[Bug 1926205] Re: graphic interface faulty

2021-05-04 Thread arturpio
1. No, this is not the duplicate of of bug 1890891 because 1890891 is
only about ""When I boot my system I have to wait at least 20 - 30
seconds for the application icons to load on dock."

Or now, in this one, I see the same slow load of dock, at the beginning,
but then, the user LOOSES CONTROL of windows and work-spaces, + mouse
clicks become ineffective.

When you click on the "close windows" red cross, for example, it is not
closing the window.

User can not change work-spaces, neither, go from workspace 1 to
workspace 2, which becomes "continuous" on the screen.

So this bug is much more worst then 1890891.

2. No, I do not use anymore 21.04. I reverted to 20.04.2 LTS which run just
fine.

[Bug 1926205] Re: graphic interface faulty

2021-05-03 Thread arturpio
Thank you Daniel,

1. Yes, the same as the bug 1874578, but even worst because after a some
time, there is a loss of windowing and work-spaces, and mouse clicks.
Yes, "When I boot my system I have to wait at least 20 - 30 seconds for
the application icons to load on dock." With SSD disk!

2. I had no Extensions. This happened on a fresh basic "normal" install,
Work-spaces reduced to 0.

3. I did not check with "Top" command, but I check with System Monitor,
process tab, and there was no any process persistently and excessively
eating CPU resources.

In fact, now I erased the 21.04 now and reverted to 20.04.2 LTS which
run smoothly and absolutely with no any smallest problem. Really -
nothing, but on the same computer. The dock loads instantaneously, there
is no loss of windows and and workspace control. Now, my extensions and
apps are all installed too, and are all running fine.

In the present form, 20.04 is useless for me. I can not use it. This is
the first time in my life (With Ubuntu :) it happens - being unable to
use the short-term release.

Maybe this is because the hardware platform (AMD). Something is really
faulty.

[Bug 1926205] Re: graphic interface faulty

2021-04-27 Thread arturpio
Confirmation: with Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS everything works just fine,
smooth, fast, sound and brilliant, as usual.

Boot is fast and left side dock loads instantly.
Touch screen + mouse - no problem.
Dynamic work-spaces - no any problem.

Even "contacts" Gnome application connect to Google account, which is
not done under 21.04

so, the problems are really somewhere in the 21.04 release; HP ENVY x360
hardware platform (AMD® Ryzen 5 4500u with Radeon graphics, AMD® Renoir)
is ok and compatible.

if I can do something to help debug this problem, please message me.

[Bug 1926205] Re: graphic interface faulty

2021-04-27 Thread arturpio
even running with only 1 workspace enabled, the things degrade slowly.

After some time of use, the program windows do not react to the mouse clicks
(close, reduce..).
Then, no any mouse click give any effect.
One solution is to reboot using shell or, even worst - the off button.

I reverse to 20.04.2.0 LTS to check if the problems are coming from the
hardware, or OS version.

[Bug 1926205] [NEW] graphic interface faulty

2021-04-26 Thread arturpio
Public bug reported:

hi,

first, after boot and log-in, the interface elements are slow to
display. the left-screen dock is empty and shows only after some time.
then, I must wait to have access to program (applications) menu
("Activities").

the graphic interface itself become buggy and faulty when using multi-
workspace (dynamic work-spaces displays).

when I launch a program on second workspace screen:
the mouse click stop to have any result (mouse and touchpad)
then, I can not change workspace.
then, programs freezes
I need to reboot the computer to regain any control.

I try 20.04.2.0 LTS on this computer, witch works fine. no any smallest
problem.

[Bug 1477728] Re: Vivid VPN does not connect, "No valid VPN secrets"

2015-09-03 Thread arturpio
I don't know if it's coming from network-manager, or from something
else, I'm not the Linux specialist. All I know, is that it is working
some times, and at some another moment, it does not start a connexion at
all.

So, in order to know what's happen, I disabled "memorise password" to
get a prompt at a start of the VPN. During former 4 weeks, everything
worked ok : when I was clicking on the "connect VPN" option, the
password window appeared and I was able to connect.

Right now, since 1 week, again, it does not work and I can not connect:
when I click on "connect VPM" in the network menu, nothing happen.

It's ultimately annoying...

[Bug 1300097] Re: NetworkManager VPN openconnect fails to connect on 14.04 after update

2015-07-23 Thread arturpio
I use VPN in every Ubuntu version, usually pptp type.

Starting with Vivid new problem raised: the connection, which is
properly configured and working first time after the fresh OS
installation, does not initiate when the computer is rebooted.

Scenario:

- installing Vivid, from scratch
- configuring WiFi access
- connecting to the WiFi
- verifying: everything works fine, including Internet access and browsing
- using right-screen network icon, creating the VPN pptp tunnel
- connecting to the VPN, animated wifi icon runs and connects
- checking : everything works fine

reboot

- reconnecting to the WiFi with the menu icon: ok
- checking : Internet works, everything OK
- clicking on VPN name connection in the network menu in the right, upper side
menu icon: nothing happens. There is no usual connecting animated icon, the
VPN does not starts
- rebooting, restarting network manager, recreating the new VPN under the new
name does not solve the problem.

Trying with the nmcli from Terminal au a normal user:

$ nmcli con up vpnname (or sudo nmcli con up vpnname)

nothing happens. After the 90 seconds, there is a time-out message .

Connecting as a root:

root@ nmcli con up vpnname

instantaneous message : No valid VPN secrets

Restarting the network-manager does not solve the problem.

In /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ConnectionName there is a
small binary file under the VPN connexion name, it is impossible to edit
it.

2012-08-12 Thread arturpio
sorry, not ended...

I did some more testing with this newly installed 12.04 test IBM T61p
notebook.

after the installation, it printed without problems.

When I activated the print server (activated shared printers, publish
printers on this computer etc. in the menu) it stopped to print.

there is no way to print now, even with all server options desactivated.

so, there IS a problem with this printing server... is it within the
CUPS?

[Bug 1034366] Re: Version 12.04 (precise) network printing problem

2012-08-12 Thread arturpio
Found

on the workstation where it did'nt print, the eth0 interface was
incorrectly configurated. The configuration is manual, not via DHCP. The
mask was 255.255.255.255 instead of required 255.255.255.0

Everything worked well (Internet access, ping, etc. etc) except ethernet
printing to this HP laserjet 2100 printer...

well... sorry for disturbance, everything is ok by now.

thanks again for patience and suggestions

this topic is finally totally closed!

[Bug 1034366] [NEW] Version 12.04 (precise) network printing problem

2012-08-08 Thread arturpio
Public bug reported:

Unable to print from any application of any 12.04 (precise) fresh-
installed Ubuntu desktop trough Ethernet connection to the HP Laserjet
2100 printer connected to the LAN swich.

The printer works well if printing is done from older Ubuntu desktops.
The printing resumes with 12.04 if connection is established from 12.04
workstation trough WiFi AP link to the same LAN network.

The Ethernet connection works well, except for printing.

Please find here some testing printscreens as attached files.

[Bug 637612] Re: grub problem with Compaq Smart 2/P Array Controller

2010-10-06 Thread arturpio

This problem happen even with recognition of the RAID disk created with parted
utility... il fact, there is a solution:

- launch Windows XP installation
- erase the RAID Array (logical unit) with Windows installation option,
suppress any partition
- create new partition table, format it as the NTFS unit
- install Windows XP
- relaunch the system and install Debian or Ubuntu.

this way, it works.

so, the problem is somwhere in the partition table of the Array, not
only with grub...

[Bug 563893] Re: Thunderbird will not launch due to a recursive symlink

2010-06-02 Thread arturpio
In my Lucid 10.4, fresh installed from distribution CD, now
Thunderbird ver. 3.0.4, installed via Ubuntu apps library, is running
well.

I was even able to restore my previous Thunderbird records (emails etc.)
just removing the initial content of .thunderbird directory and putting
there my old Thunderbird profiles.ini file and data folder.

[Bug 564683] [NEW] Thunderbird 3.0.4 crashed after update x86_32

2010-04-16 Thread arturpio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

- Lucid 10.04 Beta 2
- Intel x86 _32
- Thunderbird 3.0.4

I have my entire, 2 years email content stored in Thunderbird files,
which are 3.5 Gb large.

The entire system worked well with the first version of Thunderbird
which was supplied with Lucid 10.04 Beta 2 first release.

After the update of 15 april 2010, the Thunderbirs starts, try to launch and
stops. The program window does not open.
.thunderbird folder which stores the thunderbird data folder renames to
thunderbird.upstream and 2 broken links icons are created in my home
folder.

When I erase this thunderbird data folder in home (.thunderbird), the
program launches well and ask me to create the new, empty accounts, as
usual.

If I replace the content of this new empty data folder with my old data
files, the data folder renames again to thunderbird.upstream and 2
broken links icons are created again in home folder.

[Bug 156901] Re: Gutsy re-install fails on VIA Pentium III chipsets

2008-08-30 Thread arturpio
Found the solution.

The reason was the insufficient amount of RAM (256Mb in my case) which,
on some platform (various graphc cards etc.) was insufficient to
format to run.

Inreasing the RAM amount to 512Mb solved the problem.

[Bug 156901] Gutsy re-install fails on VIA Pentium III chipsets

2007-10-24 Thread arturpio
Public bug reported:

LiveCD Gutsy install process fails when re-installing Gutsy on VIA
Pentium III chipset motherboards.

1. tested on 3 computers with Pentium III/1.00GHz, VIA chipsets (type
VT82C686), 256Mb RAM, 20Gb Seagate hard disk
2. those computers was running perfectly well under Feisty Fawn
3. when 7.10 version become available, I installed on them Gutsy Gibbon (final,
distribution release), used them few days then I decided to re-allocate hard
disk space
4. in order to do it, I re-started computer(s) with Gutsy LiveCD and set new
device label (hard disk msdos label) on hard disk to totally erase it
5. after reboot, I launched LiveCD install, choosing manual partitionning
6. I set two new partitions (swap and / ) and let's the install proceed
7. after setting the new partitions and formatting them, install stops with
error message : (something as) failing to set up the file system on device

- Re-launching the LiveCD install do not fix the error.
- Re-partition of the hard disk with GParted works, new partitions formats
well, but install still fails
- Win$XP installs and run well on those machines but re-installing Gutsy still
fails
- complete hard disk wipe with Seagate SeaTools 2.07PG do not cure the problem
as well
- automatic partitionning with installs do not solve the problem neither

Finally, after 2 days, I found the solution: I installed the Debian (ver
4.0) with my new partition scheme ( one / partition and swap) then I
re-launched Gutsy's install from LiveCD, manually assigning only the
/ partition and checking the format case, without deleting or
changing anything other in the partition scheme. This way Gutsy re-
installs and further works perfectly well.

But the problem remains: it is impossible to re-install Gutsy (not
first install -- Gutsy re-install of itself) on the same machine
when VIA Pentium III chipset is in use.

I tested the Gutsy re-install on another PC with BX chipset. It works
without any trouble...

So, the problem is somewhere in the install script, apparently failing
after formating of the re-installed partition.
