[Bug 2077184] [NEW] GnuCash Python bindings fail to load
Public bug reported: All attempts to import the `gnucash` Python package fail with the error: ERROR g_variant_unref: assertion 'value != NULL' failed System Details: - Ubuntu Version: 22.04.4 LTS - Architecture: amd64 - Python Version: 3.10.12 Buggy Package Version: python3-gnucash: Installed: 1:4.8-1build2 Candidate: 1:4.8-1build2 Source Package: gnucash Version: 1:4.8-1build2 Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install `gnucash` and `python3-gnucash`. 2. Execute the following command: python3 -c "import gnucash" ``` Observed Behavior: The command produces: 18:18:27 ERROR g_variant_unref: assertion 'value != NULL' failed Expected Behavior: The command should return with error code 0, indicating a successful import. Additional Information: This error does not appear in newer OS/package versions. It has been reported to work with Python 3.11.2 on Debian 12 and works perfectly on Ubuntu 24.04 (Python 3.12, GnuCash 5.5), which I have confirmed personally. Sadly not on Ubuntu 22.04. Workarounds Tried: - Reinstalling python3-gnucash - did not help. - Using a virtual environment - neither. - Testing with other OS and Python versions (3.11 and 3.12), where the issue did not appear. I suspect this may be related to packaging issues specific to python3-gnucash on Ubuntu 22.04. [Bug 1945202] [NEW] Tar changes folder ownership when run under root
Public bug reported: I got locked out of my server via SSH, simply by extracting a tar file. No matter how crazy it sounds, it is reproducible. 1. login as root 2. wget https://github.com/aristocratos/btop/releases/download/v1.0.9/btop-1.0.9-linux-x86_64.tbz` 3. tar -xjvf btop-1.0.9-linux-x86_64.tbz` At this point the /root folder has ownership of user:user (1000:1000) and the root is locked out from SSH login. I had to fix the server via KVM. auth.log contained the following: "Authentication refused: bad ownership or modes for directory /root" This seems to be a bug in tar, as the above behaviour doesn't happen when logged in under any non-root user. With non-root users the directory does not change ownership. With root user, no matter where I extract the tar file, the directory changes ownership. --- lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS Release:18.04 apt-cache policy tar tar: Installed: 1.29b-2ubuntu0.2 Candidate: 1.29b-2ubuntu0.2 ** Affects: tar (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1945202 Title: Tar changes folder ownership when run under root To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tar/+bug/1945202/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1921632] Re: build module CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m for 5.11, 5.13-rc2 and later
My machine is a Dell XPS 9700, happy to provide hardware info or any other details you may be interested in. With -20 kernel audio and 4k support is both broken. Audio behaves exactly like with unpatched -16 or -17 kernels, only "dummy output" is present no onboard input/outputs are visible. [Bug 1924685] Re: No sound output/input available after installing 21.04
~mesouug I've tested my XPS 9700 on the self-compiled ubuntu kernel, and it works great with a 4-pin plug, even the microphone input of the headset is fully functional. There may be hardware differences within the XPS 9700 line as well, but the driver must be fully functional for at least some of the hardware sold. I'm affected by this bug, and I can confirm that the root cause is a misconfiguration of kernel flags as described in this mailing list: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=976791#35 I've used the ubuntu wiki Build Your Own kernel guide (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BuildYourOwnKernel) to enable the CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_USER_FRIENDLY_LONG_NAMES=y option, and I can confirm it works. [Bug 1647217] Re: Nautilus “Open with …” context menu gone on upgrade to yakkety
"the current maintainers are quite open to comments" Doesn't seem like it. Check out: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=747706 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=777132 In the former several people expressed their frustration about this change, no comment was arguing for the change, they were told to open a separate issue. They did (see the second link) and there the maintainer doesn't seem to be reasonable about this at all. He is very polite though, but pretty certain about the new behaviour being the best one for most of the users. The maintainer referred to this usability test: https://renatagegaj.wordpress.com/2016/08/23/gnome-usability-test-results-part-1/ https://renatagegaj.wordpress.com/2016/08/26/gnome-usability-test-results-part-2/ It has nothing to do with Nautilus and it's based on a feedback from 10 users!!! Wow. How many users does Gnome have from how many countries/cultures, professions, age groups, etc.? And this is not the first time that I see some unexplainable change occur in a major component (i.e. something that I use on a daily basis) of Ubuntu with a similiar reaction from the maintainer(s). And it'll not get fixed/reverted before one or two Gnome/Ubuntu releases, I'm pretty sure of it. I only hope somebody comes up with a PPA where a patched version of Nautilus will become available with the old behaviour of the "Open with" right-click menu item. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #777132 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=777132 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1647217 Title: Nautilus “Open with …” context menu gone on upgrade to yakkety To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1647217/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1645002] [NEW] ssh sessions are not cleanly terminated on shutdown/restart with systemd
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 16.04, a "reboot" command does not terminate the ssh session. This results in clients hanging, until timing out (sometimes as much as 120 seconds). This also introduces bugs to all orchestration / automation tools which work over SSH, since they cannot issue their reboot equivalent for Ubuntu 16.04 hosts. For example, have a look at this issue for Fabric: https://github.com/fabric/fabric/issues/1488 The exact same bug has been fixed in Debian in version openssh/1:7.2p2-6. There is a very detailed discussion in their bug tracker: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=751636 ** Affects: openssh (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1645002 Title: ssh sessions are not cleanly terminated on shutdown/restart with systemd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1645002/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1644996] [NEW] logrotate config uses syslog group
Public bug reported: The default logrotate config uses the "syslog" group. > # use the syslog group by default, since this is the owning group > # of /var/log/syslog. > su root syslog This is not correct anymore since 16.04, because: 1. "syslog" group doesn't exist on a stock Ubuntu 16.04 system, it only gets installed via rsyslog 2. The owning group is actually "adm". This results in logrotate terminating with the following error during cron.daily run: run-parts -v /etc/cron.daily run-parts: executing /etc/cron.daily/logrotate error: /etc/logrotate.conf:7 unknown group 'syslog' And can be fixed by changing syslog to adm group. This is not present when rsyslog is installed, but only because that package creates the syslog group. This is a common bug in lighter environments, like Docker, where syslog-ng is a common choice instead of rsyslog, like in this issue: https://github.com/phusion/baseimage-docker/issues/338 ** Affects: logrotate (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1644996 Title: logrotate config uses syslog group To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/logrotate/+bug/1644996/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 837954] Re: knockd service fails to start when connecting with NetworkManager
Um... I observed that it happens because my wireless interface is down when knockd is about to start. It usually happens during boot and after the machine resumed from suspend. I thought I'll give a try to "After=network-online.target" option for the systemd config of knockd but I didn't find any configuration. It looks like there's an old-style init script under the hood. Finally I wrote a bash script that starts or stops knockd when the interface is up/down, made it executable and placed to /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/ - it's working now. ** Attachment added: "Workaround" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/knockd/+bug/837954/+attachment/4505920/+files/90nmknockd -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/837954 Title: knockd service fails to start when connecting with NetworkManager To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/knockd/+bug/837954/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi! I bought a new Acer Aspire E1-571-3114G50Mnks laptop for my father a few weeks ago and installed Ubuntu 13.04 on it. It seems I have a similar problem. The wireless network is hidden. Re: [Bug 1104476] Re: Network manager cannot connect to WPA2/PEAP/MSCHAPv2 network without CA_Certificate
upgrading is not good. try to fire up a usb image and try if it it can connect in the live mode. the problem is probably with the upgrade. but first try to connect to a hidden network. [Bug 1104476] Re: Network manager cannot connect to Eduroam (worldwide WiFi network for university students)
I'm marking this again as new, cause the definition of invalid says that it should be a support request which it is not, because canonical cannot provide support to solve it. most people don't know what a CA certificate is, so you can't leave it this way, cause they will say, that ubuntu just cannot connect and they are moving back to windows... you have to consider what normal people will think about this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1104476 Title: Network manager cannot connect to Eduroam (worldwide WiFi network for university students) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1104476/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
