[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-08-20 Thread Willy Nolan
Totally makes sense. It's just too bad as Microsoft Windows had this
figured out several years ago. I want to do more than complain. I want
to help fix this mess.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-08-19 Thread Willy Nolan
This mess just goes on and on and on.

Can somebody provide an update on:

- What work is being done to get fractional scaling working on Ubuntu with
nVidia cards?
- How someone who wants to help fix this required basic functionality would do
so?

I don't think that read >170 posts just to scale a GUI is a good
experience for users. It is unclear who is a user and who is actually
an authority on the topic.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-08-14 Thread Willy Nolan
Daniel van Vugt: @vanvugt:
It is safe to say that, when using Nvidia drivers, the fractional scaling is
completely broken.

- You can't set the scale differently on different monitors (basic
functionality)
- The fractional scaling doesn't work at all (even if you set it to be the same
for both or multiple monitors)

There are several (almost 50) different hardware configurations having
this issue and there are several "workarounds" all of which have their
own issues.

This is an extremely basic functionality and something that is needed as
I have read that *the most common* way to work right now is a laptop
with one external display. If using Nvidia drivers, that setup does not
work.

Can you tell me how to get involved or what I can do to get this
working? It has been several months and I'd like to solve this problem.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-08-01 Thread Willy Nolan
Hi,
I can't use fractional scaling at all. When I enable it from the Settings in
Gnome it just loads for a while (flickering black screen) and then reverts to
Single Display. Switching back to Join Displays does nothing and I have to
unplug and plug the external monitor back in.

I am using "Nvidia Driver metapackage nvidia-driver-450" and "Ubuntu 20.04.1
LTS"
I have a RTX 2080

I am using a laptop with a 4K monitor and an external 4K monitor that is
larger, so obviously I'd love to set different fractional scaling values
per monitor but would settle for setting 150% for both.

This seems like a common use case. Please let me know how I can help.

[Bug 1770948] Re: Mouse cursor size is large and inconsistent on 4K displays in XFCE

2019-11-17 Thread Willy Nolan
Is this the same issue?

I have a 4k display and my laptop's builtin 1920x1080 display.

I have to use lightdm because my external monitor was not working with
GDM.

When I don't click on anything my cursor is large and white in color like this:
https://i.ibb.co/7zdLx51/cursor-big.png

When I click it gets smaller and turns black like this:
https://i.ibb.co/zGx025X/cursor-normal.png

This happens regardless of the screen I am using at the time.

[Bug 882942] Re: NaCL is missing

2017-09-17 Thread Willy Nolan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1462647 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1462647

So I am unclear: Is there any way to get Native Client to work with
Chromium?

Most information on the internet (for one example
https://askubuntu.com/questions/91789/why-is-nacl-disabled-for-chromium)
makes it seem like it doesn't work.

If I install it from the Beta channel than Native Client will work but
Google Sync will not?
