[Bug 186434] [NEW] K3B cannot detect DVD writer on Firewire (Sony DVD RW DRU-710A)

2008-01-27 Thread U Buntu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: k3b

DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 7.10
Kernel: 2.6.22-14-generic
K3B Version: 1.0.4
Device: DRX-710UL (which is the Sony DVD RW DRU-710A drive)
Device firmware: BYX5

This device has both USB and Firewire interface. The bug described below
is ONLY relevant to the Firewire interface. Functions through USB work
as expected. I require the device to work through Firewire.

Status with other programs:

Windows XP work 100% in all software and media
Ubuntu. Gnomebaker, tested writing image to DVD+RW and DVD+R. Works 100%

Symptoms:

StartK3B, drive not detected, even if I manually specify device.
If I insert a disc with data on it, the drive becomes visible in K3B, correctly
identifying the media. Changing the media to empty disc at this point change
status to no media present.

From this point onwards, it it useless even inserting disc with media
present, it will not be mounted in Ubuntu unless I restart the device. I
once inserted a disc and just left it there.

The output of cdrecord -scanbus match the status of k3B i.e. device
present with data disc. Device not present empty media.

Log outputs:
=
/var/log (after inserting empty media):

[Bug 186434] Re: K3B cannot detect DVD writer on Firewire (Sony DVD RW DRU-710A)

2008-01-27 Thread U Buntu
I noticed a incomplete sentence:

I once inserted a disc and just left it there. should read:
After having had a blank disc in there, I once inserted a non-blank disc and
just left it there. After about an hour the drive were suddenly auto mounted by
Ubuntu.

[Bug 154639] ndisgtk not available on Ubuntu 7.10 CD

2007-10-19 Thread U Buntu
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu on a PC with only wireless network available. No
built-in driver was selected.

Help and Support under section Using Windows Wireless Drivers
advised to install ndisgtk using Synaptic Package Manager.

This package is not available until after you have a connection to the
internet repositories, which you won't have unless have this package
installed.

Solution would be to include the ndisgtk and related packages on the
distro CD image.

Any alternate solutions?

[Bug 154142] Re: 800x600 resolution with ATI card on live boot makes install difficult

2007-10-19 Thread U Buntu
This worked for me:

1. Start Restricted Driver Manager
2. Enable the Proprietary drivers for your graphics card. DO NOT RESTART when
prompted to do so
3. Press CtrlAltBkspace

X will restart and use graphics drivers

4. Select required resolution
5. Install Ubuntu and have fun.
