[Bug 1876487] Re: The screen is blinking at a random time

2020-05-04 Thread Andrew G. Saushkin
Thanks for your advice, I'll try to get the journal next time.

Unfortunately, this bug appearing not so often, and changing my desktop
environment and be awaiting it around a couple of couple weeks is not
very convenient for me. I'd suggest thinking about other ways of testing
than the first two.

It looks like visual bell goes crazy (but I'm not sure in that). And
yes, I love visual bell and usually do enable visual bell instead of
audio bell.

[Bug 1876487] [NEW] The screen is blinking at a random time

2020-05-02 Thread Andrew G. Saushkin
Public bug reported:

I've seen this error on Dell Latitude E7270 (with an internal video
card) as well as Dell Precision 7540 (with NVidia card).

I've seen this error on Ubuntu 18.04 and now on 20.04

I've never reported it yet but I think the time has come.

In a random time (~ once a couple of weeks) I see a blinking screen.
Today I've recorded a video on my phone to show you how it looks.

You can see it here: https://youtu.be/JiUu7Ydg6uM

This is bug finishes when I do logout from my desktop. Could you help me
eliminate this error?

[Bug 751057] Re: grub-pc upgrade on Amazon EC2: The GRUB boot loader was previously installed to a disk that is no longer present, or whose unique identifier has changed for some reason.

2020-04-24 Thread Andrew G. Saushkin
I've noticed that this bug appears only on several instance types such
as t3, r5 but t2 instances are not affected by this bug.

The fresh installation of Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS (HVM), SSD Volume Type
(64-bit x86) (ami-0d1cd67c26f5fca19) causes error while `apt-get
upgrade` with pc-grub on the t3 and r5 while t2 instances are not
affected.

[Bug 1830496] [NEW] Ghostscript 9.26 does not set bounding box correctly

2019-05-25 Thread Andrew G
Public bug reported:

Ghostscript 9.26 in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS has a bug which causes wrongly
sized boundary boxes in output from epstool. This appears to a single-
line typing mistake that has been fixed in Ghostscript 9.27. Could
Ghostscript 9.26 (used in 18.04 LTS) be patched?

Details of bug and fix are here:
https://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=700306

Bug 700306: Fix values returned by bbox device.

The "any part of a pixel" code in the new scan converter holds a
"cursor" position that determines where edges intersect with
the scanlines. The leftmost and rightmost positions of intersection
are held in this as values of type fixed.

The "null" cursor position is represented by using maximal/minimal
values. Unfortunately, I used {max,min}_int_in_fixed, rather than
{max,min}_fixed, which meant they weren't nearly as maximal/minimal
as they ought to have been.

[Bug 1322407] Re: NFS kernel server creates a kworker with 100% CPU usage, then hangs randomly

2014-07-11 Thread Andrew G Meyer
Using henrix's -proposed kernel appears to resolve the issue for me.

Under 3.13.0-32-generic #56-Ubuntu, Kworker is no longer running away,
whereas before under *.30-generic #55 it was.

My setup is a server with a nfs client on a KVM VM coming in over
openvswitch. Restarting the NFS client VM seemed to hang the NFS daemon
on the server, and Kworker was running away.

I replicated that same scenario, and everything appears to be working
correctly now. The only difference was that there was a significant
amount of NFS activity that I didn't recreate, but as I said, everything
appears normal now.

[Bug 997671] [NEW] [Ubuntu 12.04, N10/ICH 7, Green Headphone Out, Front] No sound at all

Public bug reported:

Not working the front audio jack in Ubuntu 12.04 fresh installation. The

audio output is working. What diagnostic measures should I do to get
more information?

If I run the Ubuntu 11.10 with a live USB of flash, the front audio jack
works fine.

[Bug 876947] Re: setEnabled(False) does not work on menu actions

2011-10-24 Thread Andrew G
I spoke too soon - the bug applies not just to menu bar entries, but
also to their drop down entries (i.e setEnabled(False) does not work on
QAction objects). Qercus cannot be used reliably on Unity until this is
fixed.

Andrew.

[Bug 876947] Re: setEnabled(False) does not work on menu actions

2011-10-18 Thread Andrew G
Example of non-working code:

class QercusApp(QtGui.QMainWindow):

self.functionMenu = QtGui.QMenu(self.tr(Functions), self)
self.functionMenu.addAction(self.overviewAct)

self.menuBar().addMenu(self.functionMenu)

## This line has no effect on Unity (but is ok on Kubuntu).
self.functionMenu.setEnabled(False)

I will soon release program Qercus 0.23b2 - which will delete rather than
disable unwanted entries in the menu bar. This looks neater anyway. So fixing
this bug is not a priority for me.

Andrew.

[Bug 876947] [NEW] setEnabled(False) does not work on menu actions

2011-10-17 Thread Andrew G
Public bug reported:

This is reported as a Qt-bug (link below), but was closed as it seems to be a
bug in the Unity desktop (in both Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10). As far as I can see
it has not been followed up. Sorry I am not able to say exactly which package
the bug is in.

The bug prevents database program Qercus (Python + PyQt4) from working
correctly with the Unity desktop.

[Bug 873511] [NEW] Broadcom BCM43224 (0596) Wifi card not working out of box

2011-10-13 Thread Andrew G
Public bug reported:

System: Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with AMD processor. Ubuntu 11.10 (64-bit)
If jockey-gtk is used to install the proprietary Broadcom STA driver the
BCM43224 Wifi card does not work.

Typing
sudo lshw -C network
shows that the bcma driver is used (rather than the wl driver) - this is why
the card does not work.

There is an easy fix by editing a conf file:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
and add blacklist bcma

Then reboot.

[Bug 297424] [NEW] black screen after log-in caused by compiz

2008-11-12 Thread Andrew G
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz-core

Everytime I log in Ubuntu 8.10, i get a black screen. It's caused by the
compiz, and compiz-core packages. when i delete them in rescure mode, i
am able to log in.

Here's my system:
Sony VAIO
Intel Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz
768 MB memory
80 GB + 17.2 GB HDD
Built in 2003

Note: Compiz worked fine with my computer in 8.04.

This is the first time i reported a bug, so i hope i'm not doing
anything wrong.

Would really appreciate a fix, because this makes the Live CD unbootable
for me.
