[Bug 2065739] [NEW] Unnattended upgrades take a long time due to excessive running of "apt-check"
Public bug reported: The unattended upgrade services runs "apt-check" to update the MOTD where a summary of available updates is displayed. It does this after every package that is installed. Unfortunately, apt-check is extremely expensive - it takes about 15 seconds to run. If you have a computer that is infrequently used, you may have as many as 300 available updates. Unattended upgrade will therefore run apt- check 300 times. This takes 1 hour 15 minutes, during which time no packages are actually installed. Suppose you turn on your computer once a week to do something like pay some bills. It takes 5 minutes. Then you have to wait 2 hours before you can turn it off. Every time. [Bug 2063869] [NEW] Missing default cursor
Public bug reported: After upgrading from Ubuntu 23.10 to 24.04, the DMZ-White mouse pointer works correctly when the pointer is over a window, but shows a pale grey square when over the desktop or Ubuntu top bar. [Bug 1965468] Re: refresh app awareness: snapd thinks clion is running, but it isn't
Okay I found the problem - a detached tmux session was still running inside the container. The way you actually find this is to run `systemctl-cgls` and then look for the cgroup belonging to the snap. It will be something like `snap.clion.clion.e566369e-6a51-4497-84ba-d4f52f65291b.scope` and the processes running inside it will be listed directly below. [Bug 1956835] Re: package linux-firmware 1.187.24 failed to install/upgrade: installed linux-firmware package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1
I have ZFS (ZSYS) installed and the snapshots on a laptop can fill up the space. I was able to free up the disk space by loading the zsys config file (not installed by default) and reduce the number of "keep" snapshots. ZSYS assumes that it is running on a machine that is up most of the time, but if it is not, then there can be large changes (kernel updates) within more than expected snapshots, hence space fills up faster than may have been expected. The actual space available to /boot is 2G, but when the snapshots don't get garbage collected, the free space gets too small for updates to run. zsys assumptions and garbage collection default rules need to be re-considered based on usage, even if it is just described in the man/info pages, rather than needing to look them up in didrocks blogs (again). If the problem was caused by lack of /boot space, close this bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1956835 Title: package linux-firmware 1.187.24 failed to install/upgrade: installed linux-firmware package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1956835/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1945587] [NEW] Double click on calendar item views rather than edits
Public bug reported: Not sure if this is a bug, or new intended behaviour. In Thunderbird 78, double clicking on a calendar item showed its edit dialog. In Thunderbird 91, double clicking on a calendar item shows a summary dialog, and you then have to click on the edit button to edit it. Since you almost always want to edit rather than view, this is less convenient. If this is an intended behaviour, it would be good to have a configuration setting to disable it, and go directly to the edit dialog. [Bug 1945200] [NEW] Updates to Google Calender succeed but produce MODIFICATION_FAILED error
Public bug reported: After upgrading to Ubuntu 21.10 and Thunderbird 1:78.13.0+build1-0ubuntu2, creating, updating, or deleting events in Google Calendar often produces a MODIFICATION_FAILED error, but succeeds anyway. The events are shown in the Google Calendar web interface, and exiting and restarting Thunderbird shows them locally. This problem seems to only happen if Thunderbird has been running for a while (overnight, for example). It never seems to happen immediately after restarting Thunderbird. Perhaps Thunderbird's connection to Google is getting stuck after a while? I am using hotel internet access, which is not always the most reliable or consistent, and I have noticed this problem on two different hotel networks in the last few days. This problem did not happen on Ubuntu 21.04 and whatever version of Thunderbird it uses. Specifically by using udev_enumerate_scan_devices. When usbmon module is loaded, some new device nodes are created for the monitor endpoints. They are only readable by root. When Chromium scans for normal USB devices, it finds the monitors and tries to probe them. Apparmor blocks it, which causes udev_enumerate_scan_devices to fail. Impact: There is no way for the user to know this error has occurred unless they happen to be watching dmesg or the stderr of Chromium (which requires they ran it from a terminal). Unless they check both of these places and realize that the error messages are connected, Chromium will just appear to behave as if there are no USB devices connected to the system at all. If the user does realize that usbmon is causing a problem, they must restart Chromium after unloading it, because it will not retry if enumeration ever fails. ** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Version: chromium 87.0.4280.66 1411 - Steps to reproduce: 1. [Bug 1905457] [NEW] [snap] Chromium can enumerate USB devices without the raw-usb plug
Public bug reported: Version: chromium 87.0.4280.66 1411 Steps to reproduce: 1. Have Chromium snap, with raw-usb plug disconnected. 2. Open Chromium and try to use a webpage that has webusb. Result: USB.getDevices() and USB.requestDevice() will succeed but USBDevice.open() will fail, emitting "DOMException: Permission Denied" on the browser console. Or, put another way, you can select a USB device that you want the webpage to use, but it is impossible for the webpage to actually use it. Why this happens: Chromium enumerates USB devices by querying udev. It does not require elevated permissions beyond the snap defaults in order to do this. So it can retrieve a list of USB devices even without raw-usb. Impact: It is impossible to access the USB devices until the raw-usb plug is connected. However, to a normal user, it appears that Chromium already has USB permissions because it can enumerate devices. The webusb API is in a confusing, partially-working state, and there is nothing to indicate that Chromium needs additional permissions in order for it to fully work. ** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1905457 Title: [snap] Chromium can enumerate USB devices without the raw-usb plug To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1905457/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1893655] Re: Headphones connect but don't appear in the audio devices list
I logged out, and logged in again using regular Ubuntu, and the same happens. When I switch the headphones on, the Bluetooth settings show the headphones connected for a second or so, then disconnected.
