[Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher
Sorry to ask if this is kinda rude, but how much money/resources do you (Ubuntu devs) need to make this bug report be changed from Won't Fix to at least Wishlist? I understand that this new interface called Unity wants to be used in tablets, TVs, etc as a global menu and stuff, but never forget that this is, initially, a Desktop UI, and Desktops are well-known for customization in big or small screens. The Android default dock/launcher is not customizable. I understand why: it's a touch and small interface. This is not the case in Unity, you know that. Just make it customizable already! And please, not compiz dependant. Unity 2D and 3D are two different softwares, and they should not be like that. Can't you realize that making two Unities is just making the work a lot harder? Compiz is STILL buggy and resources-eater. And Unity 2D is not customizable AT ALL. Moving the launcher to the bottom would be a great feature for monitors that are not widescreen. My monitor, for example, is a 17 4:3. Instead of complaining, please find a constructive way to engage, or leave. ... I'm sorry, but how many more constructive opinions are needed to you understand what power users, the ones that made Ubuntu popular (recommending to friends, etc) really want? People are already porting Launcher's behavior to go to the bottom ( http://www.webupd8.org/2011/10/how-to-move-unity-launcher-to-bottom- of.html ), why this can't just be official? [Bug 776745] [NEW] Unity's sidebar 'Urgent' icon animation not constant
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity Let me explain: - You are using an IM client; - You are doing something else; - You receive a new IM message; - The system sends a 'urgent' notification to the message window. - In Unity's sidebar, it works in a way that the program icon pulses/wiggles *only once* when this happens; - *Tiny triangles* at the left part of the icon become blue. That's hard to notice, specially when you are not looking at the screen when the notification occurred. Like in any dock application, or Mac's dock, the icon keeps pulsing/wiggling/jumping until you click it. I'd like to have that option in Unity's interface. I searched CompizConfig Settings Manager and gconf-editor, but didn't find anything useful to change the behavior to what I want. I've tried to post this into brainstorm, but it was denied for not being an idea, so I'm trying here. [Bug 351305] Re: Ubuntu freezes when it loses wireless signal (also very weak signal)
Thanks for your reply, AceLan Kao. I tried to install this package linux-backports-modules-jaunty, but it didn't work. Probably because I already did a lot of changes here (removing modules, installing and purging ndiswrapper, etc). I don't have time to format my machine now, but when I have time, I will do it to test. BUT, my brother did a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04 on his computer and Ubuntu was freezing with this same bug. I said to him to install this linux-backports-modules-jaunty and it seems that it resolved his problem. No freezing anymore. Also, he had to install this package on his Toshiba netbook to have wireless working. It seems this package is in development, but it would be very nice if a stable version of it can be release with Ubuntu 9.10, so a lot of people won't have this problem anymore. Hi AcenLan Kao, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, this bug is still present in Ubuntu 9.04. Also, I don't know what is NetworkManager doing, but with some USB WiFi cards (not all of them), using Linux's default driver, when I connect to anything (ad-hoc or infrastructure), it seems that it makes the interface go down. [Bug 351305] [NEW] Ubuntu freezes when it loses wireless signal (also very weak signal)
Public bug reported: My router is a Linksys WRT54G v8 (with official firmware, not DD-WRT) and my wireless card is an Atheros 5008. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10. It freezes when it loses wireless signal. I'm not using encryption. Only MAC Filter. Also, I'm getting very weak wireless signal. Windows XP gets 50~60%. It doesn't freeze in XP. Ubuntu 8.10 gets 15~30%. Another note: I have another computer that is 30cm away from the router. And the wireless (RTL-8185) signal power? 50%. My luck that I use this wi-fi card for another purposes (it's connected with cable). Windows XP gets 100%. That's unacceptable... The same problem occurs with Ubuntu 9.04 Beta. I don't know either if this bug only affects Ubuntu (probably yes). Gonna test other distros when I have time. I also have another case that a friend of mine tried to install Ubuntu on his laptop, but the wireless signal was so weak (comparing to Windows Vista Starter), that he gave up on Ubuntu (and Linux). I'm trying to use ndiswrapper with Windows XP drivers in this Atheros 5008. The signal boosted like 5% and the freezing seemed to stop (I'm not sure yet). Well, I didn't want to use ndiswrapper. It's a lot easier for everybody to use Ubuntu's default configuration. Please, fix this annoying bug ASAP.
