Re: [Bug 205960] Re: USB ports identified incorrectly.
Hello Luke, Thank you for taking the time to drop me this note. At the time I posted this bug problem, all kinds of random and strange things were happening. It turned out that the system power cord, was shorting out. I plugged in a new power cord and the problems were resolved. Thanks Again, WestCoast Luke Faraone wrote: Feisty is quite old. This was the debugging output from a successful k3b copy cd onto a cd rewriteable disk. Although this was a successful burn K3B debugging noted usr/bin/wodim: Operation not permitted. [Bug 251712] [NEW] Serpenting K3B will burn CD RW but no CD R disks.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cdrecord I have recently installed Ubuntu 7.10 in testing hardware I discovered my cd rw had mounting issues, permission issues, and writing issues. My CD RW would not burn data or audio to a CD R. It will however, burn to a CD RW. Media: Memorex and Verbatim CD R (52x 700 meg 80 min) disks failed every test to write to disk. Attempts were made to burn both data disks and audio disk to new CD-R's. All Serpentine and K3B attempts to burn a cd failed regardless of the format.I then attempted to burn on a rewritable disk. CD burned successfully on the first attempt. Memorex CD rewritable (12x 700 MB 80 min and 4x 700 MB 80 min) disks successfully recorded both data disk and audio disk. The cd burner would not burn even a single small data file to disk. So I tried to burn audio with the same result. The following is data taken during two attempts to burn audio to a CD-R disk. [Bug 252016] [NEW] Cannot burn to CD-R. Will only burn to CD-RW
Public bug reported: I recently installed Ubuntu 7.10. When I was testing the hardware to make sure everything was working okay, I noticed my CD-RW drive had issues. During test burn attempts, although this account has full Administrative rights, I was getting what appeared to be permission errors. I realized each failed attempt occurred during the 'writing' process, usually right when the burn process began. Media: Memorex and Verbatim CD R (52x 700 meg 80 min) disks failed every test (approx 40 attempts) to write to disk. Attempts were made to burn both data disks and audio disk with. All Serpentine and K3B attempts to burn a cd failed regardless of the format. It appears cdrecord is refusing the burn. Note: Serpentine failure result in the locking of the cd-rw drive. I was able to access the drive, or eject. I had to reboot in order to reset control of the cd-rw drive. I noticed that during each attempt the K3B Debugging Output showed the same output: Manufacturer: Moser Baer India Limited Manufacturer is guessed because of the orange forum embargo. The orange forum likes to get money for recent information. Does this mean theses CD-R's have a type of spyware on them? Does cdrecord or k3b see it as a bug and stops the burn process? I then attempted to burn on a rewritable disk. Although K3B Debugging Output showed the same output (as above) the CD burned successfully on the first attempt. Memorex CD rewritable (12x 700 MB 80 min and 4x 700 MB 80 min) disks successfully recorded both data disk and audio disk. Are these problems hardware issues, software issues, or configuration issues? [Bug 207484] [NEW] printer drivers offered by ubuntu doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp I have a Lexmark X5150 All in One printer. The driver that was configured for the printer when I installed Ubuntu doesn't work. I get a click noise and the connection stops. I located a linux driver for Lexmark 5000 on the print setup option with the same results. I've spent days searching help files, forums, etc searching for a resolution. I've even copied a few posted hardware command line tests to my 'may try file,' However, after having just read a newly posted warning about dangerous codes being posted on the forums and it scared the heck out of me. So until I am a bit more educated n Ubuntu language, I don't think I should try them. The fact is, I am at the point where I must have access to my printer. I have just located a driver offered on the Lexmark Websiste for the. However it is for Lexmark 5150 running on the Caldera OpenLinux operating system. I know nothing about the Caldera OpenLinux. So, before I tried the driver I thought I should ask if there could b a problem with trying it. [Bug 205960] [NEW] USB ports identified incorrectly.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal I am new at Ubuntu (Linux). As such I am not even sure if this is where I should report this. However, as Linux is said to be immune to 'bug' type virus' I can only assume the term 'bug' report is in reference to 'glitch.' If so, I believe this report may be appropriate. OS: Ubuntu (Feisty Fawn) 7.04 What I expected to happen: Since I had no external devices connected to the system at the time of install (except mouse, keyboard, and monitor) I assumed each hardware component would be identified and the appropriate drivers installed. As such I expected all (6) USB devices to be appropriately identified as USB 2.0 (s) One of which would be identified as an Enhanced USB 2.0 and all others as USB 2.0. I'd also assumed that if there was a configuration problem during the install I would be notified. I wasn't. What happened. I received no notification of any USB problems. The first device I attempted to configure was my printer. After installing the closest driver to my printer model, I ran a print test. The printer responded with an initial electrical surge, then stopped. It did not print. It did not respond to any other print commands. Other devices were also having problems so after making sure each device was mounted I checked Hardware Manager. Hardware Information showed an SIS961/2 SMBus Contoller and several hardware pieces as unidentified. It also showed this 3 SIS USB 1.0 Controllers and 1 SIS USB 2.0 controller. After much research ran the lsusb It appears that when Ubuntu loaded it may not have configured a few of my devices correctly. Among a few others devices it appears my USB ports may not have configured correctly. I have spent days searching Ubuntu's help pages, doing on line searches, reading articicles, searching for possible drivers, searching forum, I've even posted a request for help. I am at loss at how to correct this. I have (6) USB 2.0 ports on my system. There are (2) High speed USB 2.0 ports in the front of my system and (4) USB 2.0 ports in the back of my system. However it appears during the install, Ubuntu identified only 4 of my USB ports. (see the lsusb report below) Furthermore, 3 of the USB ports were identified as USB 1.0 instead of 2.0. The 4th USB port appears to have been identified twice: once as a 1.0 and again as a 2.0. Two USB ports weren't identified at all. the following is the command line results of a lsusb command [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsusb Bus 002 Device 001: ID : Bus 004 Device 001: ID : Bus 003 Device 002: ID 043d:0065 Lexmark International, Inc. Bus 003 Device 001: ID : Bus 001 Device 001: ID : [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ As you can see only it appears only 4 of my 6 USB ports are named. Also, the #3 port is named twice. Can you please tell me if this is a glitch in the install and how I might go about resolving the issue. Or, if this is not the right place to bring this issue up, what the right avenue is. Thank you for your time and assistance WestCost Note: Also I am new at to Linux. As such I have had a difficult time locating Linux/Ubuntu's perferred drivers for my hardware. If you know of a site where I can locate the varous needed drivers, I would greatly appreciate it.
