I don't personally need a backport, but that could perhaps be useful for LTS users, i don't know Ubuntu policy about that. Dennis, if you did modprobe psmouse, you didn't really fix the problem, you just force the kernel to load the generic driver instead. I tried with kernel 3.18 from kernel.org, still doesn't work (although the trackpoint is not recognized).
