[Bug 55812] Re: failed login with encrypted home partition
Problem solved. The fix is somewhere in the changes between the versions in dapper and edgy. I got to and set up pbuilder. I pulled the edgy source, ran pbuilder with a problem, installed the created deb keeping my old config. Reboot, I can log in! I now get this in /var/log/auth.log Aug 10 13:57:35 localhost gdm[4552]: pam_mount: waiting for mount Aug 10 13:57:35 localhost gdm[4552]: pam_mount: clean system authtok (0) How do I tell pbuilder to use a different version on the created deb? So that if there is an update for dapper, it will install over my own version(which will probably have a higher version number?). ** Summary changed: - failed login with encrypted home partition + failed login with encrypted home partition(solved) -- failed login with encrypted home partition(solved) https://launchpad.net/bugs/55812 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 55812] failed login with encrypted home partition
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libpam-mount I'm running the latest Dapper. I have my home partition encrypted and setup to mount when I login via gdm using pam_mount. I originally set this up on Breezy, and it worked great, except for the auto unmount on logout(mainly gconfd's fault taking too long to shutdown). When I boot up, I attempt to log in via gdm using the correct username and password. The disk thrashes as it mounts the encrypted partition, but gdm gives it's standard incorrect username or password display. I can login via console as another user that doesn't use pam_mount on login to confirm that the home partition is mounted and working. When I enter my username and password a second time, I getted logged into gnome. This happens every time I boot my computer. The most suspicious lines from /var/log/auth.log are Aug 9 19:38:00 localhost gdm[4550]: pam_mount: waiting for mount Aug 9 19:38:00 localhost gdm[4550]: pam_mount: error waiting for child This suggests to me that there is some timeout value in effect, although looking through my logs, it varies between 5 and 7 seconds. Also the logs specify on the second attempt that the partition is already mounted after previously (assumingly?) saying it failed. I can't recall when the problem started, probably with the upgrade to Dapper. However I thought I was just typing my password incorrectly, so I took a while to realise something was up and investigate. The following a relevant section from /var/log/auth.log with pam_mount debugging turned on.
