[Bug 353446] Re: GDM auto login won't work with ecryptfs

2009-11-08 Thread Vlad Socaciu
In Karmic, the option of autologin is available in the Login Screen
Settings, even when home is encrypted. This just leaves the unaware and
unexperienced user at risk of making his computer unusable. Many people
I know like having their computer autologin. If they are not aware of
the problem, the potential of combining it with home encryption is quite
big. It should definitely be fixed quickly.

Does wishlist importance mean it will only be done for the next release?

[Bug 424780] Re: cover image sometimes doesn't get set

2009-09-05 Thread Vlad Socaciu
I tested a little bit more, and found out the problem. It happens when
the folder is named "cover" or "artwork".

I'm pretty sure this aspect is not documented anywhere, and that is the
main problem here. Maybe the Cover Manager should make this aspect
obvious somehow.

[Bug 424780] [NEW] cover image sometimes doesn't get set

2009-09-05 Thread Vlad Socaciu
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 9.04, Amarok 2.1.

To reproduce, have an album in a folder that contains:

>folder
music_file_1.mp3
music_file_2.mp3
cover.jpg

If that's the case, then Amarok won't automatically select cover.jpg as
the cover of the album.

[Bug 300988] Re: Cannot connect to yahoo server from behind a proxy

2008-12-10 Thread Vlad Socaciu
>From the link you gave me, I understand you want me to configure my
proxy to allow those ports. Unfortunately, I am not an administrator
here, the only thing I can configure is how pidgin connects to the
internet. In my case, it has to go through http proxy 10.8.1.1:3128.

Looking at the account configuration menu (advanced tab), it seems like
5050 is the pager port (whatever that is) used by Yahoo in Japan. So
normally, I wouldn't even need it.

[Bug 300988] Re: Cannot connect to yahoo server from behind a proxy

2008-12-10 Thread Vlad Socaciu
Hi

As you said, my network is indeed very restrictive, but that doesn't
stop the official client Yahoo! Messenger from working ok under Windows
XP on this same computer. If communication over 5050 were required by
the the Yahoo protocol, Yahoo! Messenger should be blocked too. To my
this seems clearly a problem with Pidgin.

I've opened up the bug again.

[Bug 300988] [NEW] Cannot connect to yahoo server from behind a proxy

2008-11-22 Thread Vlad Socaciu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

I am using Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10, pidgin 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1

I get the folowing error when I try to connect to my yahoo account.

Could not establish a connection with the server:
Access denied: HTTP proxy server forbids port 5050 tunneling.

I am forced to connect through proxy, the campus network doesn't allow
otherwise.
It used to work ok in Ubuntu 8.04, except of course for the common buddy icons
problem.

Thanks

PS. I'd use the 'Report a Problem' feature, but I'm guessing it also
doesn't work because of the proxy.

[Bug 141248] Re: screen and graphics preferences doesn't quite work

2008-02-13 Thread Vlad Socaciu
Hi
I just wanna draw some attention on this "Screen and Graphics Preferences"
issue.

Yesterday I went back to play a little with the settings. Unfortunately, I
managed to make my computer unable to boot just by selecting Screen 2 as
default.
After I made the change, I logged out but the welcome screen didn't show up.
Instead I only had a black screen with a small prompter in the upper left
corner. I can't go to a terminal screen (pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1), I can't do
anything, although the keyboard is not dead (caps lock led works correctly).

I know this is not a support forum, but I would really appreciate it if
someone could tell me what file "Screen and Graphics Preferences" edits,
and if it's not trivial, what should I change in it to get my system
back.

Thanks.

I found the reason why I couldn't add a new DNS address. It was because

able able to add a new one, I have to stretch the window bigger.

[Bug 186423] Re: Wobbly windows shiver when dragging to another workspace

2008-01-31 Thread Vlad Socaciu
No, I still think it's a bug.

The window is indeed supposed to snap to the edge of the screen, and
wobble when dragged away - and it does. But what I'm trying to point out
is a different story. The wobble happens when the window is in mid-
transition between two workspaces, just after the rotation of the cube.
And it can get pretty wild sometimes, with the window looking like it's
being torn apart.

I think you should change the "invalid" status.

[Bug 141248] Re: screen and graphics preferences doesn't quite work

2007-09-27 Thread Vlad Socaciu
to: Sebastian H.

nope, not as it should.

i selected "Model: Plug 'n' Play, Resolution: 1280x1024 @ 85Hz" and loged off.
After that, the log in screen behaved strange. I couldn't see the lower options
bar, but i could scroll my view to it. Now when i look to the Screen and
Graphics Preferences window, I have "Model: Plug 'n' Play, Resolution:
1280x1024 @ 50Hz" and i can only select from 50, 51 and 56 Hz. Same in the
Screen Resolution window.

My monitor though, shows me that i see 1280x1024 @ 85Hz.

sorry for the late response

[Bug 141248] screen and graphics preferences doesn't quite work

2007-09-20 Thread Vlad Socaciu
Public bug reported:

The Screen and Graphics Preferences doesn't always show me the same
options, and it behaves strange.

I have a DELL P991 crt monitor, so i chose the model for screen 1, the default
screen. I chose the maximum resolution, 1600x1200, but when i try to choose the
frequency, i am given 3 weird options: 60, 61 and 64Hz (my monitor can display
1600x1200 at 85Hz). so i select the highest, 64, and restart.
When i go back to Screen and Graphics Preferences, it has a different
resolution selected, 1280x1024 @ 64.

My monitor's OSD shows [EMAIL PROTECTED] Also, 1280x1024 is the resolution
selected from preferences -> Screen Resolution, where i'm also limited
to 60, 61 and 64Hz. And speaking of this window, when i select 1600x1200
i'm given the following frequencies: 50, 51, 53, 55, 56. Other
resolutions are corelated with other strange frequencies.

[Bug 101943] Braid screensaver crashes system with compiz activated

2007-04-03 Thread Vlad Socaciu
Public bug reported:

Selecting Braid screensaver when Desktop effects are activated runs my
system unusable. I'm running Fiesty on a dual core amd64, but i guess
these kind of details are now included automatically in the report,
right?

So what happens is that the screen freezes and i can only move the mouse
and hear gaim playing specific sounds. the keyboard is completely
unresponsive, not even the caps lock or num lock buttons don't work. I
can only press the reset button on my computer to get back. Obviously,
going back to screen saver preferences puts me in the same situation. i
must first deactivate desktop effects and only then change the
screensaver.

I also tried, after a crash, to let it launch by itself the selected screen
saver - Braid - but that too freezes the computer after it displays those
coloured circles on full screen.
This is the only screen saver with this problem. I checked all the others one
by one.

2007-03-31 Thread Vlad Socaciu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Hi
this is a fresh install of Ubuntu daily desktop from 30.03.2007. i did all the
updates and installed the nvidia drivers when i clicked on desktop effects.
everything was ok, but i wanted some control over the effects so i installed
from synaptic:
compiz-extra (0.3.6.1-0ubuntu1)
gnome-compiz-manager (0.10.3-0ubuntu1)
libgnome-compiz-manager0 (0.10.3-0ubuntu1)
When i went to System->Preferences->Gl Desktop, the screen started flickering
and after a few seconds the effects disappeared.

Re: [Bug 77164] Re: Intense processor activity when Amarok is maximized

2007-02-08 Thread Vlad Socaciu
i wanted to use compiz with the ubuntu included mesa drivers. i'm a linux
beginner so i looked for tutorials. the only ones i could find for
installing compiz + aiglx referred to gandalfn's repositories.
if you could give me a link to a how to that uses the official compiz, i'll
try it.

i'm also having some trouble with the compiz now. i tried to install fglrx
and xgl because i wanted to use google earth. unfortunately it wasn't very
stable so i rolled back my original xorg.conf and reinstalled the mesa
drivers. the problem is that i can't get direct rendering on and now,
gandalfn's compiz does'n work.

[Bug 77164] Intense processor activity when Amarok is maximized

2006-12-26 Thread Vlad Socaciu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

System monitor is showing 100% processor activity when Amarok runs
maximized, even thought the computer is pretty much idle and Amarok is
not playing any song.

I also noticed that when i cover Amarok with another maximized program,
for example Mozilla Firefox, the processor activity drops to 50% on
average. now, when i minimize Amarok to the tray, but keep Mozilla
maximized, the processor drops to 0%.

Another observation: when i shrink Amarok (drag the borders) to about
half the size of the desktop, processor activity also drops to about
50%.

i use compiz-freedesktop, version 0.3.5.git20061221-0gandalfn1 with Aiglx and
the original ubuntu edgy video driver.
i hope i posted this in the right place, because the synaptic package manager
shows me there is also another set of compiz packages (compiz 1:0.3.3) that
conflicts with what i have installed.

Re: [Bug 72390] Re: Amarok collection scanner is crashing during collection rescan

2006-12-23 Thread Vlad Socaciu
"Do you have any steps to where I can reproduce this bug?" Well, I was
rescaning the 8500 songs library (i didn't notice the update button at that
time). about one minute after moving some files inside the big collection
folder (i was moving it during the rescan) i got that crash message. but
everything was ok after that, and the folder i had moved was included in the
database, so that was probably not the reason for the report. i don't know
what more "steps" i could give you. anyway, it wasn't a big problem at all,
just a wrong, confusing message.

[Bug 72390] Re: Amarok collection scanner is crashing during collection rescan

2006-11-28 Thread Vlad Socaciu
during a collection rescan, Amarok sais it crashed and made this error
report, but it went on with scanning and worked fine after that.

one reason for the crash might be that i deleted a folder and added
another one during the scan. but scanning lasts a few minutes for my
>8500 collection so chances are slim.
