@pieleric: I confirm it has gotten worse in 13.10. [Bug 674868] [NEW] [time-admin] ntp server selection should not suggest stratum 1 servers
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools In the Time and Date configuration window (documented on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuTime), the servers suggested in the Time server window is inadequate. Many of the servers suggested are stratum 1 servers (for servers around Switzerland for instance I found out ntps1-0.cs.tu-berlin.de, ntps1-1.cs .tu-berlin.de, ntps1-2.uni-erlangen.de, canon.inria.fr, chronos.cru.fr, ntp.cesnet.cz, time.ien.it, ntp0.nl.net and ntp1.nl.net to be stratum 1). Stratum 1 servers are servers directly connected to a reference clock. Stratum 1 time servers should be used only by stratum 2 time servers (serving a large number of clients and / or stratum 3 servers). Stratum 1 servers should not be used by terminal clients (see http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/RulesOfEngagement) and should not be advertised in the server selection window. Failing to do so will increase stratum 1 servers load and consequently reduce their availability, reducing the accuracy of the whole system. Stratum 1 servers should be detected, removed from this selection window, and replaced by stratum 2 (or even 3) servers which are good enough for most cases. Ideally the NTP pool should be used (see bug #104525). ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: time-admin -- [time-admin] ntp server selection should not suggest stratum 1 servers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/674868 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 477206] Re: gnome-panel indicator-applet crashed with SIGSEGV in calloc()
Sorry for the delay: my mail provider was down and I didn't receive the notifications. This crash happened again today. I'd be glad to provide Valgrind data, but I have two problems: - The crash happens on startup, before I can launch Valgrind. - I don't know which command to run to start the indicator-applet from valgrind. Should I kill and reload gnome-panel? I tried that but it automatically restarts before I can launch it again with Valgrind. [Bug 432876] Re: Icons missing in Firefox searchbox drop down list (karmic)
There are basically two ways of fixing this bug. 1) As stated before, under System - Preferences - Appearance check Show icons in menus. After restarting Firefox, the icons should be there again. 2) If you don't want the icons in other applications, and you feel they are missing only in Firefox search bar, install the Stylish extension [1] and add the following as a new style: #search-popupset .menu-iconic-left { visibility: visible!important; } note: remove #search-popupset if you want the icons in all Firefox menus. I believe this is a bug in Firefox, which should be reported upstream. Firefox should display these icons even if Show icons in menus is unchecked. Probably the test window wasn't large enough, but x11perf doesn't provide a larger test. No, as stated before only rhythmbox is affected. Totem, Listen, VLC are fine. If I play sounds at the same time in rhythmbox and totem, totem continues to play even when rhythmbox is stopped. Also if ALSA is used instead of PulseAudio, the bug persist. [Bug 193578] Re: Scrolling Firefox interrupts Rhythmbox audio
I can see the same problem here. I have got an AMD athlon 64x2 (duo core)@2.2GHz, 2Gio RAM and 2Gio swap. Motherboard is an Asus M2N DH with an integrated HDA sound chipset from nvidia. Graphic card is a nvidia geforce 7300 GS. Ubuntu version is Intrepid 64bits. The reproducibility is very problematic. You need a heavy page where firefox is slow to scroll in the first place. For example, a page on deviant art (eg. http://brute-ua.deviantart.com/art/Take-a-seat-81523879 ) with the collect banner opened (may be available only when you're logged in). Then you have to seize the scrollbar and swing your mouse up and down violently (ie you have to go really top to bottom and back to top again), several times (that can be twice, or 10 times depending on your luck) and very fast (don't wait for the bottom of the page to display before you're already on top and bottom again, preferably several times). I don't think scrolling with the mouse wheel is sufficient to trigger any sound interruption. This isn't a normal use of Firefox, but it is needed to reproduce the problem. For a normal-use, you need to be loading several tabs in Firefox, and switch tab or scoll down rapidly in a long loading page, or maximize-minimize Firefox quickly, or most likely several of these (ie. quickly scrolling down a heavy loading page with several other tabs loading in the background and then double-click on the Firefox icon in the taskbar to minimize and maximize Firefox, all that in less than 1 second or so). Even so, I don't see this bug more than once or twice a day. I cannot reproduce it on lighter pages. A fixed element is recommended, if possible transparent) Even a javascript test such as the Acid3 test (http://acid3.acidtests.org/) or the sunspider test (http://www2.webkit.org/perf/sunspider-0.9/sunspider.html ) doesn't trigger a sound interruption. I guess that owner of faster computers need to find even worse test cases to be able to reproduce it. Also I should precise that it is better to work in full screen (preferably with a big one, 1600x1200 for me, and with F11 fullscreen on) rather than with a smaller Firefox window. If I resize Firefox to use only half of the horizontal space (around 600px) I'm not able to hear any sound interruption. Running a heavy benchmark such as one in hardinfo doesn't stop sound, nor does sound encoding with SoundConverter (using 2 procs.). To the contrary, I would say it was easier to make firefox interrupt sound when the system isn't doing any other computation. With sound converter working, Firefox scrolls slower but doesn't interrupt the sound anymore. Stopping compiz and using metacity instead (System Preferences Appearance setting no visual effect) doesn't completely prevent sound interruption. Actually it doesn't even seem to reduce the problem. I tried to use Alsa instead of pulseaudio as proposed above. This didn't reduce the problem. I also tried to renice rhythmbox process (with sudo renice 15) but that didn't change anything. Only enabling crossfading (seemingly) completely stopped sound interruption. If I look at a terminal with top running when the problem occurs, I can see that Xorg is around 50% CPU and Firefox around 30%. Finally I don't think it is related to the sound server. If I play in another player such as Totem or Listen, it isn't interrupted. If I play two sounds, one in rhythmbox and one in totem, and then I scroll in Firefox, only rhythmbox's playing is interrupted, and I hear only the sound played in totem. So I believe that could be a problem of concurrence between Xorg and rhytmbox, triggered by Firefox. -- Scrolling Firefox interrupts Rhythmbox audio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/193578 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This time it was successful. I should note that the /home from which I was trying to import data was the same as the new home, so that may be the source of the problem (importing data from/to the same place) (this home located in /dev/sdb6 is now shared by an ubuntu 8.04 32bits on /dev/sda2 and by my new install of Intrepid 8.10 on /dev/sdb1).
