Hi Jan, I have given up for a while on Ubunt/Kubuntu. Back to vista as it is still morestable. My heart blooding but I need to work (I am a commodities trader) and several other drers do not more work well since the recent kubuntu version. I will Try Kubuntu next year when there is a new version and hopefully more useful for business use. I did reformat! Tried all I could find at the forums, then I tried the latest Beta disk (system recovery) and installed an new Grub, rebooted and no more HD to find MBR destroyed and then I tried several HD recover programs with no way to get the MBR restored. HD refused to accept repair actions So I reformatted with PartLogic and setup Kubuntu again. Thats why I don't hope that I will enter again a new Error 18 Will file a bug later today for sure. THANK YOU, I WILL DO SO, BUT PLEASE READ BELOW AND IF POSSIBLE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT IT: I guess its more a general question for Kubuntu/Ubuntu. I used the latest Kubuntu Beta disk with System recovery, REINSTALLED GRUB, and as result my MBR was destroyed..after I rebooted. I Tried a lot of utilitis (even from Windows) to recover that MBR but no way. All utilities explained that hd0 starts incorrectly not at 0 but 63 And no way to fix that. So I reformed my HD and did set Kubuntu fresh. Lost a lot. Its real pity that there is not such nice system recovery system as under windows. Why by the... under Ubuntu it is not possible to set a new system without to use a new partition? If there is a partition prior used by (k)ubuntu then it should be possible to copy the system again. Sure some programs needs afterwards new installed, but data losses would be avoided. Will post that tomorrow also under support as it is incredible that such a good Linux system is unable to restore systems without data losses. A new partition for any setup is a bad joke I think. I am using Feisty most recent beta. Decided the first time to hibernate. Seemed to work. As i restarted I got grub error 18 and no way to reactivate Grub. Tried all including root (hd0,0) and install (hd0). and anything I found in our forums. All responded correctly, only the /boot/grub/stage2 is not to find. Hope that there is a solution to get the hd0 back to work. I run amd64 generic. Any question welcome. Seems I face the same!! Since last week I can not more upgrade Feisty. Always I get below strange lines in my terminal/Console and it looks as if there is a broken output. I stuck with 100 upgradeable packages and no Synaptic, no Adept works out. always it breaks. OK a step further Found the buggy package! Step by step with synaptic I installed some 96 packages without problems. Only libx11-6 and libx11-dev are not to install, every time it results in terminal is not fully functional and a frozen Synaptic. Seems the bug is with libx11-6 and libx11-dev as all others now worked out. Hi Aron, Got a bug identification from Synaptic!! Conducted just a new full install and this time I checked what synaptic shows in details. Cannot copy that so I send you a screen shot of that window. Tells me that there is grave bug in eclipse. Hope that helps you (and me). So I have no Eclipse now installed . Its a pity. Hi Aron, To test a bit more after I upgraded today again Feisty I started to reinstall Calisto and Webtools via termninal without sudo. And I got the below, hope it helps you now to allocate what is wrong with Eclipse under Feisty. What can I do more?? A lot of re-downloads are happening, without any prior error pop up from upgrade manager telling me that the voted updates or installing are depending on something, but when I the download and install, Eclipse simple freeze for a long time when installing and I get below info. OK lost my mood, and purged all eclipse via aptitude and then checked with synaptic. All was un-installed. Then I restarted and installed via sudo only Eclipse! Started in terminal. And got , but see see below, hope you find now time to advsie me what to do. Or shall I forget Eclipse for the time being??? Thanks a lot Aron. Yes I run Sun 5.0, but I found now that that there are other Javas also installed - as it seems automatically. Will try to clean that up to have only that SUN 5.0 installed. Hope that helps and not breaks other applications. Using a Alpha version is amazing but interesting. Only pity that Eclipse does not have such sophisticated application (applet) install system like Ubuntu. Hope that one day its works like per example the Apache installments. There I don't need to go to Apache to add functionality, all is in Synaptic and thats all I need. Never mind, will check up my Java and then report about results. OK I use now Sun 5 Java and I get when I click to update: Requested operation cannot be performed because it would invalidate the current configuration. See details for more information. Platform configuration has been modified outside this program. A restart is recommended. But it is a clean and fresh sudo eclipse install without anything else done in Eclipse respect. I even removed all Eclipse folders (Krusader root) and also the deb packages before I did install via sudo apt-get again Will now try Sun 1.4 and report on that. The blackdown 1.4 cause teh same result. If you need some logs etc pls advise. Step by Step what I did and the results. I used the Eclipse internal tool Menu Help - Software Updates - Find and Install - Search for updates of current - Finish and teh downloading starts again. Then I get No updates are to find. But PDT requires upgrade, therefore : Then I use Menu Help - Software Updates - Find and Install - Search for new features to install - Next - and mark The Eclipse Project Updates without to mark PDT (as PDT requires a Eclipse upgrade) - Finish - Then next window confirm upgrade and - Next - and a long list of possible upgrades appears (some with a red cross!!!) then - FINISH a- and again a lot downloads. My ISP like my bill I have to pay. Why Eclipse downloaded updates are not cached as Ubuntu? Would save a lot off traffic. Still with todays Feisty Upgrades Klamav is switching itself off after a few sec. In System Monitor only freshclam keeps active as sleeping. I did a sudo dpkg-reconfigure -a --force which asked also a lot of questions regarding clamav/Klamav, and no error was reported whilst setting all up again... Result still the same Klamav does not work! Starts well and stops by its own. Not correct I guess. Should keep running.
