In Karmic, the option of autologin is available in the Login Screen Settings, even when home is encrypted. This just leaves the unaware and unexperienced user at risk of making his computer unusable. Hi I just wanna draw some attention on this "Screen and Graphics Preferences" issue. Yesterday I went back to play a little with the settings. No, I still think it's a bug. The window is indeed supposed to snap to the edge of the screen, and wobble when dragged away - and it does. But what I'm trying to point out is a different story. I also tried, after a crash, to let it launch by itself the selected screen saver - Braid - but that too freezes the computer after it displays those coloured circles on full screen. This is the only screen saver with this problem. I checked all the others one by one. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz Hi this is a fresh install of Ubuntu daily desktop from 30.03.2007. i did all the updates and installed the nvidia drivers when i clicked on desktop effects. everything was ok, but i wanted some control over the effects so i installed from synaptic: compiz-extra (0.3.6.1-0ubuntu1) gnome-compiz-manager (0.10.3-0ubuntu1) libgnome-compiz-manager0 (0.10.3-0ubuntu1) When i went to System->Preferences->Gl Desktop, the screen started flickering and after a few seconds the effects disappeared. Re: [Bug 77164] Re: Intense processor activity when Amarok is maximized
i wanted to use compiz with the ubuntu included mesa drivers. i'm a linux beginner so i looked for tutorials. the only ones i could find for installing compiz + aiglx referred to gandalfn's repositories. if you could give me a link to a how to that uses the official compiz, i'll try it. i'm also having some trouble with the compiz now. i tried to install fglrx and xgl because i wanted to use google earth. unfortunately it wasn't very stable so i rolled back my original xorg.conf and reinstalled the mesa drivers. the problem is that i can't get direct rendering on and now, gandalfn's compiz does'n work. [Bug 77164] Intense processor activity when Amarok is maximized
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz System monitor is showing 100% processor activity when Amarok runs maximized, even thought the computer is pretty much idle and Amarok is not playing any song. I also noticed that when i cover Amarok with another maximized program, for example Mozilla Firefox, the processor activity drops to 50% on average. now, when i minimize Amarok to the tray, but keep Mozilla maximized, the processor drops to 0%. Another observation: when i shrink Amarok (drag the borders) to about half the size of the desktop, processor activity also drops to about 50%. i use compiz-freedesktop, version 0.3.5.git20061221-0gandalfn1 with Aiglx and the original ubuntu edgy video driver. i hope i posted this in the right place, because the synaptic package manager shows me there is also another set of compiz packages (compiz 1:0.3.3) that conflicts with what i have installed. ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Intense processor activity when Amarok is maximized https://launchpad.net/bugs/77164 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 72390] Re: Amarok collection scanner is crashing during collection rescan
"Do you have any steps to where I can reproduce this bug?" Well, I was rescaning the 8500 songs library (i didn't notice the update button at that time). about one minute after moving some files inside the big collection folder (i was moving it during the rescan) i got that crash message. but everything was ok after that, and the folder i had moved was included in the database, so that was probably not the reason for the report. i don't know what more "steps" i could give you. anyway, it wasn't a big problem at all, just a wrong, confusing message. [Bug 72390] Re: Amarok collection scanner is crashing during collection rescan
during a collection rescan, Amarok sais it crashed and made this error report, but it went on with scanning and worked fine after that. one reason for the crash might be that i deleted a folder and added another one during the scan. but scanning lasts a few minutes for my >8500 collection so chances are slim. ** Attachment added: "crash report generated by Amarok" http://librarian.launchpad.net/5189254/_usr_lib_amarok_amarokcollectionscanner.1000.crash -- Amarok collection scanner is crashing during collection rescan https://launchpad.net/bugs/72390 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
