[Bug 827934] Re: colord crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2013-04-14 Thread Wilbert Volkers
The crash report comes up short after booting. I understand a fix is
released for later versions but I would like to stay with the LTS
version for now.

[Bug 888005] Re: Pidgin don't connect to hotmail

2012-01-13 Thread Wilbert Volkers
Same here:
- Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit
- Pidgin 2.7.11 (libpurple 2.7.11)

Pidging -> Accounts  -> @hotmail.com -> Open Hotmail Inbox -> Password
and/or login are incorrect

It seems that the URL that is created by Pidgin does not work anymore.

[Bug 569539] Re: qGo closes unexpectly when try to have a match against the computer

2010-11-15 Thread Wilbert Volkers
I had the same problem after a clean install of qGo, when going in the
menu to: Settings, Preferences, Computer Go. Then there is a path to the
"Go Engine" namely "/usr/games/gnugo" For me this was a non-existing
file. So I found and installed "gnugo": sudo apt-get install gnugo and
its working.

[Bug 446566] Re: Compiz not starting automatically on login

2010-05-31 Thread Wilbert Volkers
As a workaround I added compiz as startup APplication:
System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications -> Startup Programs -> Add ->
Command -> 'compiz --replace'. Maybe reinstall of the Hardware Drivers will
work. I'm not going to try this now, with 9.10 I replaced a module to have a
watermark 'unsupported hardware' removed (ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series).

[Bug 573587] Re: network not accessible after boot

2010-05-13 Thread Wilbert Volkers
The Live CD is not working, also when installing, it takes too long
(waiting for network response?) synchronizing the clock takes too long.
Sometimes keyboard and mouse don't work.

After upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04 I have the same problems as with a
clean install or as with booting the LIVE cd. Starting in recovery to
shell with networking I seem to have a network. Can someone say what can
disturb this connection when I boot fully? They are a lot of time-outs
in the log, anyone can help me with those?

Starting in recovery and then login it says:
"This CPU is family 15, model 3, and has NX capabilities but is unable to use
these protective features because the BIOS is configured to disable the
capability." While it is well known that this model (Socket 478, with most
recent BIOS) has no NX capabilities
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celeron#Prescott-256)

It is very difficult to get any information without a network and I can
imagine there are more people out there struggling and not able to
report this.

This is (of-the-shelf) a true catastrophe.

[Bug 573587] [NEW] network not accessible after boot

2010-05-02 Thread Wilbert Volkers
Public bug reported:

The network (including internet) is not accessible after a full boot with
automatic login. Ubuntu Lucid (x.x.21) was installed from USB stick / live CD.
I have the same behaviour when booting Ubuntu Lucid Live CD. Ubuntu Karmic on
the same machine does not have this problem (i have a dual boot system now).
When I boot into recovery mode as root I have network as I was able to run
'apt-get update' and file a bug with 'apport-cli -f -p linux' although I don't
know if the required information is in the report. The remainder of this report
was filled from an other machine.
DHCP gives a valid IP to the machine at boot.
Other problems occur with USB mouse not responding or Live CD not booting at
all, I can not say this is related as it occurs irregularly.

[Bug 500570] Re: Appearance "Visual Effects" settings lost across reboots and log out / log on

2010-03-25 Thread Wilbert Volkers
I installed the recommended ATI video driver and would get a watermark
"hardware not supported". Despite everything working (compiz) you can
imagine i was not really happy. In an attempt to have the watermark
removed i followed instructions to install the newest ATI driver
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI), that did
solve the watermark problem, however left me with the problem that is
mentioned here. So, not easily discouraged, found some remark about
replacing the file 'control'. With that change it seems to run smoothly
now, try at your own risk:

1. installed proprietary driver from System -> Administration ->
Harware driver
this will get me the 'unsupported hardware' watermark
2. downloaded newest driver from ATI (www.ati.com) and extract deb files
sudo sh ./ati-driver-installer-10-2-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg
Ubuntu/karmic
3. took the file 'control' from it with is somewhere in subarchives
 'xorg-driver-fglrx_*.deb/../etc/ati/'
4. used it to replace the file in /etc/ati/ (backup the original if you
like)
5. reboot

ununtu 9.10 64 bit, ati hd5770

2. unmount it

3. .. so we can format it

at all detected ISO's in stead of only the selected one
5. start usb-creator
usb-creator-gtk
6. select iso, make sure you dont have any 'difficult' characters in the path
7. create

[Bug 371296] Re: [R420] system freezes when starting openoffice writer

2009-08-02 Thread Wilbert Volkers
Thanks for the info! Now i was trying to get TV-out working with my ATI
X800 videocard, this was another bad idea. It also has a TV tuner which
i might try to get to work in an optimistic mood. So i decided to get me
an old Gforce 6200 (NVIDIA) for a few bucks. That fixes most problems.

[Bug 371296] Re: [R420] system freezes when starting openoffice writer

2009-07-11 Thread Wilbert Volkers
Thank you for the tips, these did not work for me unfortunately.
However, for now it seems to work when i add the following in xorg.conf
:

Section "Device"
Option "AGPMode" "4"
...

I followed tips mentioned on this page:
   https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Quirks

You can try values like 8 4 and 2, I have this problem when i use 8.
Lower values should result in lower performance but using glxgears i
dont see much difference.

Let us know if this works for you.

[Bug 366228] Re: sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart - doesn't work

2009-05-23 Thread Wilbert Volkers
I have the same thing here - running the command from within a gnome
terminal. If i go to a text terminal (with ctrl-alt-F6) and run the
command "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart" then it works perfectly. Probably
it can't kill itself.

How can i 'detach' this command from gnome so it can finish properly?

[Bug 371296] Re: system freezes when starting openoffice writer

2009-05-08 Thread Wilbert Volkers
Hi thanks for the try. I tried compiz off previously - no difference,
xorg.conf is already there (2009-05-05), device section looks now like:

  Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "ati"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "NoAccel" "true"
  EndSection

oowriter works with this setting. We know a bit more now. I added lspci-
vvnn.log

[Bug 371296] Re: system freezes when starting openoffice writer

2009-05-07 Thread Wilbert Volkers
Thanks for the help so far, to test your classification
"xserver-xorg-video-ati" i edited xorg.conf:
Section "Device"
Driver "vesa" # changed from value "ati" to "vesa"
  ...

After this change restarted x windows and open office writer worked
perfectly. There are no related problems in any of the other tools i
use, but all of the openoffice.org tools seem to freeze x windows at
some point. That makes me wonder what is different in openoffice in
relation to the ati driver.

[Bug 371296] Re: system freezes when starting openoffice writer

2009-05-04 Thread Wilbert Volkers
Thanks for the response. Yes i tried that. Also did remove & install :
  sudo apt-get remove openoffice.org*
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get autoremove
  mv ~/.openoffice.org* ~/remove_openoffice.org
  sudo apt-get install openoffice.org
  oowriter

Then i see the same thing. I think it is an X Windows related problem,
no response pressing any terminal keys (CTRL+ALT+Fn) and can't restart X
Windows with (ALT+SYSRQ+K) however, doing that i see it picks up the
keypress (normally the background color changes a bit when i restart X)
the screen stays and the mouse is frozen as well.

Tried with Compiz disabled - same result. Maybe i can add some logfile?
Please let me know.

I've also updated from 8.10 to 9.04, and i have java6 installed. It will
still not work because the path to the java executable has changed. To
fix it:

$ sudo gedit /usr/bin/azureus

change

JAVA='/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java -Xmx1024M'

to

JAVA='/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java -Xmx1024M'

[Bug 334144] Re: [Intrepid AMD64] lirc daemon fails to load at startup

2009-04-13 Thread Wilbert Volkers
It seems to work fine after i added the line "sleep 1" directly after
"modprobe" in "/etc/init.d/lirc".
In my case sometimes it would start-up so i reasoned that maybe it needs a bit
more time. Let me know if this really is a bad idea.
