[Bug 446657] Re: Bluetooth's on/off status doesn't update from the SetProperty D-Bus method that bluetoothd sends

2014-11-29 Thread zeus
I'm on Ubuntu 14.04, a Toshiba Portégé Z830 with Atheros bluetooth,
gnome-bluetooth v 3.8.2.1. I can confirrm I'm still experiencing this
issue for the past two or three years. Never seen it solved. Bluetooth
state always on after reboot. Indeed having to switch it off every time
makes Ubuntu less user-friendly. If it's useful for someone, when I use
KDE I don't have this problem. Only with Gnome (same Ubuntu and Mint),

I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 (the issue persists also in Mint 14.04), Atheros bluetooth

I think this is not a problem. You can inform the user that he may be
doing ilegal things by recording the MPEG stream, as stated by the
license restrictions. But this is something that is up to the user.
Because in any case he can be only listening.

[Bug 577851] Re: Opening a new tab always takes few seconds

2010-05-28 Thread Zeus Gómez Marmolejo
I have the system upgraded till the latest packages, and it continues to
happen with gnome-terminal.

I've tried with terminator and with this it's much faster. I would say
that it's less than one second to open a new tab.

My computer is a bit old, with 1Gb of physical RAM. But I've compared the
memory usage of both programs:
zeus 5789 1.9 3.8 238944 39832 ?Sl 21:40 0:04 gnome-terminal
zeus 5790 0.0 0.0 14480 792 ?S21:40 0:00 \_
gnome-pty-helper

zeus 6064 8.0 0.4 21724 4384 pts/1Ss 21:44 0:00 \_ bash
zeus 6085 0.0 0.1 15388 1232 pts/1R+ 21:44 0:00 \_ ps axuf
zeus 5848 0.7 3.5 349276 36808 ?Sl 21:41 0:01
/usr/bin/python /usr/bin/terminator
zeus 5851 0.0 0.0 14480 788 ?S21:41 0:00 \_
gnome-pty-helper
zeus 5852 0.1 0.4 21720 4372 pts/3Ss+ 21:41 0:00 \_ /bin/bash
zeus 5871 0.1 0.4 21720 4368 pts/4Ss+ 21:41 0:00 \_ /bin/bash

And seems that gnome-terminal uses less memory than terminator. So it
should be something else...

[Bug 577851] [NEW] Opening a new tab always takes few seconds

2010-05-09 Thread Zeus Gómez Marmolejo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

When opening a new tab in gnome-terminal with Shift+Ctrl+T or doing it
through the menu bar, terminal freezes for about 3-4 seconds and then
the new tab appears. That makes working with tabs a bit annoying,
specially because in the previous version (in Ubuntu 9.10) opening a new
tab happened immediatelly.

[Bug 329013] Re: xfce4-mixer-plugin crashed with SIGSEGV in free()

2010-01-20 Thread zeus
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 326441 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/326441

I have the package xfce4-mixer 1:4.6.0-1ubuntu2, and I'm suffering this
bug since two days ago. Sound was working flawless until I uninstalled
the alsa-drivers-linuxant package (which I had installed for trying to
make the modem work). After this uninstallation, now I get the dreaded
message: GStreamer was unable to detect any sound devices. Some sound
system specific GStreamer packages may be missing. It may also be a
permissions problem. However, all the gstreamer packages needed are
installed. My /dev/sndstat says, among other things, Card config: --no
soundcards--. Is this bug I'm experiencing, or maybe it's a different
problem?

[Bug 384344] Re: [3G] NetworkManager does not detect ZTE AC8710 CDMA/EVDO 3G USB Modem

2010-01-13 Thread zeus
Thanks Naveen.

I've tried to revert to former NM versions, but it didn't work. Bug is
still there. I took a look in the links you post, which are useful to
find information about the modem in order to file a bug. That's actually
what I'm going to do.

[Bug 507268] [NEW] NetworkManager doesn't correctly probe Novatel XU870

2010-01-13 Thread zeus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Ubuntu release: 9.04, Jaunty
network-manager 0.7.1
linux kernel 2.6.28-17
Broadband mobile card modem: Novatel Merlin XU870

What do I expect to happen? I expect left-clicking the nm-applet panel icon and
seeing the mobile broadband connection I have configured.
What happens instead? I don't see it.

When investigating a little bit, I check that my card is properly
detected by the system, the drivers (option, usbserial) correctly loaded
and the device node (/dev/ttyUSB0) created. I can use the modem with,
for example, pppd, and get online without problems. But network-manager
ignores my card under the excuse that it hasn't probed mobile broadband
capabilities. To be more precise, with the following messages:

(ttyUSB0): found serial port (udev: hal:GSM)
(ttyUSB0): ignoring due to lack of probed mobile broadband capabilities
(ttyUSB1): ignoring due to lack of mobile broadband capabilities

Which obviously isn't true, as when I manually run nm-modem-probe --verbose
--export /dev/ttyUSB0, I get:
modem_probe_caps(): GCAP response: +GCAP: +CGSM, +DS
ID_NM_MODEM_GSM=1
ID_NM_MODDM_PROBED=1
main(): /dev/ttyUSB0: caps (0x9) GSM

I've been modifying the /lib/udev/rules.d/77-nm-probemodem-
capabilities.rules as suggested in bug 384344, but to no avail. NM
insists in denying broadband capabilities to my card.

[Bug 384344] Re: [3G] NetworkManager does not detect ZTE AC8710 CDMA/EVDO 3G USB Modem

2010-01-08 Thread zeus
Another couple of things.

One is about what your comment, Naveen, on two cards having same id and
vendor but being reported as having different capabilities, GSM and
CDMA. Well, my card is a CDMA one, I'm positive about that, however NM
reports it as GSM. I can only make a guess, fruit of my ignorance: maybe
the NM report is related to the couple device+SIM? Thus, if we have a
CDMA capable device but our ISP is only providing us GSM, might it be
possible that NM reported GSM? Sorry if I'm talking nonsense, but the
fact is that NM reports my card as GSM (while it's CDMA), and that
presently I'm only getting GPRS connection from my ISP (I believe I
might have exceeded the download limit above which they cut down the 3G
speed to 2G). That might explain your case, Naveen, and I hope it
explains mine! Because the other explanation I can think of is that,
somehow, I've managed to damage my card (in one of those hotplugging-
computer freezing-hotunplugging cycles). But would it still work?

The other thing is more related with the bug itself: after upgrading
network-manager to version 0.7.2, now I don't get the
ID_NM_MODEM_GSM=1
but only the
ID_NM_MODEM_PROBED=1
when nm-modem-probing it

[Bug 384344] Re: [3G] NetworkManager does not detect ZTE AC8710 CDMA/EVDO 3G USB Modem

2010-01-07 Thread zeus
Hi there. I'm newby here, so sorry if I'm writing in the wrong place.
However, this is the most similar thread to what I need that I've been
able to find in the net.

I have a Novatel Merlin UX870 pc card (idxvendor=1410x1430) that I use as a
modem. My OS is Xubuntu 9.04. My network-manager version is 0.7.1. My present
linux kernel is version 2.6.28-17.

So far, everything worked ok. When I plugged in my card, it got detected
by the system, properly loaded the modules (usbserial and option) and
created the device nodes /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1 (first one is the
good one, the other I don't know its use), properly detected by NM,
properly been able to create new mobile broadband connections with the
applett netrowk-manager-gnome and, in general, all was happiness and
joy.

But suddenly, since some days ago, after
I-don't-know-what-I-may-have-possibly-done, NM doesn't like my modem any more.
The system still sees it, and I can, for example, manually configure and pon
myconnection, and get online without problems. But NM refuses to accept the
card.
The only relevant thing I remember having done recently is replacing the
2.6.28-15 kernel with the 2.6.28-17, but I'm not sure if that's the problem, as
I think that dates of replacement/issue don't match. Besides, I've tried with
another one kernel (2.6.24-23) and problem remains. So, probably that has
nothing to do. I've a badly broken memory (in my head, I mean, not in the
computer), but I don't remember having installed or uninstalled anything
relevant. So, I'm at a loss.

Any clue? I'd very much appreciate some guideline or hint.

Useful information for somebody out there who will like to help me:

When plugged the card, or when restarted, NetworkManager logs that
(ttyUSB0): found serial port (udev: hal:GSM)
(ttyUSB0): ignoring due to lack of probed mobile broadband capabilities
(ttyUSB1): ignoring due to lack of mobile broadband capabilities

End of nm-modem-probe /dev/ttyUSB0 command says that
modem_probe_caps(): GCAP response: +GCAP: +CGSM, +DS
ID_NM_MODEM_GSM=1
ID_NM_MODDM_PROBED=1
main(): /dev/ttyUSB0: caps (0x9) GSM

I've been modifying the /lib/udev/rules.d/77-nm-probemodem-
capabilities.rules as suggested above in this post, tried all possible
combinations, but NM insists in denying broadband capabilities to my
card. Seems like if it wasn't running nm-modem-probe, or something...

[Bug 458319] Re: Individual Emails Disappear from Inbox on Exchange Server

2009-11-02 Thread Zeus
Hey Paul I've been using Karmic since release day so far I haven't seen
this issue. So hopefully its fixed. But then the problem only occurs
every now and then so will wait and see.

In terms of your other question your account information will still be
there, you just re-open evolution. and it basically just resync's all
your email, Obviously takes a while to complete,

Also just mentioning the rm -r (the -r) is a recursive delete so the
commands are deleting the exchange and the mail/exchange folders and
everything in them. Hence why I change directory to .evolution first,
Trust me the worst command on linux/unix is rm -rf * never use it :)

[Bug 470090] [NEW] Karmic: Evolution tries to talk to the wrong exchange server

2009-11-01 Thread Zeus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-exchange

The problem I notice has surfaced in the 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 version of the
evolution-exchange connector on Karmic Koala

Actually not really sure this is a bug but I have not had this problem since
around Gutsy maybe even Edgy.
The problem is I configure evolution with the OWA url

http://euukflesvex01/exchange/

My username gets set as domain\first.last.

I authenticate fine, i.e. no errors.. However the account then gets
created with the exchange server being UKSUNSVEX01 and of course when I
exit the account creation screen and evolution tries to retrieve mail,
it wants me to authenticate to UKSUNSVEX01 which I do with the same
password, but of course my mailbox is not on that server so
authentication request keeps on happening.

My work around was to hard code UKSUNSVEX01's address in /etc/hosts with
the address for euukflesvex01

The work around works.

Not sure of what other information can be provided.

Also sorry just a side note thanks to Alessio Treglia for trying to fix

Direct link

Note to install save file say in home directory.

then open a terminal and sudo dpkg -i hellanzb_0.13-3ubuntu2_all.deb

Opening the deb file in the default GDebi Package Installer will not
allow installation as you already have the 'newest' version

2009-02-18 Thread Zeus
Hi Everyone

I'm not to sure what exactly what to do here, initially on installing
alpha 4 atheros driver was available in the hardware drivers section,
but I noticed that even if its not loaded it says the driver has just
been deactivated if I try to activate...

After a few updates I have installed the linux-backports and linux-
restricted...

z...@kimera:~$ uname -a

The network manager applet initially would connec= and show wifi
networks, wifi worked on my unsecured work wifi with web page based
login. But at home with wep 64 it would connect but not pass any
traffic, after updating now network-manager doesn't even show wireless
networks available.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Jason.

[Bug 281400] Re: 0.5.1r275-1ubuntu1 dead peer, unusable

2008-11-18 Thread Zeus
Hi everyone I found this problem in Hardy to.

I resolved it by installing the ppa package from this bug report

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vpnc/+bug/206673

To install I did the command line

sudo dpkg -i vpnc_0.5.1r275-1ubuntu1~ppa1_i386.deb

Via the GUI the install option is greyed out as it sees the current vpn
version as being newer.

I'll update with if this seems to resolve the stability issues. I was
only dropping my vpn say every half and hour.

[Bug 280897] Re: fsck is not helpful

2008-10-09 Thread -Zeus-
Hi, thanks for reporting this bug. I am sorry that you fs got
corrupted, however, let me give you a little background on how fsck
works. Basically, any files that it CAN fix, it fixes and puts in the
original place. And files that can't be fixed (eg, very badly corrupted
sections) are moved to /lost+found, so if you want to try other programs
yourself, you can use it on that folder. So basically, fsck was not
able to fix anything, and I would daresay your whole volume is hosed.

[Bug 272306] Re: apt-get doesn't work properly on ssh-ed pc

2008-09-19 Thread -Zeus-
I really don't think this is a bug in openssh... more likely in whatever
ssh program you are using. However, could you post the output of apt-
cache policy ssh and also tell us what ssh program you are using to
connect. I can also NOT confirm this with ssh version 1:5.1p1-1ubuntu2
connecting through xterm.
