I found the reason of the crashes using strace: Some files iIn /usr/local/share misses world readability. After changing the permissiones kcmshell4 filetypes works as aspected. So the remaining problem is, that kcmshell crashes instead of returning a meaningfull error message in such a situation. I observed the following: After upgrading to kernel 2.3.0-36 on my desktop and on my laptop I often see that fsck clears orphaned inodes on ext4-filesystems when I reboot. I didn't saw that before the upgrade. Till, I reinstalled hplip and hplip-gui again and created an new queue with a different name, but the errors remain and printing didn't work. I followed Till's advice. If I tried to print a testpage and did "lpq" I saw that my Laserjet 1300 ist ready and printing, but nothing happened. I installed the new hal-cups-utils package. Now hptoolbox can see the status of the printer. But printing still doesn't work.
