[Bug 1971168] Re: [snap] Files on local network shares are not opened / written
Re #103 Just tested the new package from proposed together with Firefox 127.0.2. Things appear to work just as expected now and I can no longer reproduce the issue. (In reply to Al Savage from comment #6) > [...] it may not be limited to FF, snaps, or even Mozilla, since my Chrome > install behaves similarly. You are right, this is actually affecting other applications, too. I get the exact same behavior described in the steps to reproduce when using Chromium installed via snap: Local files open fine, opening files on network shares does not trigger any reaction. [Bug 1971168] Re: [snap] Downloaded files not saved when saving to local network share
I've updated the bug to reflect that multiple applications are affected by this. On my system I can reproduce the issue with Firefox and Chromium, both installed via snap. ** Also affects: snapd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Steps to reproduce: - 1. Run Firefox as a Snap package in Ubuntu 22.04 + 1. Run Firefox or Chromium as a Snap package in Ubuntu 22.04 2. Have a SMB file server available where the network shares can be mounted just by clicking on the share in Nautilus file manager (smb:// protocol, usually mounted dynamically via `/var/run/user/.../gvfs/...`) 3. Have one such share mounted and writable - 4. Open any website containing images in Firefox + 4. Open any website containing images in Firefox / Chromium 5. Right-click on an image and select "Save Image As..." 6. In the file save dialog, navigate to the mounted share 7. Assert content of network share is visible and browsable from within the save dialog 8. [Bug 1971009] Re: Read-only file system on a battery
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected impish ** Description changed: I have a 2021 Dell XPS 15 (9510) i7-11800H, 16 GB, 512 GB SSD, RTX 3050Ti, Windows 11 Pro. I’ve updated the following components: - replaced the RAM to 2x32 GB - added a brand new Samsung 980 Pro to the second NVMe slot On the secondary NVMe drive, I’ve installed Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Usually, I use Dell WD19TBS USB-C 180W to supply the power, Internet, external USB keyboard and mouse, and two monitors. When doing so, everything seems to be working perfectly for a long time whether working with Ubuntu or Windows. However, when the laptop is running on battery, I’m observing Ubuntu freezes that happen anywhere between seconds to minutes after a reboot. The keyboard stops responding, the icons go missing, and I’m getting dropped to the terminal with the following messages appearing: __ext4_find_entry:1611 inode #12272199: comm gmain: reading directory lblock 0 __ext4_find_entry:1611 inode #12272199: comm gmain: reading directory lblock 0 And after a few seconds, the following start to appear: system-journald: Failed to write entry (22 items, 750 bytes), ignoring: Read-only file system system-journald: Failed to write entry (22 items, 750 bytes), ignoring: Read-only file system It seems that disconnecting the docking station usually triggers the freeze immediately. When starting from a battery, it usually takes a few minutes before everything freezes. The only way to recover is to do a power long-press. If I do this sequence a few times - boot, wait for hang, power long-press, boot again, usually at some point the Samsung 980 Pro is no longer visible in the BIOS. I need to boot into Windows, wait a bit, reboot again, and the drive appears and it’s possible to boot to Ubuntu What I’ve tried: update Ubuntu to 21.10 update to the latest kernel: 5.13.0-41-generic update all drivers, including BIOS, from Windows using Dell SupportAssistant update Samsung 980 Pro firmware through Samsung Magican enabling Full Power Mode in Samsung Magician check SMART report for Samsung, it’s all clear change GRUB params, currently they look like this: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash pcie_aspm=off nvme_load=YES nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=250 scsi_mod.use_blk_mq=0" tried also default_ps_max_latency values 0, 5500 fsck from a live boot pendrive It looks like the drive decides to go to a sleep at some point and does not wake up. Windows works well both with docking station and battery, the Samsung NVMe is recognized by Samsung Magician. Any hint what else can I check? I have the same problem with Dell Latitude E7440, Ubuntu 20.04, after an update to kernel 5.4.0-92, and having linux-firmware 1.187.24. 1) I'm using a UGreen USB Switch to switch between the inputs of keyboard, mouse and audio between two stations 2) After the kernel and linux-firmware upgrade I did a reboot, the system took much longer to start (console shown "failed to enumerate USB devices"), when it did boot external keyboards and mouse wasn't working 3) Pluging in any device directly to laptop's USB port does not work 4) I've managed to get the external keyboard and mouse to work by disabling the Bluetooth in Ubuntu settings and rebooting back to 5.4.0-91 (worked via USB Switch) 5) However after another reboot to 5.4.0-91, USB ports stopped working again -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956518 Title: linux-firmware 1.187.24 may crash USB ports To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/1956518/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Even then, the notes in comment #87 are not the complete instructions. Basically, this method is a dirty workaround of a patch job that needs to be truly fixed in both the backend and the UI. The method used to get and capture the key is not graceful, and the UI is plain incorrect. I would fix it myself if it was something that had the skill to do (I love open source software for that!), but I do not feel comfortable in my skill level making those modifications. Instead, I have pointed this very skilled and talented community to another piece of open-source software that has done a very good job at tackling this issue for not only Google Drive, but also for numerous other cloud storage vendors. Their code base is mature, and the capabilities of that tool complement what users of this project need. In reality, the project might even look at integrating that tool's functionality into this one, similar to how other modules have become standard within the software. Spell checking is one function that comes to mind. I see this as an opportunity to potentially have one community help another, giving them both a way to learn from the other's work and experience. This is not working in v7.2.2.2 The key is not being properly stored, and the UI leaves a LOT to be desired. [Bug 1871644]
(In reply to Emilio Cobos Álvarez (:emilio) from comment #20) Non-composited X11 (the legacy variant of X11: i3, KDE with manually disabled compositor, etc.) does not support transparency. Everything that would usually be transparent/alpha is just black/opaque. Menus and window corners had [shadows on black background](https://bug1479135.bmoattachments.org/attachment.cgi?id=8995686) (=fat black borders). The autoscroll icon was a [black square with a white circle](https://bug1649246.bmoattachments.org/attachment.cgi?id=9160184) in it. [XShapeCombineMask](https://searchfox.org/mozilla- central/search?q=XShapeCombineMask=) is implemented for software rendering only. Firefox creates a stencil (like a cookie cutter) of where transparency needs to get cut off. X11 then applies this stencil on every frame. The outer shadow of a rounded main menu, addon widget or [window titlebar](https://searchfox.org/mozilla- central/rev/37373cdeed20695af1ff1fd090f0736d9bf15e65/widget/gtk/nsWindow.cpp#6729,6793) has transparency, so it gets cut off by X11, leaving a rounded widget without shadow. XShapeCombineMask is not implemented for hardware rendering. That's why SW WR is enforced for menus, addons and autoscroll icon on non-composited X11 to make use of XShapeCombineMask while the main window is still using OpenGL. XShapeCombineMask * caused problems on [Mutter](https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/rev/37373cdeed20695af1ff1fd090f0736d9bf15e65/widget/gtk/nsWindow.cpp#9084) back then * crashes the GPU process on Nvidia: bug 1730991 * causes performance problems according to the Chromium bugtracker: bug 1733094 comment 18,https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1198080 Could XShapeCombineMask be removed and instead menus and the autoscroll icon loose their border-radius (become rectangular) and loose their shadow (to avoid black background) if gdk_screen_is_composited() is false? IIUC, that would reduce code complexity, improve stability and performance. A rectangular autoscroll icon on non-composited X11 would be noticeable. But users choose non-composited X11 to get more performance than with composited X11.
