[Bug 2063888] Re: 24.04 unusable after Gnome-Tweaks change to the mouse pointer

2024-04-27 Thread aki
I also ran into this problem by changing my cursor in gnome-tweaks to
RedGlass (I later confirmed it also happens with other cursor themes, so
seems it is not specific...). I am not sure if this can solve your
problem with 22.04, but for anyone else who runs into this issue and
lands here, I managed to recover by doing the following:

1. entering tty3 (cntrl-alt-f3)

2. logging in,

3. and then running the following to reset the cursor theme:

```
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-theme 'Yaru'
```

4. then reboot with `sudo reboot 0`.

I don't know the cause, but hopefully this advice can help somebody...

John,

Unfortunately the chip is unmarked except for the letters "V3" and a dot to
mark a corner. It's QFP88 package of some kind.

Hi John,

The webcam in my trace is

The pcie card that looks identical to this one

I could mail you one of each if you're interested in working on a fix.

[Bug 1749961] Re: xhci_hcd: TRB DMA errors reported with ASMedia ASM1142 USB 3.1 Controller

2020-04-03 Thread Aki Nyrhinen
I'm also getting the above errors when trying to read from a 1080p60
USB3 webcam. It seems I have some information not mentioned above.

[8.822044] usb 4-2: new SuperSpeed Gen 1 USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
[8.851879] usb 4-2: New USB device found, idVendor=15aa, idProduct=1555,
bcdDevice=10.02
[8.851883] usb 4-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
[8.851886] usb 4-2: Product: 3.0 USB Camera

When opening /dev/video0 with an application, I immediatelly get the
following error repeatedly (but event-dma increments by 0x10 each line),
as seems to be the case for everyone.

[ 54.007465] xhci_hcd :01:00.0: ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part
of current TD ep_index 2 comp_code 13
[ 54.010154] xhci_hcd :01:00.0: Looking for event-dma 000849690010
trb-start 00084969 trb-end 00084969 seg-start 00084969
seg-end 000849690ff0

I added some previously posted diagnostic code from Mathias Nyman to
drivers/usb/host/xhci-ring.c, and got the following, which is similar to
previously reported bug with some ASMedia chip, but seems to be missing
transfer events much more frequently. It seems to be missing a "Transfer
Event" after each "Normal" packet. It's not about the LINK TRB because
it doesn't work for long enough to get to it (there's plenty of zeroed
out descriptors at the end of both rings, which I've omitted).

This is likely an ASMedia firmware/hardware issue, though this card (&
camera) works fine on the same machine when running Windows. I saw
mentions that ASMedia would be releasing a firmware fix, but I've
updated to what I believe to be the latest and it didn't help at all.
Has anyone found a firmware that works?

Attached dmesg also contains the event & endpoint ring dumps

[Bug 1772014] [NEW] netcat-openbsd does not allow setting source port

2018-05-18 Thread Aki Rossi
Public bug reported:

When connecting to a remote host, both the command-line help and man-
page state that specifying `-p` will set the local port number. However,
when I actually attempt to do it, only the usage text is printed:

$ nc.openbsd -p 12345 localhost 12345
usage: nc [-46CDdFhklNnrStUuvZz] [-I length] [-i interval] [-M ttl]
   [-m minttl] [-O length] [-P proxy_username] [-p source_port]
   [-q seconds] [-s source] [-T keyword] [-V rtable] [-W recvlimit] [-w timeout]
   [-X proxy_protocol] [-x proxy_address[:port]] [destination] [port]

This appears to be caused by an erroneous check on line 541 of netcat.c,
introduced by `misc-failures-and-features.patch`. If I remove the check
or undo the patch completely, the source port is set correctly, but
remains bound after I close the connection. Meanwhile, netcat-
traditional works as expected.

** Affects: netcat-openbsd (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Description changed:

When connecting to a remote host, both the command-line help and man-

remains bound after I close the connection. Meanwhile, netcat-

[Bug 1590844] Re: Call with Bluetooth headset not working [Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition]

2017-02-09 Thread akI
There was a small update OTA-15 for my MEIZU Pro5 and i immediately checked out
the bluetooth functionality.
Its still the same issue.

Meanwhile i had installed flymeOS back to my second Pro5 and flymeOS can
receive and send phonecalls nice and clear so this is for sure an ubuntu
issue.

[Bug 1590844] Re: Bluetooth headset not working with Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition

2016-10-22 Thread akI
I just wanted to say that i can confirm that issue on the Pro5.
I have two Pro5 and also a MX4.

The MX4 works fine in my car when connected to the bluetooth (well except that
sometimes the mic gets muted for whatever reason)
Both Pro5 instead cant be used for telephoning in the car by connected through
BT.
You can only hear soughing instead of the participant so its not useable.

As this bug is on critical anyway i dont need to state again that this
is a major one.

If i can do anything to help you guys please let me know, like i said i
have a working BT on MX4 and soughing BT on both Pro5.

This problem can be fixed by editing file

/usr/share/themes/oxygen-gtk/gtk-3.0/kdeglobals

and changing

BackgroundNormal=24,21,19

to

BackgroundNormal=255,255,255

The new tab description (tooltip?) background will be white.

[Bug 1575301] Re: GPU Hang [i915 / drm] crashes whole session; triggered by LibreOffice dialog boxes (regression)

2016-08-16 Thread Aki Vehtari
Installing xserver-xorg-video-intel fixes the crashes, but then the
display is not always refreshed properly. This happens most often when
changing tabs in Chrome, so that when I change the tab the display is
not updated or only partially updated. Thus installing xserver-xorg-
video-intel is not a working solution for me.

[Bug 1576051] [NEW] Duplicity cannot handle sparse files efficiently

2016-04-28 Thread Aki Tuomi
Public bug reported:

When running backup with duplicity, it cannot handle sparse files
efficiently.

I have a virtual machine image on my home dir,

26G -rw-r--r-- 1 libvirt-qemu kvm 33G huhti 28 08:59 dev02.img

And duplicity is backing it up 33G, when it should only back up 26G.

Steps to reproduce

1. Use qemu-image to create a sparse file
2. Run duplicity
3. Observe duplicity back it up whole instead of very small size

[Bug 1561452] Re: Cannot activate third display

2016-03-25 Thread Aki Tuomi
After much experimenting, the problem seems to be with the nvidia
driver. Updating it to nvidia-361 made *this* problem go away, except it
renamed all outputs, refused to show anything on eDP-1 and made the
whole thing hung in 5 minutes after reboot. Reverted to 15.10 which has
less difficulties.

[Bug 1561452] Re: Cannot activate third display

2016-03-25 Thread Aki Tuomi
Clarification on last comment, it did show black screen on eDP-1, which
changed to having image if one logged out. After logging in, it turned
into black screen with garbled 2mm band at top of the screen. Mouse was
displayed on the screen if moved there, but as I said, the entire
machine tended to hung completely in about 5 minutes, so I could not do
that much testing.

[Bug 1525119] Re: Cannot permit some operations for sssd

2015-12-12 Thread Aki Tuomi
I think I'm happy that it's been fixed. I was able to figure out the
"root cause" for the troubles, so I don't need aa-genprof and aa-
logprof at all for this. It is bit bad though that there is no tool that
would just show you the rules it would generate instead of updating
profile directory.

[Bug 1525119] Re: Cannot permit some operations for sssd

2015-12-11 Thread Aki Tuomi
The version is, as provided in the initial message,

apparmor version 2.8.95~2430-0ubuntu5.3

Dec 11 10:24:07 gw-dc01 kernel: [2214272.912766] type=1400
audit(1449822247.549:21251): apparmor="ALLOWED" operation="file_inherit"
profile="/usr/sbin/sssd//null-45" name="/var/log/sssd/ldap_child.log"
pid=7112 comm="nsupdate" requested_mask="" denied_mask="" fsuid=0 ouid=0

I was able to make this all work by creating profile for
/usr/bin/nsupdate and adding rule /usr/bin/nsupdate rmpx

I'll try to see if testing latest AppArmor is doable.

You seem to have responded to an old, closed bug that's unrelated to
your problem. You're much more likely to find help if you bring this
up on the forums or (if you can debug this further than it doesn't
work) file a new bug report about your audio ordeals.

The dlz driver provided in samba package for trusty (14.04 LTS) has
wrong headers for bind 9.9.5 distributed with Trusty (14.04 LTS),
preventing the DLZ from being loaded in Bind9. This is definately a bug.

Re: [Bug 1040557] Re: UEFI boot live-usb bricks SAMSUNG 530U3C, np700z5c laptop

2014-05-23 Thread Aki Rossi
Blacklisting the samsung-laptop module in UEFI mode fixes the related but
separate issue of the kernel crashing on bootup. The root cause of the
bricking was that Samsung's firmware had an undocumented requirement of 5KB
of free UEFI variable space to be able to start up. The kernel crash would
cause a log dump, which could cause the variable store to be filled beyond
this limit. (Matthew Garrett provided a more detailed report in his blog
last year: http://mjg59.dreamwidth.org/25091.html )

Handling of UEFI variables was changed in the kernel (in Ubuntu 13.10 and
newer), and Samsung supposedly made fixes to their firmware, so the
bricking issue is fixed. As far as this bug is concerned, the installation
procedure is to update your firmware to the newest version and then install
Ubuntu as usual.

Driver support for particular laptop models should probably be addressed in
separate bug reports.

Re: [Bug 1040557] Re: UEFI boot live-usb bricks SAMSUNG 530U3C, np700z5c laptop

2014-05-23 Thread Aki Rossi
No. Despite not directly causing the bricking, the samsung-laptop driver
will only work in CMS mode and will cause random and potentially very bad
problems when running under UEFI. The driver support issue is separate from
this bug.

On 23 May 2014 22:59, Val 1040...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:

@Aki Rossi: if handling of UEFI variables was changed in Ubuntu 13.10 to
prevent tickling this bug and (supposedly) the newer Samsung firmware is
not vulnerable to this bug, is it now good time to remove the samsung-
 laptop driver from blacklist?

[Bug 1033263] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 freezes with nvidia drivers

2013-04-14 Thread akI
I can confirm this on 12.04 LTS and also on 12.10 with a very fresh
install of ubuntu.

Its absolutely regardless which nvidia driver i activate (current,
current-updates, experimental) the desktop freezes randomly with ativated
nvidia driver.
Sometimes the system freezes complete, desktop, mouse and keyboard are stocked.
Sometimes only the keyboard and desktop freezes. and i can move the cursor but
are not able to make the dekstop response do any kind of mouse interacting.

If i change back to NV driver the system runs stable.

Also this only happens the very first boot on the day. If i restart my system i
can run it for hours without any problem.
For now i have deactivated the nvidia drivers, hopefully someone can fix this.

I also can confirm (but im not sure) that this must have to do with
unity as im running a dualboot system with 12.04 LTS and Ubuntu Studio
12.10. On Ubuntu Studio which uses XFCE the system runs stable with the
latest nvidia driver activated.

Re: [Bug 1040557] Re: UEFI boot live-usb bricks SAMSUNG 530U3C, np700z5c laptop

Samsung have published a BIOS update, version 1.0.0.3, which should
 correct the underlying problem.

So possibly the Linux installation procedure could now be amended to:

 a) check whether the computer has a samsung bios lower 1.0.0.3

How does one determine this for a given model? For the 530U3C, I just
received a firmware update carrying the version P12AAJ, which seems to be
the only version number reported anywhere.

[Bug 736743] Re: environment block not implemented on btrfs

2013-02-21 Thread Aki Rossi
I can't speak for Ubuntu maintainers, but this _is_ a wishlist-priority
bug concerning a file system that's still considered experimental, and a
patch was recognised just under a month ago. I've been annoyed by this
bug as well, but I doubt a little patience will kill anyone at this
point.

[Bug 1040557] Re: UEFI boot live-usb bricks SAMSUNG 530U3C, np700z5c laptop

2013-01-07 Thread Aki Rossi
Samsung has prepared a test patch internally which is not yet ready for
 rollout to users.

Are there any further details on this? I just flashed a new firmware
update (P09AAJ) but I can't seem to be able to find a changelog
anywhere.

Please create a new bug report with hardware details + step-by-step

[Bug 310910] Re: Snap lines not deleting in OOo Draw

2008-12-23 Thread Aki Utoslahti
No problem mate. Thank you a lot for filling the missing info!

** Description changed:

  To recreate this bug:

  1) Open Open Office.org Draw
  2) Make sure that snap lines are visible from the view menu.
  3) Insert a snap line (Insert-Insert Snap Point/Line...)
  4) There are two minor variations on the bug:

  a) Right click the snap line, and choose Edit Snap Line... from the drop
down menu. Type in a new value, and click OK... this will actually create a
NEW snap line, and leave the old one where it was. This is not a drawing
error (though OOo is full of those) - both the old and new snap lines are hot
zones, and things still snap to both of them.
  b) Right click the snap line, and choose Delete Snap Line from the drop
down menu. The snap line will just remain where it is.

I've tried saving the file and reopening it... Inserting new pages, etc.
etc. but the problem is persistent. Once you have a snap line in OOo
Draw, it's currently there forever, and the only way to move it in
manually. That's totally unnacceptable for the kind of precise DTP work
I want to use it for (things need to be exactly where I want them on the
page, exactly in line for printing and aesthetic purposes).

I am using Ubuntu 7.10. Not sure what version of Pidgin I'm using as it
  won't appear.

When I click on the Pidgin icon, a task appears Starting Pidgin
Inern... for about 10 seconds and then disappears. When I check the
  processes, I see pidgin running:

nathan...@sundesk:~$ ps -ef | grep pidgin

  1000 12366 12348 0 09:50 pts/000:00:00 grep pidgin

But no window appears. This problem comes up from time to time and then
  fixes itself.

I use a dual monitor setup but I often boot up with only one monitor as
the other monitor is the TV. Could pidgin be confused about where to
  appear?

Thanks for filing a bug report. The missing feature for toggling

of virt-manager. A feature nice indeed it would be for laptop users.
Because virt-manager is a project from RedHat, it would be more right
place to file a bug request to RedHat bugzilla, instead of Ubuntu bugs.

Thanks for reporting a bug. Your bugreport is missing a package version.
For developers knowing a version of package is a must to have, before
they can begin working with a bug. If possible could you edit the
bugreport and include version of pidgin in your use. You can do it by
opening Applications - Accessories - Terminal, and typing the following
command there:

piding -v

[Bug 199408] [NEW] Evolution crashes on malformed vcard

2008-03-07 Thread Aki Niemi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When receiving an email with a malformed vcard attachment, Evolution
crashes with this output:

inside eab_vcard_control_new

(evolution:2679): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_ascii_strcasecmp: assertion `s1 !=
NULL' failed

(evolution:2679): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_ascii_strcasecmp: assertion `s1 != NULL'
failed
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Attached the vcard (info sanitized), that reproduces the crash.

The problem with the vcard is that it has no \r\n after the attributes.

[Bug 151099] Re: [GUTSY] Unable to mount NTFS partition

2007-12-02 Thread Aki Rossi
This is apparently a symptom of this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/gutsy/+source/evms/+bug/109320

A working solution (for me) was to remove evms and all packages
associated with it. Now all NTFS volumes mount nicely at bootup.
