even with starting it as root (sudo) it still gives that error.
resolvconf is installed. If i edit the resolv.conf manualy then it
works, if i try edit anything in the nm-connection-manager, it then
throws this error. This the output i get when doing it from command
line. Looking at the connection, the MAC address is blank and the
netmask is set to 24, i can not change the netmask.

Dimitrios, are you asking me to try the SuspendResumeTest again with the
latest version? Has anything changed with the kernel/vbetool since 29th

2008-06-03 Thread Angus
Here's a backtrace of Gedit.

Simply started program and clicked on Open button.

Can open a file through file browser but if I try and do a save as,
program just dies.

Same with Gimp and OO.

2008-11-13 Thread angus
even with starting it as root (sudo) it still gives that error.
resolvconf is installed. If i edit the resolv.conf manualy then it
works, if i try edit anything in the nm-connection-manager, it then
throws this error. This the output i get when doing it from command
line. Looking at the connection, the MAC address is blank and the
netmask is set to 24, i can not change the netmask.

[Bug 295741] [NEW] dbus-daemon memory leak

2008-11-08 Thread Angus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dbus

I have a plasmoid that polls Amarok 2 for information through dbus.
After several hours, I find that dbus-daemon is using several hundred
megabytes of RAM. At last check it was using 800 MB. The only solution
is to log out and log back in. These are the calls that I'm making to
dbus:

qdbus org.kde.amarok /Player GetMetadata
qdbus org.kde.amarok /Player PositionGet
dbus-send --dest='org.kde.amarok' --print-reply /Player
org.freedesktop.MediaPlayer.GetStatus

[Bug 230459] Re: Segmentation fault: Gedit, open office close when creating a new file

2008-06-03 Thread Angus
Here's a backtrace of Gedit.

Simply started program and clicked on Open button.

Can open a file through file browser but if I try and do a save as,
program just dies.

Same with Gimp and OO.

[Bug 295741] [NEW] dbus-daemon memory leak

2008-11-08 Thread Angus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dbus

I have a plasmoid that polls Amarok 2 for information through dbus.
After several hours, I find that dbus-daemon is using several hundred
megabytes of RAM. At last check it was using 800 MB. The only solution

dbus:

qdbus org.kde.amarok /Player GetMetadata

[Bug 269340] Re: resolv.conf, nameservers not properly updated (Was: Not able to connect to network)

2008-11-13 Thread angus
even with starting it as root (sudo) it still gives that error.
resolvconf is installed. If i edit the resolv.conf manualy then it
works, if i try edit anything in the nm-connection-manager, it then
throws this error. This the output i get when doing it from command
line. Looking at the connection, the MAC address is blank and the
netmask is set to 24, i can not change the netmask.

[Bug 295741] [NEW] dbus-daemon memory leak

2008-11-08 Thread Angus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dbus

I have a plasmoid that polls Amarok 2 for information through dbus.
After several hours, I find that dbus-daemon is using several hundred
megabytes of RAM. At last check it was using 800 MB. The only solution
is to log out and log back in. These are the calls that I'm making to
dbus:

qdbus org.kde.amarok /Player GetMetadata
qdbus org.kde.amarok /Player PositionGet
dbus-send --dest='org.kde.amarok' --print-reply /Player

[Bug 348600] Re: 8.10 installs, on reboot get Error 15

2009-05-06 Thread Angus Kerr
I think this bug is the same that I reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+bug/371062

The most likely problem is that you selected VNC as an additional
service, and used non-alphanumeric characters in your password. This
crashes the installer when it configures vnc before it installs grub.

The solution is to not select vnc during installation, or select it and
choose a password that only has alphanumeric characters in it.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 71959] When moving two sets of files in Konqueror the taskbar says "kio_uiserver" rather then "...%... (Moving)"

2006-11-15 Thread Angus Prune
Public bug reported:

If you right click on a file and set it to move somewhere else the
process correctly appears on the taskbar as "blah blah... 10% blah blah
(moving)" or something along those lines.

If you start another set of files moving before the first set has
finished the two process are dropped into one entry on the taskbar which
is titled "kio_uiserver". While I assume this is accurate and
technicaly correct behaviour It is not the expected behaviour.

If multiple move processes are collapsed into one entry then the title
should be perhaps the % of the combined process, or perhaps simply
titled "moving files" or something along these lines

[Bug 46470] Re: System freeze with white screen

2007-10-03 Thread Angus Kerr
Hi

I have the same issue with Feisty (7.04) wih kernel 2.6.20 and all
updates installed.

System freezes to a white screen a few minutes after launch of Firefox
(also up-to-date). The only recovery option is a hard reset. I have not
looked at logs to see what happened in the kernel.

Disabling powernowd (sudo chmod -x /etc/init.d/powernowd) did nothing to
help - the problem is still there. I am running an elitegroup ECS RS-482
Motherboard with built in ATI 200 Graphics card and AMD64 3500 proc.

System is currently unusable (but is rock-steady under Windows XP - runs
for weeks not requiring a reboot). Would love to dump Windows, but need
a stable Ubuntu system. I am considering other options - (Gentoo did not
seem to have this problem)

Please keep this bug open. And anything else I can do on my side to get
to the bottom of this and get the issue resolved.

Thanks

broken in Gutsy without this fixed.

[Bug 131711] Re: [gutsy] no sound: Failed to construct test pipeline in sound recording

2008-04-01 Thread Angus Carr

Using the following sound card:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition
Audio Controller (rev 02)

Fresh Hardy Heron Beta install, I am using the headphone and mic jack on
the front of the system to use my conventional headset.

The machine is a Gateway CX2724.

The behaviour shown is that any application which tries to record from
any microphone immediately hangs and is unable to continue. I usually
xkill them after a few minutes.

The same behaviour is shown under gOS (an ubuntu derivative), and was
shown under Feisty. This is a significant error for me and is preventing
this laptop from being full-time ubuntu.

I am happy to participate in any bug triage and investigation required.

[Bug 210973] [NEW] failed import photos-not responding on close

2008-04-02 Thread Angus Ryer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

My stuff and my experience:
- Dell Optiplex GX260 1.8Ghz/2Gbs RAM
- Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS
- Kodac EasyShare C433
- Plugged it in, it was detected, but no auto-import was initiated (not a
problem, but that functionality was present in 7.10)
- F-Spot gave GUI error ["Could not lock the device" while connecting to
camera] - this is when trying to use the import function in F-spot
- Tried to close the app, but it stopped responding - force-closed it, and thus
the bug report tool came up, so here I am!
---
I attempted to import again from F-Spot, but this time I ran it from the
terminal to see any errors: It Worked!
- Still produced a Segmentation fault when closed though.
---
Tried again, without the terminal: It imported photos fine (but with a slight
delay - thought it was going to crash because the app went grey for a moment)
and then it closed fine. Interesting.
- Just a note: still no auto-import function. Is this normal? I'll read up on
it.

Thanks everyone!

It's possible to get the rt2500 working with NetworkManager via
ndiswrapper. You just need to find a copy of rt2500.sys and rt2500.inf
and use ndiswrapper to install them. A gigantic hack, but good if you're
desperate to get NetworkManager working. Of course NetworkManager and
ndiswrapper have their own set of issues (bug # 85468).

[Bug 90635] Re: keyboard repeat ceases to function

2007-04-25 Thread Tim Angus
I'm also seeing this on a Dell Optiplex 745 with a USB keyboard (Linux

GNU/Linux) and a self older self constructed AMD based PC with a PS2
keyboard (using the same stock Feisty kernel).

I've only been aware of the problem in gnome-terminal, but perhaps it
happens elsewhere too. Interestingly, if I toggle caps lock, keyboard
repeat functionality returns. Furthermore, often hitting caps lock also
turns off *num lock*. All a bit weird.

[Bug 119404] cgi-mapserver won't serve rastercg images

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cgi-mapserver

When I use cgi-mapserver, I am able to make pretty maps and show them in

complains about a GDAL library it can't find. When I do it from

[Bug 119404] Re: cgi-mapserver won't serve rastercg images

2007-06-11 Thread Angus Carr
Would be fixed if bug #119594 was fixed... It is asking for mapserver to
be sync'd with debian version. That would change the dependency from
gdal 1.3 to 1.4. That would probably fix this one, too.

[Bug 46470] Re: System freeze with white screen

2008-04-30 Thread Angus Kerr
This is still an issue with Gutsy and Hardy.

The workaround still applies. I am concerned that a lot of new users
will be put off because of this and other driver related
issues..Like with Gutsy the boot CD - X works in 640x480 mode. In
Hardy, X is broken and you need to boot up in failsafe mode and then
enable the protected driver.

I believe that it will affect a lot of users with built-in ATI Graphics
cards. I have seen a lot of activity regarding the issue.

I will try this with Gentoo and other distros and report back.

[Bug 211572] Re: [Hardy] [regression] ehci_hcd.ko breaks suspend-to-ram

2008-11-14 Thread Angus Turnbull
This problem also affects my Toshiba Tecra M3. Suspend/resume worked
under Gutsy but fails with all release Hardy kernels and the current
Intrepid kernel. They would resume to a blank screen without accepting
any input necessitating a hard reboot.

Adding this to /etc/pm/config.d/config:

SUSPEND_MODULES="ehci_hcd"

fixes the problem. LSPCI output is attached. /proc/version_signature is
"Ubuntu 2.6.27-7.16-generic"

I found this out using the pm_trace function, the relevant portion of
dmesg output is:

[1.851860] Magic number: 0:250:259
[1.851865] hash matches
/build/buildd/linux-2.6.27/drivers/base/power/main.c:350
[1.851884] tty ttyx1: hash matches

[1.852017] rtc_cmos 00:08: setting system clock to 2068-04-03 03:15:29 UTC
(3100648529)

I presume this bug is the correct place to file the issue, if anyone
wants to report under Intrepid please do so :).

Hi There

I have posted a workaround here:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=116504

You should be able to get going after following this post. I agree that
the kernel upgrade will not fix the problem - but it's worth a try!

>>> Indigo42 <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 02/09/08 08:42 >>>

Sorry...need to clarify.

I will try the kernel upgrade, I can't afford to run an Alpha on this

box.

Where would I find the Kernel package?

Thanks,

I concur. This bug seems to be addressed by the hardy kernels (I'm
currently using linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic/2.6.24-19.36 as a reference

[Bug 135471] Re: Addressbook crash when searching contacts by "any field contains"

2007-12-13 Thread Angus Turnbull
Hi, can one of the Evolution maintainers please comment as to whether
there are any plans to fix this crasher in Gutsy? It's solved upstream
and (apparently) in Hardy, and the Evolution addressbook is essentially
broken in Gutsy without this fixed.

Thanks!

[Bug 119404] cgi-mapserver won't serve rastercg images

2007-06-08 Thread Angus Carr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cgi-mapserver

When I use cgi-mapserver, I am able to make pretty maps and show them in
OpenLayers. When I add in a raster image as a layer, it fails. It
complains about a GDAL library it can't find. When I do it from
PHP/Mapscript, I can see the layer, but it is hard to manage in
OpenLayers.

These are all installed packages straight from whichever repository it
was... All UBUNTU mirrors.

Any help would be appreciated.
