[Bug 491648] Re: Meta tags inserted by avidemux interfere with totem playback

2009-12-14 Thread Wei-Yee Chan
Kindly note that:

1. Some files with the meta tags do play fine under Totem.
2. The problem is restricted to Totem. The "corrupted" files do play well under
mplayer or other players, which makes me wonder whether it's really a problem
with Totem rather than avidemux.

Thanks.

[Bug 491648] Re: Meta tags inserted by avidemux interfere with totem playback

2009-12-14 Thread Wei-Yee Chan
Yes, it does. I tried encoding some files with Lucid and the same
thing occurred to some files.

I am also sure that it has nothing to do with my hardware. What
happened on my old pentium 4 is still occurring on my AMD64 X2 system.

[Bug 491648] Re: Meta tags inserted by avidemux interfere with totem playback

2009-12-08 Thread Wei-Yee Chan
I've got second thoughts about this problem. It could be file contents
other than the meta tags, as some files with the avidemux meta tags do
play correctly under totem.

When AtomicParsley inserts or removes tags, it actually creates a new
file from the previous file. This process somehow removes what is
corrupting the original video file.

[Bug 486314] Re: tar throws up error when extracting file

2009-12-03 Thread Wei-Yee Chan
The problem is reproducible in my case, in the following way:

1. Download the truecrypt-6.3a-ubuntu-x64.tar.gz from
http://www.truecrypt.org/downloads
2. Extract the file using file-roller (right-click and choose extract, or
simply drag and drop onto any writeable directory).

The problem isn't with the truecrypt file, really. One could try it on
a self-made tar.gz file and it'd still throw up the same errors. Create
an empty file and make a tar.gz archive out of it. Following that,
attempt to extract it. The error window will pop up.

>From my observations, only tar.gz files are affected.

[Bug 491648] [NEW] Meta tags inserted by avidemux interfere with totem playback

2009-12-02 Thread Wei-Yee Chan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: avidemux

This problem has existed ever since avidemux started inserting weird
meta tags into encoded video files, i.e. many releases ago. They are as
follows:

chanwei...@raptor:~$ AtomicParsley "Evan Almighty.mp4" -t
Atom "©nam" contains: Evan Almighty.mp4
Atom "©ART" contains: Avidemux
Atom "©wrt" contains: Avidemux
Atom "©too" contains: Lavf52.37.0

In some files (usually long-playing ones), totem simply does not display
any video and audio becomes distorted. Playback is normal when using
mplayer.

Meta tags have to be stripped by AtomicParsley before the file can be
played back normally.

[Bug 420541] Re: gPodder 0.17.0 downloads text files

2009-11-23 Thread Wei-Yee Chan
Hi, just an update:

I'm testing Ubuntu 10.04 now, which comes with gpodder 2.0. I'm using
the same configuration directory (my Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04 share the
same home directory) and everything seems to be fine now. So, I can
confirm that this bug did exist in gpodder 0.17.0, which has been fixed
in gpodder 2.0.

[Bug 183056] Re: Micro-Star MS-6575 (Version 3.1) Corrupts Hardy Heron Bootup Partition

2009-09-20 Thread Wei-Yee Chan
Sorry for the late response. I have reason to believe that the board is
faulty.

The system threw up a blue screen of death when I tried to install
Windows XP on it. Note that this mobo is supposed to be able to run
Windows XP without a glitch.

I swapped the ram, changed the graphics card, CPU...etc and the problem
persisted.

As such, I think that it is likely a case of a faulty motherboard. Why
CentOS is capable of booting up on this system, I do not know, but I've
just found out that even when running CentOS, it isn't very stable.

I apologise for the trouble. You may close this now.

[Bug 330824] Re: Soft lockups (freezes) when deleting files from ext4 partitions on 2.6.28

2009-07-29 Thread Wei-Yee Chan
This sounds similar to a problem that I experienced yesterday.

I did a fresh installation of Ubuntu 9.04 recently and formatted every
partition to ext4. Yesterday, I was moving huge video files from my home
directory to a removable USB hard disk (formatted to ext4 as well) when
the system froze permanently (i.e. all hard disks stopped running
completely). I did this with a couple of my other removable USB hard
disks and the same thing happened many times.

The problem can be replicated by copying or moving files within the same
IDE hard disk as well. Just a while ago, the system froze when I emptied
Trash.

The computer has Windows XP installed, and no such problem problem
occurs when I'm running it.

However, as far as I know, I have not experienced any data loss.

With reference to a few of the comments made above, I have more than
40Gb on every partition at any time, so the locking up seems unrelated
to the amount of free hard disk space that one has.

Upgrading to kernel 2.6.24-4-generic (with another computer) removed the
corruption problem, but the OS is still unbootable.

[Bug 83922] Re: gdesklets does not start amd64

2008-01-12 Thread Wei-Yee Chan
It's been working for me ever since I upgraded to Gutsy Gibbon. I
thought it was an Intel-x86 vs AMD64 issue, but Christian has said that
like me, he's also using an Intel processor. Weird

I reported it as it concerned the gnome panel, as the title suggests. I
have noticed however, the accounts given by different people are quite
varied. My problem has been solved, so there's no point in reporting
the bug. If it has been ascertained that it's really a Compiz issue,
then I shall refrain from further comments.

The gnome panel hasn't crashed since, but I might just wanna add that
I'm now running Compiz, without any problems, as I speak. Anyway,
thanks - I'm out of this.

2007-10-26 Thread Wei-Yee Chan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 147943 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147943

The same thing happened to me after the updates and I wasn't even
running the compiz effects.

What I did was right-click on the desktop, created a launcher with
"xterm" as the command. Following that, I double-clicked on the
launcher to open a terminal window. Then I keyed in "gnome-panel" and
hit enter. The panel came right back on, in the same condition before
it disappeared. You'll only have to do this once.

2007-10-12 Thread Wei-Yee Chan
Christian, are you using an AMD 64 processor? I forgot to add that I'm
using an Intel Pentium M processor.

Now, I can't recall very clearly, but if I'm not wrong, the original bug
report that I filed was based on my Intel 32 bit processor and I got
transferred here when my report was marked as a duplicate of this one.

Just for your information, I had upgraded directly from a Feisty
installation. Feel free to contact me if you require further
information on my system.
