[Bug 573587] Re: network not accessible after boot
The Live CD is not working, also when installing, it takes too long (waiting for network response?) synchronizing the clock takes too long. Sometimes keyboard and mouse don't work. After upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04 I have the same problems as with a clean install or as with booting the LIVE cd. Starting in recovery to shell with networking I seem to have a network. Can someone say what can disturb this connection when I boot fully? They are a lot of time-outs in the log, anyone can help me with those? Starting in recovery and then login it says: "This CPU is family 15, model 3, and has NX capabilities but is unable to use these protective features because the BIOS is configured to disable the capability." While it is well known that this model (Socket 478, with most recent BIOS) has no NX capabilities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celeron#Prescott-256) It is very difficult to get any information without a network and I can imagine there are more people out there struggling and not able to report this. [Bug 573587] [NEW] network not accessible after boot
Public bug reported: The network (including internet) is not accessible after a full boot with automatic login. Ubuntu Lucid (x.x.21) was installed from USB stick / live CD. I have the same behaviour when booting Ubuntu Lucid Live CD. Ubuntu Karmic on the same machine does not have this problem (i have a dual boot system now). When I boot into recovery mode as root I have network as I was able to run 'apt-get update' and file a bug with 'apport-cli -f -p linux' although I don't know if the required information is in the report. The remainder of this report was filled from an other machine. DHCP gives a valid IP to the machine at boot. Other problems occur with USB mouse not responding or Live CD not booting at all, I can not say this is related as it occurs irregularly. [Bug 500570] Re: Appearance "Visual Effects" settings lost across reboots and log out / log on
I installed the recommended ATI video driver and would get a watermark "hardware not supported". Despite everything working (compiz) you can imagine i was not really happy. In an attempt to have the watermark removed i followed instructions to install the newest ATI driver (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI), that did solve the watermark problem, however left me with the problem that is mentioned here. So, not easily discouraged, found some remark about replacing the file 'control'. With that change it seems to run smoothly now, try at your own risk: 1. installed proprietary driver from System -> Administration -> Harware driver this will get me the 'unsupported hardware' watermark 2. downloaded newest driver from ATI (www.ati.com) and extract deb files sudo sh ./ati-driver-installer-10-2-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/karmic 3. took the file 'control' from it with is somewhere in subarchives 'xorg-driver-fglrx_*.deb/../etc/ati/' 4. used it to replace the file in /etc/ati/ (backup the original if you like) 5. reboot ununtu 9.10 64 bit, ati hd5770 -- Appearance "Visual Effects" settings lost across reboots and log out / log on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500570 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 371296] Re: system freezes when starting openoffice writer
Hi thanks for the try. I tried compiz off previously - no difference, xorg.conf is already there (2009-05-05), device section looks now like: Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Driver "ati" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Option "NoAccel" "true" EndSection oowriter works with this setting. We know a bit more now. I added lspci- vvnn.log ** Attachment added: "lspci-vvnn.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26477970/lspci-vvnn.log -- system freezes when starting openoffice writer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371296 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 371296] Re: system freezes when starting openoffice writer
Thanks for the help so far, to test your classification "xserver-xorg-video-ati" i edited xorg.conf: Section "Device" Driver "vesa" # changed from value "ati" to "vesa" ... After this change restarted x windows and open office writer worked perfectly. There are no related problems in any of the other tools i use, but all of the openoffice.org tools seem to freeze x windows at some point. That makes me wonder what is different in openoffice in relation to the ati driver. -- system freezes when starting openoffice writer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/371296 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

No it really says Parameters (screenshot). [Bug 371296] Re: system freezes when starting openoffice writer
Thanks for the response. Yes i tried that. Also did remove & install : sudo apt-get remove openoffice.org* sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get autoremove mv ~/.openoffice.org* ~/remove_openoffice.org sudo apt-get install openoffice.org oowriter Then i see the same thing. I think it is an X Windows related problem, no response pressing any terminal keys (CTRL+ALT+Fn) and can't restart X Windows with (ALT+SYSRQ+K) however, doing that i see it picks up the keypress (normally the background color changes a bit when i restart X) the screen stays and the mouse is frozen as well. Tried with Compiz disabled - same result. Maybe i can add some logfile? [Bug 296880] Re: Vuze won't launch if default Java is not Java 6
I've also updated from 8.10 to 9.04, and i have java6 installed. It will still not work because the path to the java executable has changed. To fix it: $ sudo gedit /usr/bin/azureus change JAVA='/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java -Xmx1024M' to JAVA='/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java -Xmx1024M' -- Vuze won't launch if default Java is not Java 6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/296880 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 334144] Re: [Intrepid AMD64] lirc daemon fails to load at startup
It seems to work fine after i added the line "sleep 1" directly after "modprobe" in "/etc/init.d/lirc". In my case sometimes it would start-up so i reasoned that maybe it needs a bit more time. Let me know if this really is a bad idea. -- [Intrepid AMD64] lirc daemon fails to load at startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/334144 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
