[Bug 446919] Re: Mouse stalls, does not respond to click, keyboard does not respond to some keys
Ok I came to conclusion that this is hardware problem. My touchpad dies from time to time on my laptop and during those times it acts up for 2-3 months and then randomly fixes it self (the hardware). I have done further investigation but I bet it has to do with drivers being confused by the bad hardware. Will mark it as invalid. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- Mouse stalls, does not respond to click, keyboard does not respond to some keys https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/446919 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 446919] [NEW] Mouse stalls, does not respond to click, keyboard does not respond to some keys
Public bug reported: This is a weird one: I have a laptop running on Intel Duo Core P9500 w Nvidia 9500GT 4GB Ram. The Computer is SAGER2096 (if anyone interested). Now the problem sometimes after I login my mouse and keyboard will act strange: - Mouse can move but will not allow to click (cursor will be appear as an I-beam) - Sometimes clicking will actually produce a random minimize/restore event on the current window (even though the mouse moves correctly on the screen) - During that time they keyboard will lock some of the keys (these are the Shift, the Esc, and I think arrow buttons as well), other keys work as normal. There are no errors reported in any of the log files. The only thing I can see is that the Xorg will unload the evdev module and all the devices. The only way to solve it is to kill X and login again. However sometimes that also backfires and after a while I end up with the same situation. Further note: a day or two before this started one of my touchpad buttons died (Does not work on Ubuntu or Windows) If anyone knows how to disable the those buttons I will try to see if the bug is reproducible. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Mouse stalls, does not respond to click, keyboard does not respond to some keys https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/446919 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 270798] Re: lockups with default (hpet) clocksource on 2.6.27-2-generic 64-bit
Apparently I was able to reproduce this bug in Jaunty using kernel: Linux Valsar 2.6.29-020629-generic #020629 SMP Tue Mar 24 11:23:53 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux As well: nVidia GF 9600m GT Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P9500 @ 2.53GHz This happens only when switching sides of the compiz-fusion cube. Also the keyboard locks up (most of the time). -- lockups with default (hpet) clocksource on 2.6.27-2-generic 64-bit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/270798 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Possibly but what if the user needs to switch application during the process or needs to use the mouse. [Bug 15495] Re: Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is
Box is a too generic word that means almost anything and new users might have trouble understanding the concept of Box this items... or Box files and folders. Package is reserved for deb files (which are still archives). I wonder if users will be able to distinguish package and archives differently. For example: when you double click a package: an installer pops up, while when you double click and archive - the archive manager opens it to show its contents. -- Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/15495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 387573] Re: Drop-down calendar does not close unless you click on it
I have a simpler idea: 1. If the user Clicks on the calendar it should mimic the current behavior (as in stay open until clicked again). 2. If the user hovers-over the calendar it should mimic the debated behavior (as in stay open unless hover-out/click out) Face it when you click on the calendar you do want it to show, which means that you would like to work/interact with it for longer than few seconds. However when you hover over it, you want to have a quick glance and are not interested in having to change stuff on it. -- Drop-down calendar does not close unless you click on it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/387573 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 15495] Re: Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is
I agree with Franck. A tar file is an *archive* but its not a compress file. So by renaming all Create Archive (the fits all scenario) to compress files will cause confusion on how to create tar files. Perhaps a joined venture such as Compress/Archive will be much appropriate in the gnome menu. Here is what I propose: Proposed solution: * In context menu rename Create Archive to Compress/Archive * The subsequent dialog box should be re-titled to read: Create Compressed File/Archive * The input box on the dialog box should be re-labelled from 'Archive' to 'Filename' * Change Archive Manager to Archive Manager on the Applications menu (with tooltip Create and edit compressed files/Archives) I believe the name Archive Manager should remain, just like people are used to WinZip, WinRaR, 7-Zip. None of the commercial/popular windows software have Compress in their name and in fact they are even more confusing than Archive Manager -- Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/15495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 387573] Re: Drop-down calendar does not close unless you click on it
I would like to propose further enchantments: 1. Open the calendar on prolonged hover over (User X hovers on the calendar for 5 sec or so and the calendar opens, it closes when the user click away or hover out) 2. Integrate (or rather figure how to) integrate with Thunderbird. Now in all fairness #2 might not belong here, but I have it for a suggestion. Additionally Ubuntu Developers might want to do the same schema for the volume manager (it currently stays open) -- Drop-down calendar does not close unless you click on it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/387573 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 279406] Re: Shut Down dialog doesn't open in the foreground
I can confirm this. I use compiz all the time and oddly enough this happens only once in a while. Also I get the correct dialog. [Bug 15495] Re: Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is
@Stuart: Changing the name of the application is pointless and rather silly. Most other archive managers have different names [WinZip, WinRaR, 7Zip]. Changing the menu entry to as I have proposed earlier might seem more appropriate (I don't think user will care the name of the application or that changing it will make it any better). And most users don't create empty archives, they right click the file and compress it - which eliminates the need to even know the name of the archiver. Think about it: when was the last time when you needed to create an empty archive by launching the application? - Proposition: * In context menu rename Create Archive to Compress/Archive * The subsequent dialog box should be re-titled to read: Create Compressed File/Archive * The input box on the dialog box should be re-labelled from 'Archive' to 'Filename' * Change Archive Manager to Archive Manager on the Applications menu (with tooltip Create and edit compressed files/Archives) -- Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/15495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 346691] Re: jaunty kernel 2.6.28-11 kernel update renders the system un-usable.
I was also a victim of this bug, in which I experienced the following: 1. My applications started receiving segfaults. I tried to strace them and found that the segfaults were mostly due to problems with files (corrupted files) 2. Then my administrative applications started segfaulting and after that my kernel wouldn't boot as a results in a heavily corrupted file system. I ran fsck.ext3 on my boot partition and all the files were corrupted. To solve: Reinstalled ubuntu from the live CD and updated the kernel to the 2.6.29-020629. So far I have had no problem. I am a little surprised that my brother who has a 32 bit system does not have this problem with the 2.6.28-11 kernel and as it seams that only 64bit systems are affected. Can anyone with 32 bit system confirm this. I also believe that it has to do with how files are written/updated as many of the errors that fsck reported were: 1. Inode referenced in future data 2. Inode reference count too high 3. Unattached Inodes Another note is that none of my boot files (as my grub is on its own partition) were corrupted.
