[Bug 876711] Re: Screen brightness resets to minimized when screen turns off

2011-11-06 Thread biebel
It's not merely gnome related. I've ran away from gnome3 and both
kubuntu and xubuntu 11.10 suffer from this bug on my dell D630. Didn't
have this problem with either DE on 11.04.

[Bug 323302] Re: Wrong UDMA mode due to error in 40/80 wire cable detection

2010-06-13 Thread biebel
This has been a problem for me for some time.

If someone does open a new report for this bug, please add this info:

Workaround that works for me since the introduction of the bug: add
libata.force=80c as kernel parameter.

As I don't have any 40-wire cables nor udma < 66 devices this
workaround has never caused a problem for me.

dmesg output without the parameter;

[Bug 530193] Re: permission denied

2010-05-07 Thread biebel
It was working fine after I upgraded my server from 9.10 to 10.04 at
first, but after doing the updates a few days back I ran into this
problem.

I still had my old transmission-daemon init.d script so I compared it to the
one that is currently being used. I noticed that my old custom one had
username=myusername and the new one has name=transmission-daemon and
user=debian-transmission.
I tried setting name=myusername, but that broke it. The page wouldn't load.
When I put the old script instead of the new one I still had the permission
problem.

As a temporary workaround I changed the owner of the download folder to
debian-transmission using sudo chmod -R debian-transmission:debian-
transmission /home/shared/downloadfolder/

[Bug 530193] Re: permission denied

2010-05-07 Thread biebel
Ran into the same problem here.
I have some additional info: the permission problem only occurs when
transmission-daemon gets started with the init.d script ie. on boot or
(re)starting with /etc/init.d/transmission-daemon (re)start. When I start it
from the cli with transmission-daemon -f everything works as it should.

[Bug 567075] Re: Origami unable to connect to servers

2010-05-05 Thread biebel
I'm having the exact same problem here.
-p smp and the 32 bit work just fine, but -p amd64 results in:

-Attempt #138 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
 Waiting before retry.
+ Attempting to get work packet
- Connecting to assignment server
+ No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
+ Couldn't get work instructions.

Will test if the same behaviour occurs when using the 9.10 live cd next
weekend.

[Bug 471512] [NEW] Slow cifs ubuntu 9.10

2009-11-02 Thread biebel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smbfs

Ubuntu 9.10
mount.cifs version: 1.12-3.4.0

Transfer speed over samba using CIFS/SMBFS has dropped severely since updating
to 9.10 (clean install).
I should be getting transfer speeds of +- 8 MiB/s, but I'm only getting +- 4
over CIFS.
As I still get the expected 8 MiB/s when copying via gnome (Places => Network)
and in windows, I'm quite sure it is a CIFS problem.
For some odd reason pushing files from the server to a shared folder on my main
computer used to go @ the full 10 MiB/s under 9.04. Now with 9.10 installed on
the server it won't go over 2 MiB/s.

I have tried many rsize= arguments, but every value I've tried only made
things worse.

Steps to reproduce:
Mount share using mount -t cifs
Copy file

[Bug 386397] Re: ffmpeg gets "Illegal instruction" on Pentium II

2009-08-17 Thread biebel
I am experiencing the same problem.

It seems to be related to the architecture and mjpeg handling.

I could transform from h264 avi to flv without a problem, but when trying to

[Bug 367022] [NEW] gnome-display-manager doesn't allow manual refresh rate entry

2009-04-25 Thread biebel
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 8.10 & 9.04

9.04: gnome-control-center: Installed: 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu3

This is more of a feature request than a bug report.

gnome-display-properties should allow to enter the refresh rate
manually.

My secondary monitor is a beamer that does not get detected (fully)

Relevant xrandr output:
DVI-1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
   1360x768 59.8
   1152x864 60.0
   1024x768 60.0
   800x60060.3
   640x48059.9

I know the native resolution of the beamer is 1024*768 at a refresh rate
of 85hz, but when I activate the monitor in gnome-display-properties I
can only choose the resolutions and refresh rates shown by xrandr.

The only way around manually defining resolutions and refresh rates in
xorg.conf I have found is by adding the right mode using xrandr commands in a
script.
#!/bin/sh
xrandr --newmode "1024x...@85" 94.5 1024 1072 1168 1376 768 769 772 808 +hsync
+vsync
xrandr --addmode DVI-1 1024x...@85
xrandr --output DVI-1 --right-of DVI-0 --mode 1024x...@85

This works perfectly, but I think, if it's easy to implement, the option
should be there in gnome-display-properties.

[Bug 281743] Re: [intrepid] vlc crashes right after start with every video

2009-01-05 Thread biebel
I have the same problem with vlc.
Ubuntu 8.10 both on 32 and 64 bit version.
Opensource radeon driver with either default and exa accelerator.
Compiz and metacity.
X11 and Xv.
Other videoplayers work fine (totem, xine, mplayer)

I have found a workaround that works for me on my 64bit exa accelerated
pc (will try the same on the other machine when I have the time):
Disable "integrate video in interface" and "systray icon" in the

[Bug 130213] Re: rhtmbox doesn't play the next song after first song finished

2008-10-13 Thread biebel
I'm still experiencing this problem on an up to date hardy.

It doesn't seem to occur when running with the --debug flag so I can't provide
useful logs.
It does however display [0x173e710] [volume_changed_cb]
rb-player-gst-xfade.c:916: unexpectedly got a volume change for stream
file:///path/filename 1.00 (not fading) on every transition.

What I have noticed however is that when it happens the time indicator
of the main rhythmbox window indicates for example 5:10 of 5:10 whereas
it shows 2:34 of 5:10 in the notifications area when hovering over the
icon.

I can't provide a way to reproduce it. It occurs from time to time without any
obvious cause. Sometimes it plays days on end without occurring and when it
does occur and replay the song it always goes to the next one when it finishes.
So far it has only occurred without the debug flag in shuffle mode with
crossfading enabled.

If you need any more info please let me know.
