[Bug 799997] Re: error happen when using virsh to start a vm internal error cannot generate AppArmor profile

2012-12-29 Thread Dale Amon
Note: This is time critical. If I cannot find a solution within the next
couple days, I will have to either rip apparmor out by the roots or
switch to Debian... a week from now I will be 8000 miles from this
machine, so by definition it will be operating properly before then...

[Bug 799997] Re: error happen when using virsh to start a vm internal error cannot generate AppArmor profile

2012-12-29 Thread Dale Amon
Oh my. I would call that a bug. True, I can do a workaround to cover my
immediate emergency, I will probably have to change my disk structure
since the root disk is intentionally pretty small... but what if I were
running hundreds or thousands of VM's? And even worse, on another system
(which is fortunately Debian), different groups of users have their own
private disks with multiple VM's on each,

I really think this needs to be fixed.

2012-12-29 Thread Dale Amon
I would worry that my small complaints are the least of your worries. If
someone with a very large farm of VM's happens to update to this
version... you could be hearing from someone with thousands of screaming
customers. It would not be surprising to me if someone with large
systems had their own internal standards for where their VM pools go. It
is not necessarily the case that everyone is going to choose /srv.

[Bug 799997] Re: error happen when using virsh to start a vm internal error cannot generate AppArmor profile

2012-12-29 Thread Dale Amon
Okay, I used the suggested hack and changed my mount point from lib4 to
srv. I have my VM up so I am sorted. But I only have a handful. I would
hate to be in shoes of the person responsible for this change if someone
is so foolish as to upgrade a critical system without lab testing the
upgrade first. So if I were you, I would worry about that guy...

[Bug 799997] Re: error happen when using virsh to start a vm internal error cannot generate AppArmor profile

2012-12-28 Thread Dale Amon
I have the same issue. I brought up a machine with a de novo install of
Quantal server amd64.

I transferred a VM from the old server that is out of service by moving the
disk containing. Made the one edit
change to the xml of the VM so that path to its main disk was correct in the
new environment.

virsh define xml/hostname.xml

and I got the same problems as discussed. I thought perhaps apparmor did not
like my /lib4/vmpool1, which is where
the images reside, so I added to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.libvirt.virt-aa-helper

  /lib4/vmpool1/ r,
  /lib4/vmpool1/** r,

but that did nothing either. Something is very wrong. This should have
just *worked*, first try, no fiddling.

[Bug 919666] [NEW] configuratoin example uses authentication and encryption parameters which may not be available

2012-01-21 Thread Dale Amon
Public bug reported:

If you uncomment the example for d_net and use the line as is, it will fail:
Error parsing afsocket, syntax error, unexpected LL_IDENTIFIER, expecting ')'
in /etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf at line 78, column 48:

destination d_net { tcp(127.0.0.1 port(1000) authentication(on) encrypt(on)
log_fifo_size(1000)); };

 ^^

The same with encrypt(on), but if you remove both it will work. I
suspect these features on not available in the binary released by
Ubuntu.

[Bug 351253] Re: Firefox (update) lost my open tabs

2010-02-18 Thread Dale Amon
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 309656 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/309656

I hit the same bug. Usually if there is a problem I can simply take the
sessionstore.bak file and overwrite sessionstore.js to recover but that
is not working.

I really need to get this all back because I have two Firefox windows,
each with about 10-15 open tabs related to my work that is pending or
current.

I notice that every time ff closes it blows away the sessionstore.js
file rather than writing writing out to it, or at least that was the
action without adding any new tabs to the default window. Every time I
start it I get

-rw--- 1 amon amon 167995 2010-02-18 13:37 sessionstore.bak2
-rw--- 1 amon amon 486 2010-02-18 14:00 sessionstore.js

even when I have recreated sessionstore.bak and sessionstore.js from the
'real' backup, bak2.

[Bug 309656] Re: Firefox does not restore session after update

2010-02-18 Thread Dale Amon
I have a recovery process for you, but it requires that you have
immediately saved your old sessionstore.bak, or have a way to get one
from your company backup system.

cd .mozilla/firefox/your current profile/

your current profile will probably have a name like
'wzy9plsu.default'. If there are more than one check the dates.

you should find that you have a file named sessionstore.bak. Immediately
save a copy of it

cp -a sessionstore.bak sessionstore.bak2

Now start up firefox. Create a new tab. Exit firefox and tell it to save tabs.
Then overwrite the
file firefox just created:

cp -a sessionstore.bak2 sessionstore.js

restart firefox and if you had the correct backup file, your sesions
should be back.

My guess is there is a flag somewhere else that says to firefox that it
has a 'virgin' install, and until you cause that to get cleared, it will
not pay attention to old contents of sessionstore.js or use the usual
sessionstore.bak.

Hope this saves a few people some grief.

[Bug 69516] Re: /dev/null: Permission denied

2009-12-25 Thread Dale Amon
Same problem in karmic. There are no rc files for udev. I can delete and
do the mknod to correct it but it goes away on reboot. I have gone
through my root .bash* files and removed umask just in case. rm'ing the
file, doing the mknod with 0666 and manually restarting through init.d
scripts gives me 0644; doing the same and using service udev restart
leaves it as 0666. However a reboot sets it back to 0660.

Ideas?

[Bug 433928] Re: gdm-binary[2671]: WARNING: Unable to find users: no seat-id found

2009-12-20 Thread Dale Amon
I have the same problem here (amongst others). I have both error
messages discussed. The first is in the normal logs from the boot up:

Dec 20 20:57:38 mourne console-kit-daemon[875]: WARNING: Couldn't read
/proc/858/environ: Failed to open file '/proc/858/environ': No such
file or directory

I manually stopped and started gdm via an ssh root log in and got this
message:

Dec 20 21:55:19 mourne gdm-binary[1781]: WARNING: Unable to find users: no
seat-id found
Dec 20 21:55:20 mourne gdm-binary[1781]: WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted
0.447894 seconds

I do not know if it is connected, but this is a dedicated file server and at
some point since I did updates last night it locked up. I could no longer get
an ssh login but it was still pingable.

I have also had the seperate issue for well over a year that the vt's in
Ubuntu simply do not work on this machine. No idea what they did to
break them but suspect it is the use of graphics instead of dumb ascii
as this is a circa 1999-2000 motherboard.

[Bug 110299] Re: Intel 82945G/GZ card freezes computer

2007-10-31 Thread Cris Amon

libpng version 1.2.15~beta5-2ubuntu0.1.

Last weekend my system comes back freezing. I saw menu.lst and noapic
nolapic option had been removed (i don't know why). So I have put
options again and system seems to go ok again. At my place the problem
really was solved with these options.

[Bug 110299] Re: Intel 82945G/GZ card freezes computer

2007-10-27 Thread Cris Amon

Vidak,

After a libpng update and noapic nolapic option my system seems to go
perfect. No freezes with 3D screensavers and heavy compiz effects
(including animations plugins). You could try just noapic' option.

[Bug 110299] Re: Intel 82945G/GZ card freezes computer

2007-10-25 Thread Cris Amon

I've run the memtest and my memory is perfect, no errors. Microsoft Windows XP
runs with no troubles in my laptop, so is not a bad memory problem.

Vidak, Can you try noapic nolapic options at boot (you can add at the
end of boot options in menu.lst). I've added and no troubles happens
anymore, for one hour ... :-). Please, let me know your results.

[Bug 110299] Re: Intel 82945G/GZ card freezes computer

2007-10-24 Thread Cris Amon

I've found at another bug comments about a similar trouble with ATI X300 Card.

I have the suspicion that it is the Animations plugin that causes the
freeze when one of the effects are activated (perhaps some pointer goes
spoink). If this is the case, then further investigation would be to
identify which animation is to blame.

So far I have deactivated the animations plugin and it seems to go ok
:-)

I've not tried yet ..

[Bug 110299] Re: Intel 82945G/GZ card freezes computer

2007-10-24 Thread Cris Amon

I have deactivated animations plugin and the problem still happens. I think
that it's a problem with intel driver. Maybe a conflict with power management
system because most of troubles happens after a period of time without user
interaction.

[Bug 110299] Re: Intel 82945G/GZ card freezes computer

2007-10-19 Thread Cris Amon
The same happens to me with Gutsy installed. I'm running on a MSI M660
with a graphic card Intel, chipset 945GM Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express
Integrated Graphics Controller. System freezes with 3D Screensavers and
at randon times with Compiz enabled.
