[Bug 2059107] [NEW] lto-disabled-list not documented in dpkg-buildflags man page
Public bug reported: When debugging some compilation issue I couldn't understand why the buildflags would be changed depending in the source package name. I did go through dpkg-buildflags man page but couldn't find an answer. It took me quite some time to figure out what's going on and only after I found out about lto-disabled-list file, I was able to find documentation on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ToolChain/LTO. I understand this was considered temporary but it seems like it is to stay for some time. Man page is one of the most important documentation many people would be looking into in case of problems and it is quite unexpected that multiple ways of configuring dpkg-buildflags are mentioned but this one isn't. It is even adding to the confusion by mentioning lto is disabled by default which is not the case on Ubuntu: "lto This setting (since dpkg 1.21.0; disabled by default)" Would you consider adding information about that feature also to the man page? I'm using Ubuntu 23.10 with 1.22.0ubuntu1.1 but as far as I can tell that is also not documented in ubuntu/devel branch of https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg. ** Affects: dpkg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2059107 Title: lto-disabled-list not documented in dpkg-buildflags man page To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/2059107/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1688018] Re: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6
Ah, I forgot to mention I've found a somewhat working workaround. If you uncomment the line "DNS" in /etc/systemd/resolved.conf and put list of DNSes with first VPN's DNS then your normal DNS, then it will always try to go through the VPN's DNS first even if you're not trying to access a resource from the VPN. [Bug 877443] [NEW] Grid plugin incompatible with Put plugin
Public bug reported: I am using Compiz 0.9.6 under Xubuntu 11.10. If I enable the Grid plugin, and use a keyboard shortcut to resize/place a window, I can no longer use the Put-plugin to move it around on the screen. As soon as the Put plugin is done moving it (ie the move- animation is complete), it snaps back to whereever Grid placed it. I can move the window fine with the mouse, but Bug #745159 prevents me from disabling "Snap windows back to original size", so the window loses the size Grid has set for it. Furthermore, using 'Put Center' (Ctrl-Alt-KP_5) several times to cycle through window sizes, will place the window on another display (my "primary" display, according to XFCE), with no way of moving it back, aside from dragging it, thereby losing the size set by Grid (as noted above). Alan: My Eee 900 is bricked. I have dd'ed zeroes over the SSD several times, and while I am no longer getting HSM-violations (since I am using a 8.04 rescue image), I now get Buffer I/O errors galore on the device. A full dd takes roughly 12 hours (that's the 16 gig drive) due to all these errors, and have no effect on them. I have dd'ed it probably three or four times now, and there's no apparent improvement. I have given up and purchased a 1008HA with a regular disk on it instead. That works like a charm, though. [Bug 445852] Re: devkit-disks-probe-ata-smart causes HSM Violations on SSD, and potential hardware death
So. I have /dev/zeroed both the 4G and the 16G SSDs in my Eee PC after running into this bug. When I discovered what was going on, I had used Karmic for about one hour. The 4G drive seems to be OK.'badblocks -s' finish with no reports. The 16G drive is dead. Stuffed to the brim with bad sectors, and dmesg shows I/O errors galore. This is both with 9.04 and 8.04 (which was my last known good installation) kernels. 8.04 allowed me to actually make a partition table after 9.04 failed with I/O errors all over the place. 8.04 also allowed me to create a file system. badblocks(1), however, show that there are still tons of errors on the drive. I am going to try another /dev/zeroing of the 16G drive with a 8.04 kernel, for good measure, but I am not optimistic, since the HSM violations are gone, and what I see is, as mentioned, what looks like hardware I/O errors. Mind you, both these drives worked fine prior to installing 9.10, but now, one disk is dead. I am NOT really happy with Ubuntu right now. Spare Asus SSDs (which of course don't use regular SATA connections) are not a common commodity here, so for all intents and purposes, Karmic has bricked my Eee. -- devkit-disks-probe-ata-smart causes HSM Violations on SSD, and potential hardware death https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445852 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 387272] Re: [karmic] long boot time on eee 900
Same deal on my Eee 900/Karmic, using the 'generic-pae'-kernel (since that was what the installer picked). I removed the 16 gig flash card, since I only had problems on that, in order to be able to boot the eee (root on the 4G, /home on the 16) and use it until I got around to maybe try and recover the removable drive. When I did that, I started getting same problems on the 4G drive, and now the Eee is for all practical purposes useless (bar a reinstall), getting the same Grub-error as someone mentioned above. As such, I blame the ata driver in the kernel for these problems. This is the second straight release in which the (orn rather a) ata- driver is causing data loss (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/346691). I don't know if we're to blame the Linux kernel or Ubuntu, but this is NOT worthy of supposedly release quality software, and as such really ought to be "Critical" rather than "Medium", since it destroys data. I am amazed that this bug is not marked as Critical! Obviously, this affects a great deal of users in a way that is extremely destructive. In my opinion, this bug alone renders Jaunty completely unfit for a production environment! [Bug 61662] Re: Wacom Volito 2 tablet doesn't work
Hi, also getting these problems! Posted the following on the Ubuntu forum, was directed here: I've got a Volito2, which I never got properly working in Dapper (x86) - sometimes it worked in absolute mode but I use it in mouse mode. Just upgraded to Edgy, hoping it might help sort it out, but now not even recognised. I've swapped the new compiled wacom.ko into /lib/modules/2.6.17-10-386/kernel/drivers/usb/input/ .. no joy. grep -i wacom /var/log/messages | tail gives: Feb 2 17:22:57 localhost kernel: [17179612.576000] usbcore: registered new driver wacom Feb 2 17:22:57 localhost kernel: [17179612.58] drivers/usb/input/wacom.c: v1.45:USB Wacom Graphire and Wacom Intuos tablet driver Feb 5 09:42:02 localhost kernel: [17179608.24] usbcore: registered new driver wacom Feb 5 09:42:02 localhost kernel: [17179608.244000] drivers/usb/input/wacom.c: v1.45:USB Wacom Graphire and Wacom Intuos tablet driver Feb 5 09:44:46 localhost kernel: [17179772.456000] input: Wacom Volito2 4x5 as /class/input/input3 Feb 6 10:29:59 localhost kernel: [17179589.436000] wacom: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module Feb 6 10:30:06 localhost kernel: [17179607.904000] wacom: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module If anyone's got any hints would be great ... as I'm starting to get RSI again from using a mouse!
