[Bug 2061747] Re: obsolete out-of-tree ivsc dkms in favor of in-tree one

2024-07-08 Thread You-Sheng Yang
There has been an new update to the ipu6-drivers versioned
0~git202406240945.aecec2aa-0ubuntu1 for 24.10 Oracular and
0~git202406240945.aecec2aa-0ubuntu1~24.04.1 as a no-change-backport to
24.04 mainly for bug 2067364 as well as fixes for bug 2070251 and bug
2060101. The dkms packages were taken to build kernels now in -proposed
pocket, which have received stress tests by multiple parties.

The verified -proposed kernels are:
* linux-oem-6.5/jammy version 6.5.0-1026.27
* linux-oem-6.8/noble version 6.8.0-1008.8

There are more covered by other parties, but the platforms being used to verify
by Ubuntu side are:
* TRBM-DVT2-C3 (mtl, vsc, ov02c10)
* Lenovo (usbio, ov08x40
* Dell 9420 (TGL, non-CVF, ov01a1s)
* OAS4-DVT2-C1 (RPL, vsc, hi556)

Experimental kernels carrying the same fixes inclusive of linux/noble,
linux-oem-6.10/noble and linux-unstable/noble, are also tested.

[Bug 2071698] Re: Integrated Sensor Hub (ISH) support for Intel Luna Lake platform

2024-07-03 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Per https://docs.kernel.org/hid/intel-ish-hid.html:

> Starting from the Lunar Lake generation, the ISH firmware has been
divided into two components for better space optimization and increased
flexibility. These components include a bootloader that is integrated
into the BIOS, and a main firmware that is stored within the operating
system’s file system.

To figure out the right method/process for landing both generic and oem-
specific ish firmware.

[Bug 2071771] Re: Missing firmware for Intel NPU driver on Intel Lunar Lake platform: Failed to request firmware: -2

2024-07-03 Thread You-Sheng Yang
v6.6-rc1 commit 9ab43e95f922e ("accel/ivpu: Switch to generation based
FW names") obsoleted firmware path `intel/vpu/mtl_vpu_v0.0.bin` in favor
of either `mtl_vpu.bin` or `intel/vpu/vpu_37xx_v0.0.bin`. The former is
then again obsoleted by v6.9-rc1 commit 575fcdd3cfd43 ("accel/ivpu:
Remove legacy firmware name").

[Bug 2046871] Re: migrate to upstream release/coreNN branch

2024-06-30 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Resubmit debdiffs for oracular and noble built against latest core88.
While Noble is to receive oem-6.1x, fixed builds against v6.10 kernels
as well. Also bumped OBSOLETE_BY to 6.11 for main 6.10 has UCODE API
90, this has 91, and iwlwifi in netdev-next has 92.

Updated debian version as indicated in comment #3.

While this updates the original tarball, it's also submitted to PPA
https://launchpad.net/~vicamo/+archive/ubuntu/ppa-2046871.

[Bug 2060101] Re: Enable OV08X40 camera sensor for Intel MTL IPU6 MIPI Camera

2024-06-25 Thread You-Sheng Yang
linux/oracular is still at 6.8.

** Description changed:

- TBD.
+ [SRU Justification]
+
+ BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2060101
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ ov08x40 camera sensor is not working on IPU6 platforms.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ A few changes from upstream kernel as well as a not yet upstreamed patch in
the Intel ipu6-drivers GitHub repo.
+ * commit b1a42fde ("media: ov08x40: Avoid sensor probing in D0 state")
+ * commit eea8f730 ("media: ov08x40: Modify the tline calculation in different
modes")
+ *
https://github.com/intel/ipu6-drivers/blob/Release_20240624/patch/v6.8/0001-media-ov08x40-Add-Tline-calculation-and-handshake-pi.patch
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ The proposed kernel should have been built along with the updated
+ ipu6-drivers dkms. To verify ipu6-drivers alone, one will need
+ experimental kernels from https://launchpad.net/~canonical-hwe-
+ team/+archive/ubuntu/intermediate-kernel.
+
+ Here are steps for verifying kernels from -proposed pocket:
+
+ 1. test camera after rebooting into a proposed kernel,
+ 2. run suspend/resume stress test plan.
+ 3. verify camera still working
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ These fixes are quite limited to ipu6/ivsc platforms, and affected no
+ power-consumption or other noticible problem.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ The fixing commits/patches were meant for in-tree driver, but yet it
+ changes device power up sequence and may affect platforms not interested
+ in IPU6 enablement. It is then duplicated into ipu6-drivers dkms to
+ avoid any unexpected side effect.
+
+ While some of the fixes are still under upstream review, meaning they're
+ not yet available in any kernel release, linux-unstable/oracular/noble
+ and oem-6.8/6.1x will be nominated for a rebuild against new dkms.

** Description changed:

  [SRU Justification]

  BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2067364

  [Impact]

With IVSC switched to in-tree driver since 6.8 kernels in bug 2061747,
it's still suffering from various problems that blocks camera driver
  stack being loaded correctly.

The ivsc-ace driver may fail to communicate with the underlying firmware with
error messages:
- ```
- ivsc_ace intel_vsc-5db76cf6-0a68-4ed6-9b78-0361635e2447: switch camera to
host failed: -110
- ```

host failed: -110
+   ```
This happens after warm reboots. In addition, ivs may block suspend resume,
too.

  [Fix]

These symptoms are to be addressed by upstream reviewing patchsets:

suspend/resume") from v6.10-rc4

[Bug 2070251] Re: failed to probe camera sensor on Dell XPS 9315: ov01a10 i2c-OVTI01A0:00: failed to check hwcfg: -22

2024-06-25 Thread You-Sheng Yang
SRU:
* https://kernel.ubuntu.com/gitea/kernel/noble-linux-oem/pulls/14 (oem-6.8)
* https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2024-June/151740.html (noble)

** Description changed:

+ [SRU Justification]
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ Multiple early IPU6 platforms may not have formal MIPI DisCo data
+ embedded in ACPI, and they may confuse latter driver and fail device
+ probing:
+
+ ov01a10 i2c-OVTI01A0:00: can't get clock frequency
+ ov01a10 i2c-OVTI01A0:00: failed to check hwcfg: -22
+ ov01a10: probe of i2c-OVTI01A0:00 failed with error -22
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ A few commits from mainline kernel up to v6.10-rc5.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Camera sensor device should then be probed correctly.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ These fixes are based on MIPI DisCo support that is only available since
+ v6.8. For older kernels, the ipu6-drivers either has no hwcfg checking
+ implemented, or patched with DMI info to skip it.
+

[Bug 1988887] Re: Missing build dependency

2024-06-01 Thread Boyuan Yang
As far as I know, package python3-importlib-resources is not needed as
long as the python version is 3.9 or later. As a result, it shall not be
an issue with the recently-released Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and the ongoing
development.

Since packages are build automatically using the automated environment,
having built package present means that the build-dependency is
satisfied at the time of package build. As a result, I consider your bug
report here to be invalid.

If you find out that the build will indeed fail on a certain previously-
released Ubuntu version, please feel free to make further comments and
reopen this bug. For now, I am marking this bug report as invalid since
it does not contain necessary information for me to reproduce this bug.

+ [Impact]
+
+ Newer VBIOS on DCN 3.5 bumped the version of IntegratedInfo table from
+ 2.2 to 2.3. This version uses same structure. Version 2.3 is missing
+ from the construct_integrated_info() parser, so it leads to NULL pointer

+
+ [Fix]
+
+ Fix landed to upstream v6.9-rc7: 9a35d205f466 ("drm/amd/display: Atom
+ Integrated System Info v2_2 for DCN35")
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ AMDGPU should then be initialized successfully without NULL pointer
+ deref dump at boot.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ No. New hardware revision with same data only.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ While this has been landed to v6.9-rc7, expect every kernel version
+ older than that with planned support to the new VBIOS update should be
+ fixed. So far linux/noble and linux-oem-6.8/noble are nominated by chip
+ vendor.

[Bug 2066233] [NEW] amdgpu hangs on DCN 3.5 at bootup: RIP: 0010:dcn35_clk_mgr_construct+0x183/0x2210 [amdgpu]

2024-05-21 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Public bug reported:

Newer VBIOS on DCN 3.5 bumped the version of IntegratedInfo table from
2.2 to 2.3. This version uses same structure. Version 2.3 is missing
from the construct_integrated_info() parser, so it leads to NULL pointer
dereference.

Fix landed to upstream v6.9-rc7: 9a35d205f466 ("drm/amd/display: Atom
Integrated System Info v2_2 for DCN35")
