[Bug 205478] Re: Can't switch between consoles

2008-03-27 Thread angrykeyboarder
When you switch from X to any other console does that console display
your login prompt or is the screen blank? I think this might be related
to a problem I'm having lately. I've not yet filed a bug report. I was
looking to see if there was one already filed.

When I switch from X to another console the screen on that console is
blank except for a cursor that is randomly positioned on the screen.
There is otherwise nothing on the screen. There is no command prompt.

When I first noticed this bug I could not move between consoles at all.
I've since been able to do that but I don't get any kind of command
prompt on consoles 1-6. I am able to switch back to 7 (and X) however.

This is in Hardy i386.

In my caee the crash occurred after I had added a bunch of new themes
(manually untarred into ~/.themes). I then opened gnome-appearance-
properties, scrolled through some themes and it crashed.

[Bug 205817] [NEW] [Hardy] DMA not enabled on cdrom drive

2008-03-23 Thread angrykeyboarder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.24

When I launched k3b today it informed me that DMA was disabled on one of
my DVD drives (Pioneer DVR-111C). This has not been a problem in the
past. It was always enabled by default on this drive (as well as my
other TSSTCorp DVD Drive).

I had to manually enable it.

This should not be the case.

I can confirm this.

The one exception to this, is if you click on the Computer entry on
the Places menu in GNIOME. That opens in Nautilus. But any other
folder in Nautilus opens in Thunar.

[Bug 195641] [NEW] [Hardy] linux-image-virtual does not depend on latest kernel

2008-02-25 Thread angrykeyboarder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-virtual

I'm running Hardy in a virtual machine and decided to switch from the
generic, to the virtual kernel.

I installed linux-image-virtual and wound up with linux-
image-2.6.24-virtual instead of linux-image-2.6.24.10 (which as of this
writing, was the latest kernel available in the hardy repositories).

Re: [Bug 157642] Re: gimp 2.4 *final* in gutsy

2008-01-13 Thread angrykeyboarder
dAniel hAhler spake thusly:
I've asked on #ubuntu-devel about whether we should provide the stable
 release through -updates or -backports.
The consensus has been that there should be a list of high-impact (SRU-able)
bugs and only those should then get addressed.
Having a release candidate is not professional is apparently no argument
 really.

That's *not* what he said. It's not a release candidate, it's a
release conadidate. Please re--read. What do you suppose the devs
would think of a Release Conadidate? I think it's rather
unprofessional (not unlike dAniel hAhler vs Daniel Hahler.).

I can confirm this isn't working.

$sudo apt-get install libgimp-perl

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against

[Bug 36186] Re: Trivial and non-trivial enhancements for bugreport

2007-10-24 Thread angrykeyboarder
Why reportbug even in the archive in it's current state? It serves no
purpose as is.

And what is the logic behind it's sending emails to the Ubuntu Users
mailing list?

reportbug is to report bugs, not to ask questions of other users.

And lastly, how has this package continually migrated from one Ubuntu
version to another?

[Bug 148942] thunderbird 2.0 not compiled with UNIX (movemail) acccount option.

2007-10-04 Thread angrykeyboarder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

This has been present in previous Ubuntu versions of Thunderbird but is
missing now.

To make sure it wasn't Mozilla that removed this, I downloaded the
Mozilla version of Tbird 2.0.0.6 and it indeed does offer a UNIX
(Movemail) local account option.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
Date: Thu Oct 4 05:46:29 2007
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 7.10
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
Package: mozilla-thunderbird 2.0.0.6-0ubuntu4

SourcePackage: thunderbird
Uname: Linux scottbox 2.6.22-12-generic #1 SMP Sun Sep 23 18:11:30 GMT 2007

That doesn't solve the problem.

It's just a workaround.

Neverthless, it's one I didn't know.

Thanks.

OK, I uninstalled the myspell packages. and installed language-pack-en

I'm back to no spellcheck in Thunderbird.

And libhunspell-1.1-0 was (is) installed.

[Bug 147963] [Gutsy] HAL won't start

2007-10-01 Thread angrykeyboarder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

Hal seems to have been broken with the most recent updates.

It won't start and is causing other programs (and their dependants) to
break.

This is a rather grave situation.

I've mentioned recently in other related bugs but it occurred to me that
there wasn't a recent bug (that I could find) for HAL itself.

[Bug 146741] Re: package hal-device-manager 0.5.9.1-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade:

2007-09-30 Thread angrykeyboarder
I'm having the same problem. In my case it's Gutsy/i386 not a dist-
upgrade but a simple upgrade from a previous verson of HAL.

Me thinks the Importance needs to go from undecided to critical.
Anytime yesterday would be fine. ;)

I can't access peripherals (notably an external hard drive) and other
packages are depending on HAL and therefore won't install.

[Bug 133758] Missing DVD burn speed options (6x +)

2007-08-20 Thread angrykeyboarder
Public bug reported:

When burning a 16x DVD-R no options for setting the burn speed are given

no indication as to what Maximum truly ends up being.

[Bug 10856] Re: use mirrorselect or something similar

2007-07-21 Thread angrykeyboarder
I don't necessarily expect to do anything about it any time soon (at
present we're using CC.archive.ubuntu.com, which is sort of an OK
arrangement although not perfect).

What is CC.archive.ubuntu.com? Is that a round-robin bouncer of some sort?
I've never noticed it in a sources.list file.

Do all the *.archive.ubuntu.com mirrors use this?

All I know is when I take a look at the extensive list of Ubuntu mirrors
(on Launchpad or the wiki) that many out there are taking the time,
money and resources to voluntarily maintain for us, we should put them
to use. :)

I suspect the overwhelming majority of *Ubuntu users stick with the
defaults they get at at the outset.

I personally change mine to one of the mirrors that is (luckily) located
in the same city as I am. Needless to say it's much faster than any
*.ubuntu.com site (more often than not).

In addition, the default sources.list file keeps the default
security.ubuntu.com archive regardless of what official Ubuntu mirror is
used (at least in the case of those otherwise with us.archive.ubuntu.com
anyway). I find security.ubuntu.com is often quite slow. And
us.archive.ubuntu.com (as well as the other mirrors - those I've seen
anyway-) mirror the security archive as well.

For example, (at the very least) those who indicate they are in the
United States at the initial Ubuntu install should have something like.:

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ -security ..
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ -security ..

instead of...

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ -security ..
deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ -security ..

..in their sources.list file.

That way security updates would come from the same site as the default,
backports, proposed and updates archives and they would very likely have
quicker downloads.

One thing I've noticed though, is that when I switch everything from an
*.ubuntu.com domain they are treated as third party archives in
synaptic/gnome-app-install/update-manager/software-properties-gtk. This
implies these aren't sources of official Ubuntu packages.

Perhaps that should be a separate bug (if it's not already)?

2007-06-26 Thread angrykeyboarder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I have no way of telling if this is a dupe of one of the many other
similar reports, so my apologies if it is.

I had landed on a web page in Firefox with embedded video (or was it
audio? - I opened it in a background tab. Then the plugin crashed.

[Bug 121379] Konqueror Crashed upon KDE session startup

2007-06-20 Thread angrykeyboarder
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

This was a first time occurance.

I logged out of KDE with Konqueror open on a few web pages (something i
do often).

When logging back in I got an error message. It was something to the
effect of malformed URL 'about:blank . That was immediatly followed
by Konqueror Crashing.

Here is the backtrace:

2007-06-20 Thread angrykeyboarder
It happened a for a second time today. In this instance X had completly
frozen so I had to restart it. Upon restart the rest was identical (for
me) as to what happened before. I have no idea is this backtrace is any
different but in any event.
