[Bug 1878780] [NEW] [PATCH] hddtemp reports drive name incorrectly

2020-05-15 Thread Yura Pakhuchiy
Public bug reported:

hddtemp reports drive name incorrectly for some drives:

$ sudo hddtemp /dev/sda
/dev/sda: KINGSTON RBU-SC100S37128DG : 37°C

Note extra spaces and garbage characters before colon. This is not only minor
cosmetic issue, but breaks some gnome-shell plugins for HDD temperature
reporting. I've found a patch included into Fedora which fixes the issue:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1061649

hddtemp output is correct with the patch applied:

$ sudo hddtemp /dev/sda
/dev/sda: KINGSTON RBU-SC100S37128GD: 37°C

Patched package is available in my ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~yura-p/+archive/ubuntu/tests

[Bug 1845046] Re: Bluetooth headphones/speaker such as Sony WH-1000XM3 default to low quality headset mode and fails to switch to A2DP when selected

2020-01-01 Thread Yura Pakhuchiy
BTW, just applying this patch[1] to bluez package from 18.04 fixes the
a2dp problem for me with Sony WH-CH700N headphones. Patch applies
cleanly to 5.48.

lspci no longer shows "Intel Corporation Wireless 7260" entry on my
system. So I guess it is a hardware problem. Funny thing that bluetooth
which is located on the same chip still works.

In my case crash can happen on freshly booted system as well. And it is
more likely to happen when I'm using Wi-Fi actively, although it
sometimes happens even if I barely use Wi-Fi (eg. I'm connected via
ethernet cable and Wi-Fi at the same time and routing is configured to
use the cable).

@berend have you tried replacing the card?

I've grepped through dmesg and journalctl there is zero messages about
temperature from iwlwifi in my case. I've some from CPU, but they are

2018-09-29 Thread Yura Pakhuchiy
I've tested with mainline kernel and it is crashes as well. Also I've
tried booting previous Ubuntu releases (4.15.0-20-generic,
4.15.0-29-generic, 4.15.0-32-generic, 4.15.0-33-generic) and bug happens
with all of them. This is strange because I've used these kernels
without any problems for months. Wi-Fi worked extremely stable until
problem recently appeared. So looks like bug was present for long time,
however it have not manifested itself. But some non-kernel update
uncovered it.

Bug is pretty severe on my system, it happens in few minutes of active
Wi-Fi usage (eg. open speedtest.net and run it for few times). If I do
not use Wi-Fi at maximum speed it (eg. just listening online radio) it
may work for hours.

Log from mainline kernel:

how to proceed? Does anyone know when 4.14 becomes recommended?

[Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)

2016-09-23 Thread Yura Nosenko
Guys, the patch from Joakim did work for me!
It turns out all I needed after installing pulseaudio suite from Joakim's PPA
is:
pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover
I'm pretty sure I have tried it before I applied the PPA and it didn't work.
Since there was no mention of it in this conversation until recently, I totally
forgot to check it.
Thanks everyone! I will try to figure out now if it's possible to connect 2
Jaybird devices simultaneously. It works like a charm on Mac.

[Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)

2016-09-19 Thread Yura Nosenko
Luke, based on a comment from Sajan:
"Jaybird X can pair, and when it connects, it disconnects within 3 seconds.
With the Jaybird, it even notifies me with the successful connection, but
disconnects a couple seconds later."
I have an exact same issue.
Joakim confirmed that the behaviour was similar for him.
My syslog says:
bluetoothd[1034]: message repeated 6 times: [ a2dp-sink profile connect failed
for 44:5E:F3:C2:C7:8C: Protocol not available]
Do you think it's a different issue? Should I report it separate.

[Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)

2016-09-17 Thread Yura Nosenko
Guys, I have tried to install Joakim's debs in the past but it didn't work for
me. I wanted to uninstall/purge the old once I installed and try it one more
time from scratch using a new PPA.
Since I relatively new to Ubuntu, can you recommend on how to properly do that
without compromising the whole OS?
sudo apt-get purge "all 7 packages one by one"
Is this the preferred way? Since it's apt-get it will remove a lot of dependent
packages. Is it safe to do? Will the PPA install them back if required?
Can I purge all 7 packages with one command?
Example of apt-get purge:
yuranos@yuranos-XPS-15-9550:~$ sudo apt-get purge libpulse0

[Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)

2016-09-14 Thread Yura Nosenko
Joakim, sure I removed and re-paired the device. I also tried it with 2
identical devices and the issue is reproducible for both of them.
My syslog: bluetoothd[3172]: a2dp-sink profile connect failed for
44:5E:F3:BD:87:41: Protocol not available
That can probably happen in pulseaudio-module-bluetooth absence, but it's not
the case.

[Bug 1574324] Re: pulseaudio crashes when connecting to bluetooth headphones (due to ubuntu changes?)

2016-09-13 Thread Yura Nosenko
Hi, guys! I was also trying to apply the packages from Joakim. By the way, he
was really helpful with giving some advice and providing both i386 and amd64
packs. Thanks!
However, I am still failing to connect my Jaybird X2. They are disconnected a
couple of second after the connection.
My pulseaudio packages are as follows:
yuranos@yuranos-XPS-15-9550:~$ dpkg -l | grep -e 'pulseaudio' -e 'libpulse'
ii gstreamer1.0-pulseaudio:amd64 1.8.2-1ubuntu0.1
amd64GStreamer plugin for PulseAudio
ii libpulse-mainloop-glib0:amd64 1:8.0-0ubuntu3-vooze
amd64PulseAudio client libraries (glib
support)
ii libpulse0:amd64 1:8.0-0ubuntu3-vooze
amd64PulseAudio client libraries
ii libpulse0:i386 1:8.0-0ubuntu3-vooze
i386 PulseAudio client libraries
ii libpulsedsp:amd64 1:8.0-0ubuntu3-vooze
amd64PulseAudio OSS pre-load library
ii pulseaudio 1:8.0-0ubuntu3-vooze
amd64PulseAudio sound server
ii pulseaudio-module-bluetooth 1:8.0-0ubuntu3-vooze
amd64Bluetooth module for PulseAudio sound
server
ii pulseaudio-module-x11 1:8.0-0ubuntu3-vooze
amd64X11 module for PulseAudio sound server
ii pulseaudio-utils1:8.0-0ubuntu3-vooze
amd64Command line tools for the PulseAudio
sound server

Any thoughts? Am I missing something or is there some other issue that
is not fixed by the patch?

Hi Richard,

I do not use Precise anymore, so I do not know whether this bug still
present. But this problem was present only in 3.2 kernel. MTU always
worked fine with 3.5 kernel, Pricese and Trusty. Your logs indicate that
it was probably fixed in 3.2 kernel as well.

[Bug 1397142] Re: Sony SRS-BTM8 play/pause key not fully effective in Rhythmbox or Banshee

2015-07-14 Thread Yura
I think I have the same problem with Sony SBH20, Ubuntu 15.04, kernel
4.0.4

Device is paired and bluetooth buttons detectable in System Setings -
Keyboard - Shortcuts - Sound and Media

* Previous Track detected as Audio previous and working as expected in all
apps
* Next track detectable as Audio next and working as expected in all apps

* Play (or play/pause) detectable as Audio play, but does not stop
resume playback in all apps

Working apps:
1. Totem Movie Player
2. Spotify, but only if you click twice

Not working apps:
1. Pithos (pandora app for linux)
2. Chrome or FireFox (this is maybe app specific problem)
3. Rhythmbox

I would like to add that all apps (except chrome and firefox) are working with
the keyboard pause/resume media key.
Question: who knows the flow of key events, please suggest how to debug this
problem?

Here is output from xev for bluetooth pause/resume key

[Bug 1315434] Re: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged

2014-10-10 Thread Yura
+1 to support Matthew's comment.

I'm using my laptop a lot and to avoid pain in my wrist, I'm using BT
vertical mouse and the mouse battery status is important for me...

Also, Ubuntu (more specifically user interface) is getting better and
better, that now my wife, son (12 years old) and my MOTHER IN LAW are
using it without big problems on their laptops. And I think that for
them Matthew's idea will be more understandable and welcome.

At the same time to support use case for heavily tech users, I would
recommend adding a config file to override the default behaviour to
allow setup of specific behaviours.

In this case, from my personal opinion, Ubuntu/Linux can create the
unique opportunities to serve needs of average/normal and heavily tech
users.

Matthew, thank you once again for your willing and efforts to make
Ubuntu/Linux more user friendly, and hope you will not forget about tech
users with their needs.

Oh, really? I think appreciate tag would be developer-emulating-work.
Anyone can check that problem with ubuntu kernel 3.2 on every system,
independently of hw configuration and bios version. More over, problem
is fixed upstream.

I'm pretty sure this problem is not depends on hardware. I tried not
only on mine laptop, but on several servers with different hardware
configurations. You can run attached script and will see that it happens
on your system too (if you are running ubuntu kernel 3.2).

** Description changed:

  Hello,

Looks like setting per route mtu (as described in [1]) is broken in linux
kernel 3.2 (default kernel from ubuntu 12.04).
I made script to illustrate this:

  root@germany7:~# cat route-mtu
  #!/bin/bash

  uname -a
ip tuntap add dev test mode tun
  ifconfig test 10.1.1.1/16 mtu 1500
  echo =
echo No per route mtu entry
  ping -c1 -Mdo -s2000 10.1.1.2
  echo =
echo Per route MTU is set to 800
ip route add 10.1.1.2 dev test proto static src 10.1.1.1 mtu lock 800
  ip route flush cache
  ping -c1 -Mdo -s2000 10.1.1.2
ip route del 10.1.1.2 dev test proto static src 10.1.1.1 mtu lock 800
  echo =
echo Per route MTU is set to 600
ip route add 10.1.1.2 dev test proto static src 10.1.1.1 mtu lock 600
  ip route flush cache
  ping -c1 -Mdo -s2000 10.1.1.2
ip route del 10.1.1.2 dev test proto static src 10.1.1.1 mtu lock 600
  echo =
echo No per route mtu entry
  ip route flush cache
  ping -c1 -Mdo -s2000 10.1.1.2
ip tuntap del dev test mode tun

With kernel 3.2 I get following output:
  Linux germany7 3.2.0-41-generic-pae #66-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 25 03:50:20 UTC

After once set to 800, MTU is always 800, even if you add different
  route and clean routing cache.

It looks like that problem is fixed in ubuntu kernel 3.5. With it, everything
works like expected:
  root@germany7:~# ./route-mtu

I also tested with kernels 2.6.35 (in lucid) and 3.8 (in precise),
  results are same to 3.5.

Is there any chance to get fixes from 3.5/3.8 backported to the default
  precise kernel 3.2?

[Bug 1177507] [NEW] per route mtu settings are broken in linux kernel 3.2

2013-05-07 Thread Yura Pakhuchiy
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Looks like setting per route mtu (as described in [1]) is broken in linux
kernel 3.2 (default kernel from ubuntu 12.04).
I made script to illustrate this:

root@germany7:~# cat route-mtu
#!/bin/bash

uname -a
ip tuntap add dev test mode tun
ifconfig test 10.1.1.1/16 mtu 1500
echo =
echo No per route mtu entry
ping -c1 -Mdo -s2000 10.1.1.2
echo =
echo Per route MTU is set to 800
ip route add 10.1.1.2 dev test proto static src 10.1.1.1 mtu lock 800
ip route flush cache
ping -c1 -Mdo -s2000 10.1.1.2
ip route del 10.1.1.2 dev test proto static src 10.1.1.1 mtu lock 800
echo =
echo Per route MTU is set to 600
ip route add 10.1.1.2 dev test proto static src 10.1.1.1 mtu lock 600
ip route flush cache
ping -c1 -Mdo -s2000 10.1.1.2
ip route del 10.1.1.2 dev test proto static src 10.1.1.1 mtu lock 600
echo =
echo No per route mtu entry
ip route flush cache
ping -c1 -Mdo -s2000 10.1.1.2
ip tuntap del dev test mode tun

With kernel 3.2 I get following output:
Linux germany7 3.2.0-41-generic-pae #66-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 25 03:50:20 UTC 2013
i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

--- 10.1.1.2 ping statistics ---

After once set to 800 MTU is always 800, even if you add different route
and clean routing cache.

It looks like that problem is fixed in ubuntu kernel 3.5. With it everything
works like expected:
root@germany7:~# ./route-mtu

I also tested with kernels 2.6.35 (in lucid) and 3.8 (in precise), results are
same to 3.5.

Is there any chance to get fixes from 3.5/3.8 backported to the default
precise kernel 3.2?

[Bug 620331] Re: please drop icon from keyboard indicator

2010-10-10 Thread Yura Tolstik
@Karl, in native gnome, when you turn on show_flags in gconf you can
see only flag, but when you turn off, you can see only letters without
image, and i am not sure that you had to change API to fix it

[Bug 625793] Re: Keyboard layout automatically changes + 100% CPU usage [updated]

2010-10-07 Thread Yura Tolstik
I can confirm, that bug still reproduced in g-s-d_2.32.0-0ubuntu3.
Maybe you can enable trace and post new bug in apport for killing g-s-d by
hands?

[Bug 625793] Re: Keyboard layout automatically changes + 100% CPU usage [updated]

2010-10-06 Thread Yura Tolstik
I can't use gnome-terminal hotkeys(in particular Ctrl+Shift+C and
Ctrl+Shift+V) after update, I hope it isn't caused by g-s-d update

I suppose it is classic race condition on layout change
I don't see the code, and I can't help you find place where it happens

Can you listen original g-s-d layout change signal to fix it, couldn't
you?

@Karl, why anyone can reproduce this bug on any other distro with gnome

2010-10-05 Thread Yura Tolstik
@Karl, as I understood, you can do this patch more gently to make
behavior of the same as in g-s-d

p.s. hope we can test this fix soon and thanks for it :)
