[Bug 382953] Re: package linux-image-2.6.30-7-generic 2.6.30-7.8 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 3

2009-06-22 Thread axel
i just experienced the very same scenario but with a jaunty 64b standard
update (linux-image-2.6.28-13-generic 2.6.28-13.44), thought 3waymerge
sounds nice but then... will chose a different option next time and see
if it works.

I've tried your fix. It doesn't work for me. Boot is just longer when
initializing network... But once under Gnome, network is still not
correctly up.

iwconfig returns that my acces point is invalid. After
deactivate/reactivate, network is up.

OK, i made a test:
Cold machine: 14 min until shutdown
than 30 min md5sum /dev/zero : 4 min until shutdown

heat may be of influence to the problem but in no other program! (I use
a lot of high cpu consuming scientific programms over a long time
without any spontaneous shutdowns...)

Now i found with lm-sensors a very fast rise in core-temp under
warzone2100 - so thats probably the problem...

Hello Michael,
I've done that sometimes. I don't know why apt-get want that version
"linux-libc-dev 2.6.20-16.28". On the download server there is only
version "linux-libc-dev 2.6.20-16.28".

Thanks for your fast response!

[Bug 235509] Re: Incorrect RFC 2047 decoding

2008-07-10 Thread Axel
I have the same problem, and I don't think it is low priority, because:

When I'm getting an email with multiple TO Adresses encoded this way, Evolution
does not recognize that.
So I can't reply to all. S it's not only ugly, I can't work with it!

eg:
in Mailheader:
To: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Axel_Zn_<[EMAIL PROTECTED]
=?ISO-8859-1?Q?-sXXXe.de>,_HXon_,_Ma?=
 =?ISO-8859-1?Q?tXe_<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>?=

so there should be 3 adresses in TO. But evolution just sees and displays:
To: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Axel_ZXXXn_ <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

[Bug 220135] [NEW] Hard lock booting/logging out/restarting

2008-04-21 Thread Axel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This is a fresh install of Hardy release candidate on a Dell Optiplex
745 desktop. No problem during the installation, even though at the end
the system didn't reboot. It got stuck at the eject CD and press Enter
screen. However, first boot failed. The system froze with a blank screen
when the gdm login should appear. Booting in rescue mode and choosing
resume normal booting worked. However, the system freezes when the gdm
login should appear after logging out, and when restarting the computer
(I get some network manager stuff, the splash screen reappears, and
nothing happens). Suspend to ram and resume works. I tried booting
normally several times, and sometimes it works, sometimes it freezes.

The only unusual message I found in the logs is this:
gdm[5561]: segfault at 0800 eip b77254c7 esp bfe65568 error 4

The graphic card is Intel 82Q963/Q965 Integrated Graphics Controller
(rev 02).

I had no problems with Gutsy in this computer.

[Bug 220135] Re: Hard lock booting/logging out/restarting

2008-04-29 Thread Axel
This looks a lot like Debian bug #471413, which has been forwarded
upstream (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14867) and
apparently fixed. Have you got any plan to add the 2.3 version of the
drivers to your bisect page? Thank you.

[Bug 215614] Re: Evolution Exchange unreliability in Hardy

2008-05-13 Thread Axel`
There have been issues in my clean hardy install (Kubuntu; lastest
patches all backports etc constantly updated) with Evo on the same
issue. It happened that I am getting messages in the EVO front end
saying lost connection to such and such module. I have to quite it and
restart Evo. Very rarley I ll need to manually kill -9 the backend
processes/restart the machine. I am using the Exchange Plugin heavily,
too.

The funny part is, that all day today this did not happen. Yesterday I
seem to remember an Evo update coming in. Today was an update - just
system files.

So I am not sure whether this fixed it or not. Would be good to see
others responding on this.

Cheers,
Axel

p.s. it will probably happening again after I press send ;-)

[Bug 230278] [NEW] Clock preferences - help button doesn't work

2008-05-14 Thread Axel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Gnome applets 2.22.1-0ubuntu2
Clock 2.22.1.3
Ubuntu 8.04

1) Right click on the clock in the panel
2) Select "Preferences"
The Clock Preferences dialog appears. There are three buttons: "Help", "Time
settings" and "Close". Nothing happens when Help is clicked.

Right clicking on the clock and selecting Help in the menu does open the
Clock Manual, which has a "Preferences" page. I suppose the button
should open that page.

[Bug 220135] Re: Hard lock booting/logging out/restarting [Q965]

2008-05-15 Thread Axel
I tried the 2.3.1 drivers as well, and I agree that they don't fix this bug.
The system worked fine a couple of times, but it froze about 5 times.
I also tried Fedora 9 live cd, which uses intel 2.2.1 drivers, and it works
fine, with desktop effects both on and off. It seems there may be some software
combination specific to Ubuntu that triggers this bug.

[Bug 153702] Re: Dell Inspiron 530 SATA drive not detected in IDE mode

2008-05-08 Thread axel
Perhaps there are systems out there where you can choose between IDE and
SATA. But my BIOS just knows about the two settings IDE and RAID. So,
the big question is: what is going to happen if I set the disk mode to
RAID? Perhaps I wouldn't care if I had just one drive in my computer,
but having two identical drives, I fear RAID might actually work the way
it's supposed to - and trash the data on at least one of the drives.

[Bug 235509] Re: Incorrect RFC 2047 decoding

2008-07-10 Thread Axel
I have the same problem, and I don't think it is low priority, because:

When I'm getting an email with multiple TO Adresses encoded this way, Evolution
does not recognize that.
So I can't reply to all. S it's not only ugly, I can't work with it!

eg:
in Mailheader:
To: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Axel_Zn_<[EMAIL PROTECTED]
=?ISO-8859-1?Q?-sXXXe.de>,_HXon_,_Ma?=
 =?ISO-8859-1?Q?tXe_<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>?=

so there should be 3 adresses in TO. But evolution just sees and displays:
To: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Axel_ZXXXn_ <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

[Bug 220135] [NEW] Hard lock booting/logging out/restarting

2008-04-21 Thread Axel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This is a fresh install of Hardy release candidate on a Dell Optiplex
745 desktop. No problem during the installation, even though at the end
the system didn't reboot. It got stuck at the eject CD and press Enter
screen. However, first boot failed. The system froze with a blank screen
when the gdm login should appear. Booting in rescue mode and choosing
resume normal booting worked. However, the system freezes when the gdm
login should appear after logging out, and when restarting the computer
(I get some network manager stuff, the splash screen reappears, and
nothing happens). Suspend to ram and resume works. I tried booting
normally several times, and sometimes it works, sometimes it freezes.

The only unusual message I found in the logs is this:
gdm[5561]: segfault at 0800 eip b77254c7 esp bfe65568 error 4

The graphic card is Intel 82Q963/Q965 Integrated Graphics Controller
(rev 02).

I had no problems with Gutsy in this computer.

Re: [Bug 124587] Re: Missing package or incorrect package in the Repositories

2007-07-07 Thread axel
Hello Michael,
I've done that sometimes. I don't know why apt-get want that version
"linux-libc-dev 2.6.20-16.28". On the download server there is only
version "linux-libc-dev 2.6.20-16.28".

Thanks for your fast response!

This looks a lot like Debian bug #471413, which has been forwarded
upstream (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14867) and
apparently fixed. Have you got any plan to add the 2.3 version of the

[Bug 215614] Re: Evolution Exchange unreliability in Hardy

2008-05-13 Thread Axel`
There have been issues in my clean hardy install (Kubuntu; lastest
patches all backports etc constantly updated) with Evo on the same
issue. It happened that I am getting messages in the EVO front end
saying lost connection to such and such module. I have to quite it and
restart Evo. Very rarley I ll need to manually kill -9 the backend
processes/restart the machine. I am using the Exchange Plugin heavily,
too.

The funny part is, that all day today this did not happen. Yesterday I
seem to remember an Evo update coming in. Today was an update - just
system files.

So I am not sure whether this fixed it or not. Would be good to see
others responding on this.

Cheers,
Axel

p.s. it will probably happening again after I press send ;-)

[Bug 230278] [NEW] Clock preferences - help button doesn't work

2008-05-14 Thread Axel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Gnome applets 2.22.1-0ubuntu2
Clock 2.22.1.3
Ubuntu 8.04

1) Right click on the clock in the panel
2) Select "Preferences"
The Clock Preferences dialog appears. There are three buttons: "Help", "Time
settings" and "Close". Nothing happens when Help is clicked.

Right clicking on the clock and selecting Help in the menu does open the
Clock Manual, which has a "Preferences" page. I suppose the button
should open that page.

heat may be of influence to the problem but in no other program! (I use

[Bug 235509] Re: Incorrect RFC 2047 decoding

2008-07-10 Thread Axel
I have the same problem, and I don't think it is low priority, because:

When I'm getting an email with multiple TO Adresses encoded this way, Evolution
does not recognize that.
So I can't reply to all. S it's not only ugly, I can't work with it!

eg:
in Mailheader:
To: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Axel_Zn_<[EMAIL PROTECTED]
=?ISO-8859-1?Q?-sXXXe.de>,_HXon_,_Ma?=
 =?ISO-8859-1?Q?tXe_<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>?=

so there should be 3 adresses in TO. But evolution just sees and displays:
To: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Axel_ZXXXn_ <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

The system still locks with ForceEnablePipeA on. By the way, Optiplex 745 are
desktop computers.
The problem with suspend to Ram is probably the same of bug #226279.

[Bug 215614] Re: Evolution Exchange unreliability in Hardy

2008-05-13 Thread Axel`
There have been issues in my clean hardy install (Kubuntu; lastest
patches all backports etc constantly updated) with Evo on the same
issue. It happened that I am getting messages in the EVO front end
saying lost connection to such and such module. I have to quite it and
restart Evo. Very rarley I ll need to manually kill -9 the backend
processes/restart the machine. I am using the Exchange Plugin heavily,
too.

The funny part is, that all day today this did not happen. Yesterday I
seem to remember an Evo update coming in. Today was an update - just
system files.

So I am not sure whether this fixed it or not. Would be good to see
others responding on this.

Cheers,
Axel

p.s. it will probably happening again after I press send ;-)

[Bug 230278] [NEW] Clock preferences - help button doesn't work

2008-05-14 Thread Axel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

Gnome applets 2.22.1-0ubuntu2
Clock 2.22.1.3
Ubuntu 8.04

1) Right click on the clock in the panel
2) Select "Preferences"
The Clock Preferences dialog appears. There are three buttons: "Help", "Time
settings" and "Close". Nothing happens when Help is clicked.

Right clicking on the clock and selecting Help in the menu does open the
Clock Manual, which has a "Preferences" page. I suppose the button
should open that page.

** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 220135] Re: Hard lock booting/logging out/restarting [Q965]

2008-05-15 Thread Axel
I tried the 2.3.1 drivers as well, and I agree that they don't fix this bug.
The system worked fine a couple of times, but it froze about 5 times.
I also tried Fedora 9 live cd, which uses intel 2.2.1 drivers, and it works
fine, with desktop effects both on and off. It seems there may be some software
combination specific to Ubuntu that triggers this bug.

This looks a lot like Debian bug #471413, which has been forwarded
upstream (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14867) and
apparently fixed. Have you got any plan to add the 2.3 version of the
drivers to your bisect page? Thank you.

[Bug 220135] Re: Hard lock booting/logging out/restarting

2008-04-24 Thread Axel
The final release of Ubuntu Hardy still has problems. Unlike the release
candidate, the live CD froze when starting ubiquity. However I could install in
safe graphics mode.
Ubuntu works if the vesa or i810 drivers are selected in xorg.conf, but freezes
with intel.

[Bug 153702] Re: Dell Inspiron 530 SATA drive not detected in IDE mode

2008-04-25 Thread axel
"This bug is not recorded as needing to be fixed in linux-source-2.6.24
(Ubuntu)" - that means, I won't be able to run ubuntu on my computer, right?
Setting the drive to raid is not an option, since I have windows installed, two
identical drives, and no confidence the data would survive switching to raid
mode...
So, will I really have to wait for 8.10?

[Bug 153702] Re: Dell Inspiron 530 SATA drive not detected in IDE mode

2008-05-08 Thread axel
Perhaps there are systems out there where you can choose between IDE and
SATA. But my BIOS just knows about the two settings IDE and RAID. So,
the big question is: what is going to happen if I set the disk mode to
RAID? Perhaps I wouldn't care if I had just one drive in my computer,
but having two identical drives, I fear RAID might actually work the way
it's supposed to - and trash the data on at least one of the drives.
