[Bug 327945] Re: mysql-dfsg-5.0

2009-02-22 Thread Uwe L. Korn
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please provide the /var/log/mysql.err and the
/var/log/mysql.log too because in the above files it is not mentioned
what caused the mysql-process to be interrupted.

Does 'aptitude reinstall mysql-server' has any effect?

I think this is still problem because the user doesn't know that he

[Bug 330721] Re: package sun-java6-doc 6-10-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-02-17 Thread Uwe L. Korn
Thank you for reporting this, but this isn't a bug. The installation of
sun-java6-doc is only successful if you have downloaded the
documentation from Sun's website and placed it as root in /tmp. If the
documentation isn't available it cannot be installed and through this it
is valid that the package installation fails since it has not installed
what it should.

Just go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/, download the
documentation for the JDK 6, place it in /tmp, change its owner to root
and run dpkg-reconfigure sun-java6-doc.

[Bug 353109] Re: "Not trusted SSL certificate"-dialog not displayed in the center of the window while sendung a mail

2009-04-03 Thread Uwe L. Korn
Found the real problem:

I used a setup with my Desktop stretched over 2 screens(as one

server uses a SSL certificate that is not issued to the connected URL.
This dialog does not appear in the center of the main Thunderbird
windows, as it would be best. It is displayed on the left hand of the
right part of the display. As I am only using the left screen, it
haven't seen it.

[Bug 351427] [NEW] Add "use max resolution checkbox+functionality" to gnome-display-properties

2009-03-30 Thread Uwe L. Korn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Often people have connected two displays with their laptop where the
second, external one is not always connected and has another aspect
ratio than the internal. Starting up the xorg-server with both connect
it falls back to the highest resolution both have. For example using my
EeePC 901 with a 1024x768 external display connected it falls back to
800x600. Sure, this is a feature which shouldn't be changed in xorg-
server, but I would like to have the max resolution of each screehn, so
that my internal display uses 1024x600 and the external 1024x768. At the
moment I have to run a "xrandr --size 0" after login. The problem hereby
is, that this is not really userfriendly and my gnome-panel gets messed
up while the resolution is at 800x600.

My wish:
 - Add a checkbox with the caption "Use max resolution of connected displays"
 - If this option was checked, directly after the gnome-session was started,
the command "xrandr -s 0"(or an equivalent) should be issued, before any
application in this sessionn is started

[Bug 131110] Re: Thunderbird address book "edit contact" too big for 1280x800, also not resizeable

2009-03-30 Thread Uwe L. Korn
Reopening this, as it still occurs in Intrepid with a resolution of
1024x600.

Thunderbird version: 2.0.0.21+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1

Could it be a problem, that I use the Netbook-Remix?

2009-03-30 Thread Uwe L. Korn
This is the Netbook remix I mean: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UNR

I haven't got any extensions enabled, but I just recogonized that I
could I resize this window at the top border while at the bottom border
the window menu is shown instead.

How to reproduce:
  -> Turn your resolution to a height <= 600
-> Open the adress book in Thunderbird
  -> Edit a contact

[Bug 351427] Re: Add "use max resolution checkbox+functionality" to gnome-display-properties

2009-03-30 Thread Uwe L. Korn
This bug is in some case depending on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/299653, as I want to use the mirrored
display, but gnome-display-properties forces both screen to have the
same size, but I want that the maximum of both is used. Selecting the
wanted resolution in gnome-display-properties is not possible as it
would only work if I would place the part of the desktop displayed by
this monitor besides and not on the internal monitor.

Another possible caption for this wanted checkbox could be "If there I
an external monitor available at startup, use it with its maximum
resolution".

[Bug 353109] [NEW] [Regression] Thunderbird does not send mails anymore (sleeping at "Connected to ..")

2009-04-01 Thread Uwe L. Korn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

When trying to send a mail via thunderbird, independent of the outgoing
server, the progress is still active but nothing happens. The status
text freezes with "Connected to " and the windows stays blocked.

Possibly this problem could be introduced with the last Thunderbird
update since before that it worked. I've only got the Enigmail extension
installed but disableing make no difference. In Thunderbird's error
console only this error is reported:

Your title does not clearly specify your problem. Is your computer

happens again). If your problem is only with X, please provide us your

You mention too in your title 'unexpectedly closes applications' and in
the report very much data about 'yelp', if this problem is not related

[Bug 258201] Re: Pidgin is crashing suddenly with no error message

2008-08-15 Thread Uwe L. Korn
It would be nice if you could provide a backtrace of your program crash,
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace gives you some help on this. For
getting a full backtrace, please install all needed debug symbols, see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash

[Bug 246911] Re: [Wishlist] please add libnspr4-0d to ia32-libs

2008-08-15 Thread Uwe L. Korn
I think it would be better to put some of those dependencies into an own
package because not all of them are needed for such a wide use-case as
those that are already in ia32-libs. Building larger packages slows
downs updates and install often uneeded files.

[Bug 258081] Re: Can't add new wallpapers using gnome interface and Images (like jpeg) are not detected as it.

2008-08-15 Thread Uwe L. Korn
Which version of Ubuntu do you use?
Which desktop do you use? Gnome? KDE? XFCE? or ...?

Can't confirm it for Hardy 8.04.1+ Gnome, everything is shown using
Images instead of ALL Files.

[Bug 258128] Re: double clicking on update-notifier opens multiple update manager windows

2008-08-15 Thread Uwe L. Korn
Where is the problem with opening more than 1 update manager, there is
still a check afterwards that only one of them could execute the update.

You could use one to run the updates und the other to read again about
the changes, e.g. you maybe selected only a part of the packages in step
before and want to inform yourself what has changed in the other
packages, you haven't choosen.

[Bug 258178] Re: Ubuntu doesn't save power on it's own

2008-08-15 Thread Uwe L. Korn
Some of these power saving improvements may influence the performance or
the stability on certain machines, so that are not enabled by default,
if you think a certain suggestion would be able to implement an on all
systems without a loss of stability and performance, file a new bug
considering only this issue and assign it to the specific package which
needs to be changed in future.

[Bug 258376] [NEW] Volume keys at the border of the laptop have no effect but window shows up and bar goes down

2008-08-15 Thread Uwe L. Korn
Public bug reported:

When pressing the -/+-Volume-keys on the border of my laptop, a window
pops up in the middle of the screen and shows me a bar which should
represent the volume of the audio output, pressing the (-)-keys
decreases the bar, but the volume still stays the same, it has no
affect.

I'm using an up-to-date Ubuntu 8.04.

Remark: The mixer-applet in the gnome-panel adjusts the right volume.

[Bug 258376] Re: Volume keys at the border of the laptop have no effect but window shows up and bar goes down

2008-08-15 Thread Uwe L. Korn
Line In of the OSS Mixer was chosen, this has been the default, now it
works.

For future cases it would be better to ensure that there is the
pulseaudio device selected as default after a fresh installation (I do
not remember to have changed this ever, so the OSS Line In was always
the chosen mixer)

[Bug 258178] Re: Ubuntu doesn't save power on it's own

2008-08-16 Thread Uwe L. Korn
For example, the increase of VM writeback time which is always suggested
as first when I use powertop increases performance, too, but if your
system crashes there might be a loss of the data of the last 15 seconds
instead of the last 5 seconds, so

> I don't care about performance anyway.
That's just for you and some others and not all, so I your proposed option
would be nice, maybe a some additional options should be added to
'gnome-power-manager', so that endusers could control this simpler.

Ok, it's the same version as mine, so there might be an other conflict.
Please try to check if an error occurs in ~/.xsession-errors while you
use the filebrowser(e.g. with tail -f ~/.xsession-errors)
