9k, I also tried with
wicd, same problem. Problem exists since 11.04, I tried a lot to fix it.
Tested on Ubuntu and Kubuntu.

PROBLEM:

>From time to time the network becomes very slow, often it is like dead.
After a few minutes it gets better again. If I restart networking
sometimes it helps, sometimes not.

Solutions I tried:

- ath9k.conf in modprobe.d with nohwcrypt=1
- networkboot on top in BIOS (according to the internet sometimes it could help)
- compat-wireless via backport
- power management off
- blacklist acer_wmi, because it activates a second wlan-device
- deactivate BT to exclude interference

After all this trouble I decided to file a bug.

[Bug 868970] Re: User should be able to disable Akonaditray when akonadi/nepomuk is not used

2012-02-01 Thread Torsten Casselt
I did this as well but nevertheless akonaditray showed up. This is the common
way to deactivate akonadi and I suppose everyone who commented this bug
disabled akonadi this way since there is no other.
By the way, the problem is not the akonaditray.desktop in ~/.config/autostart
but in /usr/share/autostart, that is why you cannot disable it the "easy" way
and with every update of kde it reappears.

WORKAROUND:

sudo vi /usr/share/autostart/akonaditray.desktop
Change "Exec=akonaditray" to "Exec=".

Works perfect...finally.

#19 also did it for me. It is quite annoying to see Ubuntu shutdown
almost as long as Windows, so please fix this issue! It is not a big
deal changing the filenames, so please update as fast as possible.

[Bug 774203] Re: Brasero makes coasters when using the Burn Directly To Disk option

2011-10-06 Thread Torsten Casselt
I had the same issue, opened a bug report and now I found this one, so I
decided to add the link to mine including a syslog:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/867570

I destroyed several cd's before finding the workaround...for new ubuntu
users it is deterrent that you cannot burn cd's...

[Bug 867570] [NEW] direct burning of data-cd results in unreadable disk

2011-10-04 Thread Torsten Casselt
Public bug reported:

If you burn a data-cd and choose the first option, "burn directly, do
not save on hard disk", (I don't know how it is labeled in English, my
GUI is German) brasero will burn and tell that it did successfully, but
the disk is unreadable.

If you disable and burn with first creating an image, the disk is okay.

I tried it with audio-cd, it is not affected.

Appeared on two laptops, mine being a Toshiba C650D and my girlfriend's
being a Packard Bell TK85. Workaround worked on both laptops.

Please test on other systems to confirm!

Trying to read disk:

/var/log/syslog remains quiet if you wait for automount. Trying "mount
-t iso9660 /dev/dvd /media/test" results in error-message: ISOFS: Unable
to identify CD-ROM format.

Trying "mount -t iso9660 -o loop /dev/dvd /media/test" results in longer
message:

[Bug 609308] Re: No alert when binding keys twice. Unbind not possible.

2011-07-19 Thread Torsten Casselt
Hi Pedro!
Thanks for the response!
I tested the reported bug with fresh settings on 11.04...but it persists. Now I
can get more into detail: It only affects the Mod4-key. I updated the
description, please look at the example.
Being a minor bug the importance can stay low, but you should keep that in
mind...an unbind-feature would be great.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

- if you bind a key-combo twice, you don't get alerted anymore. Older
- versions had that. You can't unbind the keys either.
+ if you bind a key-combo with Mod4 twice, you don't get alerted anymore.
+ Older versions had that. You can't unbind the keys either.
+
+ Example:
+
+ Mod4+W for Firefox is bound. If you bind Mod4+W for Mail, it does that
+ without alerting you that the Combo is used twice. So that's an error
+ ONLY with the Mod4-key. Now, if you want to RESET or DELETE the binding
+ of Mail, you can't do that unless you bind another combo, but you don't
+ always want that.
+
+ Still happens with 11.04!
