[Bug 1902035] [NEW] Screen brightness cannot be changed in Lenovo T14s with AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U with Radeon Graphics

2020-10-29 Thread Ath
Public bug reported:

The screen brightness cannot be changed. It is always at maximum.
Strangely enough, it happened once or twice (seemingly randomly) that I was
able to change it, but after a reboot the brightness was again stuck in max.

My machine is a Lenovo T14s ThinkPad with AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U with Radeon
Graphics.
I installed the drivers I found in the AMD site
('amdgpu-pro-18.40-697810-ubuntu-18.04' and
'amdgpu-pro-20.40-1147287-ubuntu-18.04'), but the issue remains (although it
fixed the issue of not recognizing external monitor).

I tried Ubuntu 20.04, but I get the same behavior.

[Bug 78257] Re: Intel HDA No sound after Standby

I've compiled the latest available ALSA snapshot (1.0.17rc2) and the bug

Any chance of a backport of ALSA to Hardy when 1.0.17 final will be

[Bug 194887] Re: rtl8187 doesn't load with 2.6.24-8

2008-04-19 Thread ath
Alexbellisbrown: that's a different bug, then. This is about not being
able to load the rtl8187 driver, but if you get a connection at all,
it's certainly loaded.

I haven't tested my Realtek 8187 much lately, but seems to work pretty
reliably once the driver is loaded.

[Bug 194887] Re: rtl8187 doesn't load with 2.6.24-8

2008-04-18 Thread ath
The bug should only appear on a system with a recent Intel wireless card
installed (Intel 3945 or 4965), so users with a Realtek 8187 as their
only card shouldn't be affected.

As a workaround, you can try these commands:

sudo rmmod $(lsmod | cut -f 1 -d ' ' | grep iwl)
sudo modprobe rtl8187

they will unload the Intel wireless driver (and its uncompatible mac80211
stack) and load the driver for your Realtek card, which should work fine.

I can confirm the same behaviour with the iwl4965 driver running a daily livecd
build (2.6.24-8, me too on x86_64), it started in 2.6.24-7 if I remember
correctly.
I've seeing it happen both with WEP and WPA-Enterprise (TKIP) networks.

By the way, the iwl4965 driver started working much better than before
in these releases, it really caused many problems with my WPA Enterprise
setup in Gutsy...

2008-03-01 Thread ath
After a quick look at the source it looks like the iwlwifi driver
handles TKIP (and WEP) decryption in hardware but the softmac stack
tries again to do it in software, even if the necessary flags are set.
What don't I understand is why the softmac stack doesn't drop the packet
as it should...

Is the version of mac80211 in linux-ubuntu-modules (iwlwifi_mac80211)
slightly incompatible with the iwlwifi driver shipped in the same
package? I'll take a look at upgrading both.

[Bug 194887] Re: rtl8187 doesn't load with 2.6.24-8

2008-03-01 Thread ath
The bug is still here with 2.6.24-10-generic, it only manifests itself
if the iwl4965 (or iwl3945, I guess) is already loaded (they are shipped
in the linux-ubuntu-modules package). If they aren't, everything works
as it should.

It looks like some symbol contained in the iwlwifi_mac80211 module
clashes with those defined in the mac80211 module shipped with linux-
image-linux-image-2.6.24-10-generic.

Attaching as requested (note that the dmesg dump is huge because of
#190475)

2008-02-26 Thread ath
Looks like it works now with 2.6.24-10-generic, and it fixed a similar issue I
was experiencing with the rt2500usb driver.
Thanks to you and all the kernel team for your help.

[Bug 129407] Re: r818x.ko missing in linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-8-generic

2007-08-22 Thread ath
The new rtl8187 driver included and enabled by default in the Gutsy
kernel 2.6.22.9 works for me. From what I can understand it is a
replacement for the older r818x driver, right?

[Bug 92742] Re: RT2500-based wireless G network card cannot be set or reset on 2.6.20-11

2007-03-18 Thread ath
I found a workaround by compiling the very latest CVS sources of the rt2x00
driver (http://rt2400.cvs.sourceforge.net/rt2400/source/rt2x00/ the same as
used in the latest Feisty kernel) and I had my RT2500 PCI working correctly on
2.6.20-11 (both generic and lowlatency, on a 32 bit x86 machine) after removing
the original driver.
Probably the developers added a fix recently, it works even with
NetworkManager, at least for WEP.
I'm attaching the output of lspci (sorry I can't provide a dmesg log as the box
is running Edgy at the moment, I'll do it later).
