[Bug 288494] Re: the youtube code needs to be updated

2009-03-21 Thread Wayne H
I already had the totem package above already installed (came thru
automatic update) but it still didn't fix it. The way I had been doing
it was to copy the downloaded youtube video from the /tmp folder to
desktop and add extension .flv. This used to work about 6 months ago but
no longer.

My fix:
Download package youtube-dl with synaptic package manager.
To use, open terminal and enter:
youtube-dl youtube video URL
The resulting .flv file will be saved to your home folder (unless you changed
directory in terminal).
I can play this flv in totem no problems.

Hope that helps.

[Bug 182473] Re: rtl8187 drops connection

2008-07-26 Thread Wayne H
Also have problems. Running fresh install of 8.04.1 and my wireless
Netgear WG111v2 USB adapter which has the rtl8187 chipset drops out on
downloads (ie using transmission, downloading iso's, or anything of
size).

This used to work perfectly on Ubuntu 6.10. The irony is that I am
unable to download further Ubuntu iso's.

[Bug 222803] Re: Java broken in openoffice hardy upgrades

2008-07-26 Thread Wayne H
To sum up for a fresh 8.04.1 install:
After fresh 8.04.1 install, installed ubuntu-restricted-extras which among
others installed packages java-common, sun-jave6-bin, sun-java6-jre,
sun-java6-plugin. Upon checking, OpenOffice has no JRE installed
(Tools-options-Java), even though the box is ticked.

After installing openoffice.org-java-common, then restarting OpenOffice,
OpenOffice now has JRE.

I think for fresh installs, the package openoffice.org-java-common
should be added among the packages in ubuntu-restricted-extras.

[Bug 27014] Bug 27014

2007-12-18 Thread Wayne H.
This bug initially manifested itself when I tried to empty trash. It
now shows up when fetching mail. At times I receive the same email
several times. Is Ubuntu a real program or do I have to go back to
Windows so if there is a problem it gets fixed. The mess with email is
not a joke. Is it being worked on? Or are people with more time on
their hands than I trying a hackers fix. For most people a computer and
its programs are a toolnot a recreation.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 27014 ***

Is anybody going to fix this bug? I believe it happened when I upgraded
to the latest version of Ubuntu. I keep getting enhancements to ubuntu
but no fixes of this bug which will eventually drag my computer to a
halt. I'm not a computer geekI use my computer as a tool for my
work. Ubuntu is a tool and not an end in itself.

2007-11-24 Thread Wayne H.
Thanks for the reply.

I'm not computer savvy enough to know how to run things from the command
line. However, when I try to empty trash I get the following notice,
framed in a box.

Evolution Error
Error while expunging folder
error storing'~/evolution/mail/local/inbox(mbox)':

I hope this is of help. If it's not enough, more explicit instructions
will be needed.

Thanks,

syncronizing files. Re-booted and still didn't work. Trash shows 645 deleted
