[Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher

2011-12-20 Thread Vitor Lamas Gatti
Sorry to ask if this is kinda rude, but how much money/resources do you
(Ubuntu devs) need to make this bug report be changed from Won't Fix to
at least Wishlist?

I understand that this new interface called Unity wants to be used in
tablets, TVs, etc as a global menu and stuff, but never forget that this
is, initially, a Desktop UI, and Desktops are well-known for
customization in big or small screens.

The Android default dock/launcher is not customizable. I understand why:
it's a touch and small interface. This is not the case in Unity, you
know that.

Just make it customizable already! And please, not compiz dependant.
Unity 2D and 3D are two different softwares, and they should not be like
that. Can't you realize that making two Unities is just making the
work a lot harder?

Compiz is STILL buggy and resources-eater. And Unity 2D is not
customizable AT ALL.

I want to understand this, please :/

2011-11-01 Thread Vitor Lamas Gatti
Moving the launcher to the bottom would be a great feature for monitors
that are not widescreen.

My monitor, for example, is a 17 4:3. I lose precious horizontal space
because of that big vertical sidebar.

I'm sure lots of people still use 4:3 monitors. The world is not all
about laptops and tablets... not yet.

[Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher

2011-10-28 Thread Vitor Lamas Gatti
Instead of complaining, please find a constructive way to engage, or
leave.

... I'm sorry, but how many more constructive opinions are needed to you
understand what power users, the ones that made Ubuntu popular
(recommending to friends, etc) really want?

People are already porting Launcher's behavior to go to the bottom (
http://www.webupd8.org/2011/10/how-to-move-unity-launcher-to-bottom-
of.html ), why this can't just be official?

This kind of reaction reminds me when SONY removed Linux support from
all PS3s. The same thing is happening: nobody will listen users and we
will be left trying to hack and port things to what we want (just what
happened to the PS3).

Yes, the indicator at the taskbar also turns blue. I'm using Pidgin.

But... I guess that's not the point. Any software sending the Urgent

An option should be provided under Unity's preferences.

[Bug 776745] [NEW] Unity's sidebar 'Urgent' icon animation not constant

2011-05-03 Thread Vitor Lamas Gatti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Let me explain:
- You are using an IM client;
- You are doing something else;
- You receive a new IM message;
- The system sends a 'urgent' notification to the message window.
- In Unity's sidebar, it works in a way that the program icon pulses/wiggles
*only once* when this happens;
- *Tiny triangles* at the left part of the icon become blue.

That's hard to notice, specially when you are not looking at the screen
when the notification occurred.

Like in any dock application, or Mac's dock, the icon keeps
pulsing/wiggling/jumping until you click it.
I'd like to have that option in Unity's interface.

I searched CompizConfig Settings Manager and gconf-editor, but didn't
find anything useful to change the behavior to what I want.

I've tried to post this into brainstorm, but it was denied for not being an
idea, so I'm trying here.
Thanks.

[Bug 351305] Re: Ubuntu freezes when it loses wireless signal (also very weak signal)

2009-08-13 Thread Vitor Lamas Gatti
Thanks for your reply, AceLan Kao.

I tried to install this package linux-backports-modules-jaunty, but it
didn't work. Probably because I already did a lot of changes here
(removing modules, installing and purging ndiswrapper, etc). I don't
have time to format my machine now, but when I have time, I will do it
to test.

BUT, my brother did a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04 on his computer and
Ubuntu was freezing with this same bug. I said to him to install this
linux-backports-modules-jaunty and it seems that it resolved his
problem. No freezing anymore.

Also, he had to install this package on his Toshiba netbook to have
wireless working.

It seems this package is in development, but it would be very nice if a
stable version of it can be release with Ubuntu 9.10, so a lot of people
won't have this problem anymore.

This bug is fixed, but not yet officially fixed.

Thanks for the help!

[Bug 351305] Re: Ubuntu freezes when it loses wireless signal (also very weak signal)

2009-07-05 Thread Vitor Lamas Gatti
Hi AcenLan Kao, thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, this bug is still present in Ubuntu 9.04.

Also, I don't know what is NetworkManager doing, but with some USB WiFi cards
(not all of them), using Linux's default driver, when I connect to anything
(ad-hoc or infrastructure), it seems that it makes the interface go down.
It only appears in ifconfig -a, and sudo ifconfig wlan up returns access
denied.

And, with that, when I disconnect, Ubuntu freezes.

[Bug 351305] [NEW] Ubuntu freezes when it loses wireless signal (also very weak signal)

2009-03-29 Thread Vitor Lamas Gatti
Public bug reported:

My router is a Linksys WRT54G v8 (with official firmware, not DD-WRT) and my
wireless card is an Atheros 5008.
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10.

It freezes when it loses wireless signal.
I'm not using encryption. Only MAC Filter.

Also, I'm getting very weak wireless signal. Windows XP gets 50~60%. It doesn't
freeze in XP.
Ubuntu 8.10 gets 15~30%.

Another note: I have another computer that is 30cm away from the router. And
the wireless (RTL-8185) signal power? 50%. My luck that I use this wi-fi card
for another purposes (it's connected with cable).
Windows XP gets 100%. That's unacceptable...

The same problem occurs with Ubuntu 9.04 Beta. I don't know either if
this bug only affects Ubuntu (probably yes). Gonna test other distros
when I have time.

I also have another case that a friend of mine tried to install Ubuntu
on his laptop, but the wireless signal was so weak (comparing to Windows
Vista Starter), that he gave up on Ubuntu (and Linux).

I'm trying to use ndiswrapper with Windows XP drivers in this Atheros
5008. The signal boosted like 5% and the freezing seemed to stop (I'm
not sure yet). Well, I didn't want to use ndiswrapper. It's a lot easier
for everybody to use Ubuntu's default configuration.

Please, fix this annoying bug ASAP.
Thanks for any help.

Paul Perkins, this bug has already been fixed in the latest version of

I don't know and I don't understand why, but it's not.

If you want an official patch, you'll have to wait. If you don't care about

for those eager to get final NM 0.7, you can get an intrepid build for

I couldn't manage to compile the source code by myself (I don't have too

warn the package maintainer at Ubuntu's repositories to fix this,

Seriously, I can't believe that this annoying bug won't be fixed. 18
days have passed since Ubuntu 8.10 was released, and nothing was done.
Ok, you can configure everything in /etc/networks/interfaces, but where
is the user-friendly on that?

Somebody gave importance Medium. Medium? This is internet configuration!
Configure a PPPoE connection and choice to connect automatically every boot: it
won't!
Internet connection is important, you know!!

And nobody is going to fix that... maybe Ubuntu 9.04 also comes with this damn
bug.
I can't believe that. If it was little bug with Ekiga, with Gimp, no problem,
but with Internet and Network Configuration, THIS is a BIG problem!!!

I found that you have to delete all the auto entries, then select new
 connection,
give it a name and select system tab.
Then go to the IPV4 tab and
manually enter all the IP, gateway, DNS etc and click OK
Once you reboot it's all there and the LAN connects on login.

I've already tried that some days ago, but Auto eth0 keeps coming
back, and Enabled.

[Bug 157018] audacious does not show track details

2007-10-25 Thread Vitor Lamas Gatti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: audacious

Audacious does not show Track Details IF the track is opened by Nautilus
(didn't tested with another, like KDE, etc).
BUT, if the track is opened by Audacious itself, then yes, it shows Track
Details (if double-click or press letter i)

This didn't happen in Ubuntu 7.04, but it is now in 7.10.
I think it is a bug from Nautilus scripts, or maybe from Audacious package.
I tried to open Audacious by terminal, but no error has been shown.

Thanks in advance.

** Affects: audacious (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 120445] Re: Firestarter firewall continuously crashes no matter which desktop or screen it's on.

2007-10-25 Thread Vitor Lamas Gatti
Same bug here.
Using Ubuntu 7.10 full-updated and firestarter simply crashes itself, with
memory error (segmentation fault).
I didn't check that if I don't open Active Connections it doesn't crash, but I
think this is true.

Well, beta-test have already passed and this bug continues...
Maybe checking the code on the event when clicking the button Active
Connections and comparing with an older version (for Ubuntu 7.04, ie) to see
if there isn't some mistakes?

Strange bug...

[Bug 99684] Re: Backspace key not ignored rather than displaying previous url in Firefox 2.0.0.3

2007-04-26 Thread Vitor Lamas Gatti
Alexander,

Because... I think a lot of people use this feature.
For me, at least, is very useful when I want to check multiple links, just
clicking on them and going back.
And, if the resolution for this problem is so simple... why no implement in
Ubuntu?

:)

2007-04-24 Thread Vitor Lamas Gatti
Please Ubuntu Developers, fix that bug.
It is very simple to fix and everybody will be happy :D

Do that:
Type “about:config” in the address bar of Firefox and press Enter.
'Filter' for ‘browser.backspace_action’ and change its value to 0 (zero).
