[Bug 1938998] Re: [vmwgfx] Update to mesa and xorg-server causes Cinnamon desktop to not render properly

2022-01-10 Thread Vinay Sajip
Has this (now confirmed) problem been identified and fixed, and if so,
which versions of the package(s) contain the fix? With this information,
one could update to the version containing the fix and seeing if the
system actually works as expected. I now generally turn off the updates
for these packages when the update manager suggests them, as I don't
want to interrupt my workflow by having to restore from backup if the
fix isn't in there.

[Bug 1950778] Re: Ubuntu 20.04.3 generates IO error message during FIO stress.

2022-01-07 Thread Vinay HM
Hi Michael/Jeff,

Analysis which we found,
1.Only IO read operation generate errors and No errors was found with IO WRITE
that to only on the host side communication.
Ubuntu Host with QL4000 NIC < - > Switch Ethernet Port : issue is seen.
Switch < - > Powerstore target : No issue is seen.

2.Issue is observed on Host side communication which is having a problem
with 32gig link speed of the Powerstore. No issue is seen with 16gig
link.

3. OS logs get flooded with error messages of qedf driver but the data
that is read from Target is not corrupted which is read back without
corruption. There is no functionality loss.

** Tags added: apport-collected ulyssa

** Description changed:

On a VMWare Workstation VM running Linux Mint 20.1 (64-bit) with
Cinnamon 4.8.6 or Linux Mint 20.2 (64-bit) with Cinnamon 5.0.5,
upgrading to a specific mesa and xorg-server version, followed by a
system restart, led to the Cinnamon desktop not rendering correctly,
such that the desktop was unusable. The rendering problem is that icons
and menus are displayed as grey rectangles and it's not possible to see
  what they are.

I believe the problem is in one of these packages:

  * mesa 21.0.3-0ubuntu0.2-20.04.1
  * xorg-server 2:1.20.11-1ubuntu1-20.04.2

- Restoring the system from backup, and then upgrading but omitting the
- above two updates and restarting, the system behaves as expected. It's
- not immediately clear which of these packages is causing the problem.

[Bug 1938998] [NEW] Update to mesa and xorg-server causes Cinnamon desktop to not render properly

[Bug 1929454] Re: Bios measurements do not contain measurements for the kernel binary and kernel signer cert.

2021-05-24 Thread VINAY RAJESH
Hi Steve,

What about the scenario where the signers are different for kernel and
grub? For example, if the kernel is signed using a self signed cert and
loaded using MOK.

I am trying to do that right now but the kernel fails to load when
signed with a MOK key.

[Bug 1929454] [NEW] Bios measurements do not contain measurements for the kernel binary and kernel signer cert.

2021-05-24 Thread VINAY RAJESH
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 20.04, the binary_bios_measurements do NOT contain the
measurements for the kernel binary and the kernel signer cert that is
typically measured by the shim.

This is behavior is NOT consistent with Ubuntu 18.04 where the
measurements are present.

Attaching the measurements from Ubuntu 20.04 for reference.

[Bug 1896288] [NEW] Event hash and digest mismatch for event logged by shim - Binary BIOS Measurements

2020-09-18 Thread VINAY RAJESH

In the binary bios measurements, the hash of the event measured by shim
does not match the event digest in the measurements. This is due to an
extra zero byte in the event that is not accounted for in the data that
is measured to the PCR.

[Bug 1838796] Re: TPM event log does not contain events measured after ExitBootServices

2020-02-20 Thread VINAY RAJESH
Hi Marcelo,

I am facing the same issue as I was with the .deb packages. When I run
"sudo apt install Linux-azure-edge" and reboot, the kernel does not
boot.

I am able to boot into the Linux 5.3.040-generic kernel but not the
azure edge kernel.

That said, I tried it on both the physical machine and Hyper v with
secure boot enabled. The kernel boots fine on Hyper V but not on the
physical machine.

Did you get a chance to test it on a physical machine?

[Bug 1838796] Re: TPM event log does not contain events measured after ExitBootServices

2020-02-19 Thread VINAY RAJESH
Hi Marcelo,

I am trying to load the kernel on an x86_64 physical machine. Here is
how I installed the .deb pkg on the machine.

"sudo dpkg -i linux-
modules-4.15.0-1066-azure_4.15.0-1066.71+lp1838796.2_amd64.deb"

"sudo dpkg -i linux-image-
unsigned-4.15.0-1066-azure_4.15.0-1066.71+lp1838796.2_amd64.deb"

I rebooted the system after this and tried to select the kernel from the
grub menu.

I am not sure what I am missing.

Here is the output of the os-release file on the machine.

Hi Marcelo,

I tried to validate the test kernel provided by you in comment 23. I am not
able to load the kernel. When I select the kernel from the grub menu, the
loading gets stuck at "Loading initial ramdisk".

I tried it with secure boot disabled too, just to be sure we are not
making any mistakes with the signing part.

I am not sure if I am missing something here. Can you please help
resolve this?

2. We were able to validate that there were duplicate entries in the TCG
logs with the test kernel and extending those entries in the PCR matched
the TCG log PCR values. But the same is not true for the baseline
Ubuntu, we did not see duplicate values in the baseline Ubuntu
measurements. Does the test kernel try to fix the PCR7 mismatch too and
also introduces a regression because of duplicate entries?

3. We also noticed that there are no bios measurements exposed by the
kernel when secure boot is turned off. Is it possible to get bios
measurements in that scenario, indicating that secure boot is turned
off?

[Bug 1838796] Re: TPM event log does not contain events measured after ExitBootServices

2020-01-03 Thread VINAY RAJESH
Hi Chris,

Can you please point me to the parser tool that you used to parse the
binary_bios_measurements? We can try that tool at our end to see if the
our tool has a bug.

[Bug 1838796] Re: TPM event log does not contain events measured after ExitBootServices

2019-11-21 Thread VINAY RAJESH
I have verified the kernel image provided above. The PCR5 values in the
TCG logs and in the TPM match. I have also verified that the
ExitBootServices event is present in the binary_bios_measurements.
However, I see there is a mismatch for PCR4 and PCR7 between the TCG
logs and the TPM values. I am not sure if that is expected or is it
something to be concerned about.

PCR4 logs the EFI Service Application events. Attaching screenshots of
the PCR values and PCR4 log events for your reference.

[Bug 1851652] [NEW] Unable to control display brightness

2019-11-07 Thread Vinay Vasista
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I had hard rebooted my laptop after I found out that Ubuntu 18.04 was
not responding to login credentials. But this reboot was not successful
for some reason and I saw a few error messages. So I rebooted in
recovery mode, and finally after recovery was done, I selected continue
to normal boot. Since then, I'm not able to control the brightness of my
screen. Please let me know what additional information or log files you
would need to figure out the cause, and solve this problem for me.

[Bug 1297286] Re: Wireless connection keeps disconnecting

2015-05-01 Thread vinay dwivedi
Ok, so as I said in my previous comment, I have tested the performance
of wifi in Ubuntu 14.04 in 3-4 laptops in last 1 week.

After fresh installation, wifi keeps on dropping. Then I applied tlue's
workaround on all of them which was:
echo options rtl8723be fwlps=N ips=N | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf

Now after doing this, the wifi stabilizes but after long usage (2-4
hours continuously) it drops for 5-20 seconds and then either comes
back automatically or needs a reconnect (Reboot is not required to
reconnect in this case).

So after digging about incompatibility related to msi in rtl8723be, I added one
extra parameter in above command:
echo options rtl8723be fwlps=N ips=N msi=1 | sudo tee
/etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723be.conf

After using for 4-5 hours I didn't see a drop. Still I am keeping
fingers crossed.

[Bug 1297286] Re: Wireless connection keeps disconnecting

2015-04-18 Thread vinay dwivedi
I have also tried upgrading from 3.13 to 3.18 kernel. It did not solve
the problem.

After going through a lot of articles, today saw this bug, and the
workaround given in tlue's post.

I have tried it now. Wifi is up from last 22 minutes. I will update here
after using it for sometime.

[Bug 63222] Re: Inconsistency detected by ld.so

2014-08-27 Thread vinay bhargav
Hi, I'm facing similar problem on 12.04, 64 bit system while starting
firefox. Exact error message -

Inconsistency detected by ld.so: ../sysdeps/x86_64/dl-machine.h: 460:
elf_machine_rela_relative: Assertion `((reloc-r_info)  0x) ==
8' failed!

Recently my firefox started crashing just after waking up from suspend.
Problem could be with suspend.

I usually get refresh rate error message while waking up from suspend.
But it did not cause any real problem until now. I don't know what
exactly is the problem. I'm trying to find a fix. I'll post here if
something works :)
