Just let it go, not going to happen. Use the above mentioned for this 
functionality, and other useful ones such as jumping to the searched 
bookmark/folder's location on the tree: 
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/bookmark-search-plus-2/
It opens in the sidebar the same way as the built in sidebar.

I think it's also inconsistent with Firefox itself.
"browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground;true" should apply for this too
at least.

Not at all. With the quickfind bar you can press enter to open a link,
or press ctrl+enter to open it in a new tab. But you can not do this
with the normal findbar.

Will this finally work with the normal find bar an not just the
quickfind bar?
