[Bug 1934462] Re: Ability to hibernate lost after update of kernel version
cat /sys/power/disk yields [disabled] cat /sys/power/state yields freeze mem Trying to change any of them (e.g. the "state" file to "mem freeze disk standby") with sudo vi /sys/power/state results in vi in the notice: '"/sys/power/state" E514: write error (file system full) WARNING: Original file may be lost or damaged don't quit the editor until the file is successfully written! ' Trying to change and save the file with sudo nano /sys/power/state yields the message: '[ Error writing /sys/power/state: Invalid argument ]' Any other operation on these files like mv, cp, chmod result in a: "Operation not permitted" error. So why can I not change/write any of these files though the permissions on them suggest it?? At least I alreay solved my problem with "sudo hibernate": The root cause that this did not work is that "Secure Boot" was enabled (again - for whatever reason) in my UEFI/BIOS. After having switched it off (again) hibernation works again. BUT: Even after having switches off "Secure Boot" I still can not write any of the files in /sys/power. No matter what I do or how I try! This remains and seems independant of the kernel version. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1934462 Title: Ability to hibernate lost after update of kernel version To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1934462/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1934462] Re: Ability to hibernate lost after update of kernel version
** Description changed: Hi! I have Ubuntu 18.04 installed (due to Petalinux requirement) where Hibernation so far at least worked. Recently I got an update notification, confirmed it and am now running on this version: $ uname -a Linux datatel-XMG-CORE-M19-GTX-1650 5.4.0-77-generic #86~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jun 18 01:23:22 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Before the update, using kernel 5.4.0.74 a "sudo hibernate" worked fine. Now it does not, instead returns a black screen for a sec and then this notice: hibernate:Warning: Tuxonice binary signature file not found. In addition the system hangs for a couple of seconds. Looking for help on that I saw several posts proposing to adapt /sys/power/state, adding "disk" and "standby" to it. I have tried that in any possible way I could think of, using vi directly on the file (as su), writing it with an "echo... > /sys/power/state" command, making up a file in my home and then copying to that location using "sudo cp ~/ /sys/power/state". Neither of this works. I always get a permission error. I have even tried to "chmod" all the directories to "777" and that was successful looking at "ls -la" but won't help either. Maybe I should mention that my Ubuntu installation resides on a USB- Stick. I posted this on Ask Ubuntu and was asked to file a bug report. So here you are. Thanks. [Bug 1893513] Re: man page of lsof command broken
Hi I've tested the version of the lsof package in focal-proposed. The version is 4.93.2+dfsg-1ubuntu0.20.04.1. The "man lsof" command now works. I'd like to "change the tag from verification-needed-focal to verification-done-focal", but I'm too lazy to figure out how to do it. :) You could write how to do this in the "Please test proposed package" mail/post. You should also advise to do a "apt update; apt full-upgrade" before activating the -proposed respository by checking "Pre-released updates" in the developer options in the Software & Updates program on the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed wiki page. This would avoid confusion later. [Bug 1896389] [NEW] Problem with Nautilus and Port 22 when a different port is configured
Public bug reported: I've configured my ssh client(s) to use a port different from 22, in order to avoid the large number of break-in attempts on the standard port 22. That's the "Port" setting in /etc/ssh/ssh_config. I've also configured my ssh servers (different machines) to use that port. That's also "Port", in /etc/ssh/sshd_config. This works fine. But now I'm trying to use nautilus to connect via sftp to my website, using the address: sftp://username@provider:22/path/to/www/data The port 22, which is to be used, is provided. The configured new default port is overridden by it. This works for the sftp command: sftp sftp://username@provider:22/path/to/www/data But it doesn't work with nautilus. I get this message (translated back from German to English): "The server has refused the connection. This usually is because of a firewall denies access or the remote service isn't running." But when I change the default port in /etc/ssh/ssh_config back to 22, it works! It looks like nautilus fails to regard the port, which is provided in the URL (see above). Yes, choosing "Details" in the list to the left, causes the crash. No "-> About" needed. When doing so, "Details" becomes the last choosen panel ("last-panel='info-overview'"), and is opened automatically when starting gnome-control-center again. [Bug 1831494] [NEW] USB-related kernel problem with scanner
Public bug reported: My Canon CanoScan LiDE 220 scanner had worked reasonably well, until a new kernel has been installed. It went into stop-and-go mode, and made funny noises. [Bug 1767133] Re: linux-image-4.15.0-20-generic install after upgrade from xenial breaks
kernel 4.15.0-21: hi cascardo, previously, I attempted to remove the kernel via synaptic. And linux-image-4.15.0-21 could not be removed. This time I did apt-get remove --purge. I get (translation from german) rmdir: /lib/modules/4.15.0-21-generic could not be removed: not empty, and dpkg: during removal of linux-modules-4.15.0-21-generic, the directory /lib/modules/4.15.0-21 is not empty. Thus, will not be removed. However, this time the kernel is indeed removed completely (all 5 .deb files). In fact, /lib/modules/4.15.0-21-generic contains stuff related to virtualbox only, such as vboxdrv.ko (3 more .ko files). This means that, during boot, we need to set up both crypto volumes, before we can mount the root filesystem. So we can't use a keyfile. This is accomplished by querying the user for the password of each crypto volume, except for the ones which use a key file. This means that I'll have to enter two passwords every time I boot my machine. This could be done better by making the user enter just one password, and unlocking all matching crypto disks with it. So I would set the same password for both crypto disks, and would have to enter the password only once. This is my feature request. [Bug 1599374] Re: Short form of option "--node" ("-n") is present, but broken and undocumented
** Description changed: The option "--node" of "pinfo" is used to initially navigate to a section of the info page (a node), in the same way it is implemented in "info". This option is important when accessing long info pages. It could be expected that the option is compatible with "info", and therefore has a short form "-n". It seems like this was actually intended to be the case. Using the option "-n", as in - $ pinfo zsh -n Keymaps + $ pinfo zsh -n Keymaps fails with an error message referring to the long option "--node": - $ pinfo zsh -n Keymaps - Przemek's Info Viewer v0.6.9 - --node option used without argument + $ pinfo zsh -n Keymaps + Przemek's Info Viewer v0.6.9 + --node option used without argument The long option works fine, in the same way it does in "info": - $ pinfo zsh --node Keymaps + $ pinfo zsh --node Keymaps opens the info page for "zsh", showing the section "Keymaps". + (The option "--n" does work, because it is a prefix form of the long + option) + + The option "-n" is not mentioned in the documentation, which is currently + correct - but most other options have a short variant. + + Another example of the options relevance: - $ pinfo coreutils --node 'tsort invocation' + $ pinfo coreutils --node 'tsort invocation' - shows the info page of "tsort" (a node of coreutils, actually), + shows the info page of "tsort" (a node of coreutils, actually), while using "-n" does not. Navigating manually from - $ pinfo coreutils + $ pinfo coreutils is not a good alternative, because the index is long.
