[Bug 423534] [NEW] Select sound output from gnome-volume-control-applet menu

2009-09-02 Thread Viktor Petrov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

This is not a bug. Set it please to wishlist.

I've made some changes in gnome-media package for ease of switching the
sound output in cases where you have more than one sound output. Now
there is sub-menu in the gnome-volume-control-applet menu where you can
choose the current sound output. This is very useful if you have a
bluetooth headset. Menu will show up only when there is more than one
audio output devices.

I've contacted gnome-media maintainer Marc-André Lureau. He recommended me to
register it as a bug on bugzilla.gnome.org, which i did.
Bug:#593752
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=593752

Also he said that this will not be in the 2.28 because it is in UI/string
freeze.
Maybe it is possible to get it into Ubuntu karmic?

Attached patch file with changes made. Just get gnome-media source
package, drop patch into package's debian/pathces directory and build
it.

Here you can see how it looks in action:
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/225762/select-sink-submenu-screenshot.png

Here you can take a ready-compiled packages for karmic:

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/225762/gnome-media/gnome-media_2.27.90-0ubuntu1%7Eviks1_i386.deb

[Bug 420999] Re: [karmic] Network manager add DNS servers only once for mobile broadband

2009-08-29 Thread Viktor Petrov
Same situation here.

If i'm connecting my wireless connection before broadband connection, DNS is
always set/replaced with broadband connection's nameservers. Disconnecting
broadband restores wireless connection's nameservers.
If i disable wireless when broadband connection is active, broadband works
anyway, but disconnecting restores wirless connection's nameservers. After that
reconnecting broadband always works correctly.

If i disable wireless while broadband is not connected, broadband
connection works only for first time setting nameservers. For second
time and so on nameservers is not set anyore.

[Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing ( Huawei E220 )

2009-08-19 Thread Viktor Petrov
Updated network-manager & modemmanager as in post #40.
Now i can connect using my HP un2400 Mobile Broadband Module.

There is only one problem i noticed: DNS nameservers received by
NetworkManager is not added to resolv.conf. See attached debug logs. In
the NetworkManager debug log there is messages showing DNS info is
received by NetworkManager. Must i fill new bugreport on it?

Still no luck with my mobile phone SonyErricson connected through USB
cable. I think i must fill separate bug report on it, because symptoms
are little different.

[Bug 407516] [NEW] Attempts to open serial port created by drivers qcserial & usbserial fails

2009-07-31 Thread Viktor Petrov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.31-4-generic

Attempts to open serial port created by drivers qcserial & usbserial fails with
dmesg message:
qcserial ttyUSB0: usb_serial_generic_open - failed resubmitting read urb, error
-22

---
Release: 9.10, Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Kernel: 2.6.31-4-generic

System:
HP Compaq Mini 701en
built-in HP un2400 Mobile Broadband Module (based on Qualcomm Gobi chipset)
Hardware ID's:
#1 03f0:201d Hewlett-Packard (While firmware is not loaded)
#2 03f0:1f1d Hewlett-Packard (Same device with firmware loaded)

What i have done:
---
1) Loaded kernel module "hp-wmi". Device with id #1 apears. (as expected)
2) Loaded kernel module "qcserial". Driver founds device and brings up serial
port /dev/ttyUSB0. (as expected)

dmesg output:
---
usb 1-6: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
usb 1-6: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
qcserial 1-6:1.2: Qualcomm USB modem converter detected
usb 1-6: Qualcomm USB modem converter now attached to ttyUSB0

3) Trying to load firmware into serial port /dev/ttyUSB0 results in error. Port
can't be opened!
Firmware loader used: http://www.codon.org.uk/~mjg59/gobi_loader

dmesg output:
---
qcserial ttyUSB0: usb_serial_generic_open - failed resubmitting read urb, error
-22

4) Recompiled usbserial kernel module with patch applied (using
2.6.31-4-generic):
http://www.kernel.org/diff/diffview.cgi?file=%2Fpub%2Flinux%2Fkernel%2Fv2.6%2Fsnapshots%2Fpatch-2.6.31-rc4-git3.bz2;z=142

5) Recompiled qcserial kernel module with patch applied: (using
2.6.31-4-generic. Another issue, see patch.)
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg20203.html

6) After restart i can use serial port created by qcserial driver & download
firmware to device. (as expected)
7) After firmware is loaded, new device with id #2 apears (old device id #1 is
replaced with id #2). (as expected)
8) qcserial driver registers new device as serial port & network-manager picks
it up as modem device. (as expected)
9) All done, i can connect to internet using my 3G Mobile Broadband Modem.

[Bug 37239] Re: VPN connection should alter /etc/resolv.conf

2007-10-25 Thread Viktor Petrov
On Gutsy when i connect through a PPTP to remote network and USEPEERDNS is
unselected, /etc/resolv.conf gets wiped out.
This issue exists in Feisty and in Gutsy too.
I have made patch to correct this by simply not to update resolv.conf (leave
intact) when there is no name servers returned by DHCP.
Now PPTP is working for me correctly (as i expect).
