[Bug 1387773] Re: Ubuntu Server 14.10: Missing pxelinux.0 on tftpboot/ltsp/chroot

2014-10-30 Thread Vagrant Cascadian
This was fixed upstream in 5.5.2:

https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/ltsp/ltsp-trunk/revision/2569
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ltsp-upstream/ltsp/ltsp-trunk/revision/2570

Ubuntu needs to both add those patches (or import a newer upstream) and
update the packaging to pull in the appropriate packages.

A couple things to check:

* The version of ltsp in the chroot is the correct version (you need to
  have the ppa packages there as well). The command ltsp-info should
  tell you.

* The appropriate packages are in the chroot (presuming the names are
  the same as on Debian):
  ltsp-chroot apt-get install pxelinux syslinux-common

 Ltsp 5.5.2 package from ppa no resolve the problem. Correct?

 Even without arguments, in this case, $args empty, bash/sh return 1 as
 total arguments in $# variable, because of the double quotes used in
 screen_session script.

Wouldn't a viable option be:

That seems more meaningful than checking the number of arguments

Maybe the size reporting issues go back that far...

Works for me using http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise-
proposed/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/netboot.tar.gz.
current appears, as best I can tell, to be a symlink to

It deduplicates very quickly.

Using the netboot images from precise still stall on the deduplication
step.

Though that image is dated from May 20th, so perhaps is to old to

Not really using lucid at all anymore, but can fairly easily test it if

[Bug 1093865] [NEW] pithos needs to be updated in precise

2012-12-26 Thread Vagrant Cascadian
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release:12.04

Package: pithos
Version: 0.3.14-1

Pandora broke compatibility with pithos, and pithos presents a warning
when attempting to log in:

  Pithos Upgrade Required

  Pithos needs to be updated for compatibility with Pandora's latest
changes.

Attached is a screenshot demonstrating the issue.

Rebuilding and installing the package from the version in quantal (0.3.17-1)
fixes the issue.

Pianobar may be similarly affected, as they've both been affected by
pandora API changes in the past.

2012-12-26 Thread Vagrant Cascadian
[Impact]

 * Pithos fails to allow users to log in to Pandora, and has no useful
functionality without logging in.

[Test Case]

 * Install pithos 0.3.14-1
 * Run it
 * Provide login credentials
 * Attempt to log in

[Regression Potential]

 * I know of no services running older Pandora APIs, so there's nothing
to connect with using the old API, thus no regression potential, really.

You can create an empty file to override it:

  sudo mkdir -p /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ldm/rc.d/
  sudo touch /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/ldm/rc.d/X51-opengl
  sudo ltsp-update-image

Adjust i386 for amd64 if you're using amd64 clients.

Note that if it is ever fixed properly, you'll want to remove this empty
file.

[Bug 1067934] [NEW] spends 10+ minutes deduplicating Package lists

2012-10-17 Thread Vagrant Cascadian
Public bug reported:

At some point after Lucid's initial release, the ubuntu alternate
installer seems to stall for a very long time (10+ minutes) before the
partitioning menu comes up. I don't think it was happening for the first
year or so after Lucid's release, but I'm not real clear on when it
started happening (it was only recently brought to my attention).

I think it is happening in /usr/lib/debian-installer/net-retriever's
deduplicate function...
When it is stalled out, it keeps adding content to
/tmp/net-retriever--deduplicate/, eventually it moves on, but it takes
forever. The speed of the install machine doesn't appear to matter much.
There's nothing obvious in the log as to why it's stalling at that point...

I thought it might be some issue with our preseeding, but it appears to
happen on an install without preseeding as well.

Newer versions of Ubuntu (at least Xubuntu 12.04) don't seem to
experience this problem, as far as I can tell.

We're using the netboot installer, apparently last updated on
2011-04-29:

2011-04-29 03:32:27-07:00 checking for updates:
http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/netboot.tar.gz
2011-04-29 03:33:13-07:00 updated:
/var/lib/tftpboot/ubuntu-installer/lucid.i386.netboot.tar.gz

though as far as i can tell, that file hasn't been updated on the
mirrors since 2010-04-25.

[Bug 218231] Re: ltspfs in hardy doesnt work with LDM_DIRECTX=True set in lts.conf

2008-04-16 Thread Vagrant Cascadian
in addition to *_fstab_entry, it will need to be fixed in
/usr/share/ldm/rc.d/S10-delayed-mounter

[Bug 134865] Re: x11-common segfaults in ltsp chroot in xen dom0

2008-03-17 Thread Vagrant Cascadian
i think the plugin is a good idea, although simplify the grep a little:

if [ -n $(dpkg -l libc6-xen | egrep ^ii) ]; then
XEN_PACKAGES=$XEN_PACKAGES libc6-xen
...
if [ -n $XEN_PACKAGES ] ; then
   chroot  apt-get install $XEN_PACKAGES
fi

and instead of installing directly, you should be able to add libc6-xen
to the INCLUDES variable, which then debootstrap will install it:

if [ -n $INCLUDES ]; then
  INCLUDES=libc6-xen
else
  INCLUDES=$INCLUDES,libc6-xen
fi

although i guess, since it's in universe, it won't be available to
debootstrap... will probably work in debian though :)

[Bug 132397] Re: [Gutsy] Proxy not working with ltsp-build-client

2008-02-11 Thread Vagrant Cascadian
i think it would be risky to copy all apt configuration files into the
chroot environment. some programs drop files into /etc/apt/apt.conf.d
that may behave undesireably if not installed in the chroot.

there are so many possible settings in /etc/apt/apt.conf and
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/* ... there's a moderate possibility you might pull
something undesired into the chroot environment.

for grabbing the proxy setting, we could do something like:

  http_proxy=$(apt-config dump | egrep Acquire::http::Proxy | sed -e
's,^Acquire::http::Proxy ,,g' | tr ';' ' ')

and if http_proxy is set, dump it into the chroot's /etc/apt/apt.conf.d
/proxy-guess-ltsp near the end of the install.

something like that, more or less...

  vagrant

[Bug 188223] Re: CHROOT will not upgrade

2008-02-01 Thread Vagrant Cascadian
oh, it can be worked around by moving /opt/ltsp/*/boot/nbi.img-* to
somewhere else before upgrading kernels.

[Bug 113801] Re: ltsp-build-client insists on messing with /opt

2007-05-11 Thread Vagrant Cascadian
i tracked down the problem, it's in ltsp-update-sshkeys.

it hard-codes /opt/ltsp , but should be modified to use the $BASE
variable.

[Bug 112778] 7.04 live cd missing task bars

2007-05-06 Thread Vagrant Cascadian
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xubuntu-default-settings

when using the xubuntu-7.04-desktop-i386.iso as a live CD, upon initial
boot, the task bar at the top and bottom do not show up, only the
desktop icons.

there doesn't appear to be any way to log out.

after killing the x server with ctrl-alt-backspace, and letting gdm
autologin, the task bars appear fine.

tested this on two different machines.
