2024-04-06 Thread Zingam
Just out of curiosity. The issue is fixed in Mutter but the status in
Gnome Shell is New? Does it mean it is partially fixed? How are these
related in the bug report?

[Bug 1968040] Re: Blanked screen doesn't wake up after locking [drmModeAtomicCommit: Argument invalide] [drmModeAtomicCommit: Invalid argument]

2022-06-06 Thread Zingam
Hi Jorge, do you have an external monitor connected via HDMI and an
internal display (a laptop with hybrid graphics Intel + NVIDIA) too? I
can't test this right now.

My original bug report is a big messy. It is more like three separate issue
into one.
1. Internal monitor doesn't wake up after sleep
2. External monitor doesn't get turned off during sleep
3. Poor performance.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1971149

All described issues aren't present in an Xorg session.

[Bug 1973467] Re: [nvidia] Screen Blank: External screen is not turned off

2022-06-03 Thread Zingam
I tried a few more times and none of the issues I have with Wayland are
present with Xorg:

1. External monitor doesn't turn off during sleep
2. Internal display doesn't wake up from sleep
3. Crashes while resizing snapped/joined windows fast continously
4. No nightlight
5. Mozilla (XWayland) leaves artifacts (part of the image) on the desktop when
restoring window from full-screen when playing YouTube videos.
6. Inconsistent desktop GNOME performance, mouse doesn't feel smooth

I reported or voted for all of the above.

[Bug 1973467] Re: [nvidia] Screen Blank: External screen is not turned off

2022-06-03 Thread Zingam
I tried this just once in Xorg session.

These two issues didn't occur:

1. External monitor was turned off during sleep
2. Internal display did turn on after waking from sleep

In a Wayland session

1. On sleep: The External monitor glows but is blank. The internal display
doesn't glow.
2. On wake: The External display wakes up. The internal display doesn't wake up.

(2.) was reported separately but I can't find it any longer. I think you
said that the something crashed in the attached log report.

I tried the same in an xorg session. All I noticed that the snapping
works choppy and inconsistent, when three windows are competing for the
snapping otherwise I couldn't notice any abnormalities and it didn't
crash.

2022-05-17 Thread Zingam
Hi, Daniel, I got a big update yesterday. I feel subjectively that the
situation improved significantly (Wayland). Was there a fix for the
issue?

Though I still feel that macOS on Iris Graphics HD4000 is still smoother
on 1440p than what I get on my hybrid HD630/1050Ti.

[Bug 1973467] [NEW] Screen Blank: External screen is not turned off

2022-05-15 Thread Zingam
Public bug reported:

In Power -> Power Saving Options -> Screen Blank - the option states
that the screen will be turned off after some period, which is what I'd
expect from a sleep mode.

I have a hybrid system. I have disabled the internal display and I use
the external connected via HDMI (and I believe it is connected to the
NVIDIA GPU). When the screen goes blank the external monitor is not
turned off really. It goes blank but it is still turned on and glows, so
no power is saved.

[Bug 1973405] [NEW] Ubuntu 22.04/Wayland Session: Crash when resizing snapped windows

2022-05-14 Thread Zingam
Public bug reported:

1. Login: Wayland Session
2. Started Firefox snap via terminal: MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 snap run firefox &
disown
3. Started Visual Studio Code snap
4. Started File
5. Snapped the three windows to left and right (Firefox to the left and the
other two windows to the right)
6. Dragged the windows border to resize the windows - repeat this a few times,
adjust the third window to snap again (VSCode)

Observed:
- Poor performance while resizing
- The desktop freezes for a few seconds sometimes
- Crash to login screen.

I have a hybrid system. I had disabled the internal screen and I was
playing around on the external monitor connected HDMI. I think the HDMI
in my laptop is connected to the discreet NVIDIA card.

[Bug 1970291] Re: [nvidia] Secondary monitor performance is slow on an Nvidia hybrid system in Wayland sessions

I'm quite convinced that moving the mouse fast in circles over Firefox
for example doesn't feel quite right both on Wayland and on Xorg on my
external monitor.

I just noticed that night light doesn't work on Wayland but I guess that
is a known issue.

[Bug 1973225] [NEW] Wayland/Hybrid/NVIDIA: Laggy mouse movement on external monitor

2022-05-12 Thread Zingam
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1970291 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970291

Public bug reported:

I use the same monitor 1440p, keyboard and mouse connected via HDMI to
older MacBook Pro and dual boot Laptop (Ubuntu + Win10) with Hybrid
graphics Intel 630HD and GeForce 1050Ti.

Since 22.04 the mouse movement on my external monitor feels laggy, jerky, while
on the internal display it feels OK. I think on Ubuntu 20.04 there was not such
an issue.
I feel that the mouse movement on the internal display is much smoother.

Otherwise GNOME Shell, YouTube, VLC don't seem to experience bad
performance.

[Bug 1970291] Re: [nvidia] Secondary monitor performance is slow on an Nvidia hybrid system in Wayland sessions

2022-05-12 Thread Zingam
I can't confirm that the description matches my issue but maybe it is
the same. So here is my own description:

[Bug 1971149] Re: Wayland session: Internal display is black after sleep

2022-05-11 Thread Zingam
This maybe unrelated but I'll write it here too:

Since 22.04 the mouse movement on my external monitor feels laggy,
jerky, while on the internal display it feels ok. I think on Ubuntu
20.04 there was not such an issue. I use Windows (same configuration)
and macOS too with this monitor and they are smooth.

After performing the above sleep experiment I think the mouse movement
got smoother. Now only my external monitor is turned on.

[Bug 1971149] Re: Wayland session: Internal display is black after sleep

2022-05-11 Thread Zingam
Some additional information + the included log.

1. During "sleep" the internal display appears to be powered off but the
external is blank but powered on (which means it glows in the dark).
2. I tried to reproduce the behavior by "suspending". When I resumed both
displays turned on but instead of a mouse cursor there was a huge white
rectangle on the login screen. After I clicked, moved it around the normal
cursor appeared.

[Bug 1971149] [NEW] Wayland session: Internal display is black after sleep

2022-05-02 Thread Zingam
Public bug reported:

I have a laptop with Intel 630 and NVIDIA 1050 Ti, I have connected an
external display via HDMI. I have set this external display as primary.
I also chose a Wayland session. My Ubuntu 22.04 has all the latest
updates as of today.

When my laptop sleeps after I re-login the internal display (connected
to Intel 630 AFAIK) is black. It appears enabled in the settings and if
I change it to be the primary it lights up.

I don't remember seeing this in an X.org session.

[Bug 1968929] Re: Missing Wayland login option on NVIDIA systems

2022-04-23 Thread Zingam
I have a laptop with Intel+NVIDIA combo. I did a fresh install. Ubuntu
uses Xorg and now it even feels choppier with more screen tearing than
my previous 20.04 installation. I see none of the speed improvement
claims from 22.04's release notes in the gnome session.

[Bug 1752739] Re: PRIME Synchronization doesn't work with linux-kernel 4.15.

2020-05-30 Thread Zingam
I have a Dell 7567 laptop with NVIDIA and Intel GPUs and a very bad screen
tearing on Ubuntu 2004 and nothing seems to be able to fix it. Could something
be done about that?
At least with the proprietary drivers I have multiple windows support (mostly
99% of the time works).

[Bug 1875810] [NEW] External Primary monitor mistaken for built-in - Gnome Dock has a wrong location description

2020-04-29 Thread Zingam
Public bug reported:

On a laptop with a built-in display (Internal GPU) and external monitor
(discrete GPU). I use the proprietary NVIDIA driver in Performance mode.

If in Settings->Displays I select the external monitor to be the primary one
and I want the dock to appear on the primary display (the external monitor) in
Settings->Appearance Show on displays "Build-in display" (which is reversed).
In that scenario the test should be the name of the external monitor (Dell).
If I select it (Dell) the dock is moved the the real built-in display.

If the built-in display is the primary display - everything is fine.

If headphones are plugged-in an app appears to ask me if I want to enable them.
If the headphones are already plugged-in on a bood/login they are not

[Bug 1816222] Re: After updating to 18.04.2 and kernel 4.18.0-15.16 boot stalls

2019-04-06 Thread Zingam
At the moment I am inclined to wait for the 19.04 release before I try
again.

How did you manage to get that NVIDIA driver to load? Shouldn't that
proprietary driver selector to just work and setup whatever it is
necessary?

Anyway where can I get a reliable Bionic version that uses a newer
kernel? Maybe I can try.

BTW. The update that broke my installation contained xorg stuff.

2019-03-30 Thread Zingam
After the last big update - I am unable to boot to desktop unless in safe mode.
No matter what kernel I use.
At least previously 4.15 worked.
I tried the Beta 19.04 live usb it booted very slowly and hanged.

Despite the stupid branding "Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming" I don't care about the
"Gaming" part. I am interested in getting the latest GCC/clang, MESA mostly,
eventually Vulkan support. I am fine with using just the Intel drivers.
I use an external monitor via HDMI port. At least on Windows rendering for the
external monitor appears to happen on the NVIDIA GPU. If something is rendered
on the laptop display - HD630 is busy, when rendered on the external monitor -
NVIDIA GPU.

I tried the proprietary driver before I couldn't get it to work at all. If I
recall correctly the system would freeze and I couldn't get the external
monitor to work properly.
My priorities are a low power, low noise productive system.

** Description changed:

I upgraded my 18.04.1 to 18.04.2 and then opted for the HWE stack.
My laptop is unable to go past the loading screen with 4.18.0-15.16 but
boots normally with the 4.15.x drivers.
In safe mode I can boot with 4.18 but just the main monitor is detected.

I used UKUU to try 4.20.x and other kernels but none of them booted.
The laptop is Dell Inspiron 7567 with Intel HD630 and NVIDIA 1050Ti with the
default drivers (NVIDIA proprietary driver never worked on this laptop).

[Bug 1816222] Re: After updating to 18.04.2 and kernel 4.18.0-15.16 boot stalls

2019-02-20 Thread Zingam
I just tried 4.18.0 it won't boot either. I also noticed while installing it an
error message of the sort: "missing nouveau firmware".
Well, that's it! Nouveau fails to start.

[Bug 1814555] Re: Ubuntu boot failure. 4.18.0-14 boot stalls. (does not boot)

2019-02-16 Thread Zingam
Inspiron 7567 has Intel HD 630 and NVIDIA 1050Ti. NVIDIA propr. driver never
worked for me.
I used UKUU and tried a few kernels past 4.18.x and none of them worked. I had
to uninstall them and I use 4.15, which lets the laptop to boot normally.
Although I have noticed a few graphical glitches after installing 18.04.2 HWE.

[Bug 1768098] [NEW] Live Ubuntu should not change the System Time!

2018-04-30 Thread Zingam
Public bug reported:

Everytime when I run a Live Ubuntu session after I reboot in Windows the system
time is changed. I guess to the GMT.
System time should not be changed in any way. Ubuntu should mind that the
system might be a dual boot one and should not change the time including
whenever daylight saving time is active. It should check if it is the correct
time before applying any such changes to the system time.

[Bug 983773] Re: While using mobile broadband connection, no icon is shown in Xubuntu

2012-04-25 Thread Zingam
OK. I have upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 (and maybe from 11.04 before
that) and I have changed my desktop a few times inbetween Unity - KDE - Unity
- Xface. I haven't done any magic. I have used sudo tasksel. The reason for
that was because I had issues with all of these desktops, primarily with the
netowrk manager.
The current setup Xubuntu 12.04 works best so far - hardwarewise. I usually do
not like to play with my settings much and I usually do not install additional
themes. So I think I am currently using one of the preinstalled ones:
Graybird. Even before I have done any changes - from the very first moment
when I installed xface - there was no icon showing when Broadband connection is
established.
I have read that this might be a theme releated, so I have played with varios
settings after that but nothing changed.
The icon is OK when there is no connection, when there is a wireless connection
or wired connection but there is just an empty space when there is a Broadband
connection.

I could post a screenshot as a proof if that would help.

[Bug 983773] [NEW] While using mobile broadband connection, no icon is shown in Xubuntu

2012-04-17 Thread Zingam
Public bug reported:

I have no idea if this is xfce panel releated. The applet appears to
work OK but when a mobile broadband connection is established, there is
no icon displayed in the xfce panel. All other functionality seems OK.
If I disconnect there is again an icon.

Also sometimes after I disconnect I cannot reconnect again until I
unplug and plug the broadband huawei USB device.
