[Bug 1014782] Re: Xorg crash with floating evdev mouse pointer

2014-01-09 Thread bijwaard
I just retested this in Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS and the bug is still there. I
have some services running 24/7, so'm not ready to reboot the
development snapshot at this time. Is there an easy way to run the
development X server on top of Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS?

[Bug 1014782] [NEW] Xorg crash with floating evdev mouse pointer

2012-06-18 Thread bijwaard
Public bug reported:

Xorg crashes on my system when I configure an InputDevice with a floating
mouse, since I'm trying to create a multiseat system (using 2 videocards, 2
mice, 2 keyboards in one PC, see http://linuxgazette.net/124/smith.html ). A
floating keyboard in an InputDevice section works as a charm and isolates the
keyboard to the specified 'seat'. When the Floating option is set to false
both mouses move the cursor in both seats.
When Floating option is set to true i get a segfault in positionSprite of
../../dix/getevents.c:951, I'll attach the full backtrace.

[Bug 920959] Re: FTDI USB serial FT232RL regression, requires toggling flow control

2012-03-09 Thread bijwaard
I just tested after updating the kernel to 3.0.0-16.29 and the problem went
away on my laptop. Thanks for your support.
Others should probably retest their configuration as well.

2012-03-08 Thread bijwaard
The description of fix initial baud rate is similar but for baudrate. I
checked in http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/ChangeLog-3.2.3
that is was also not yet fixed in the 3.2.1 kernel I tested. I'll try to
find some time for a retest tomorrow.

[Bug 920959] Re: FTDI USB serial FT232RL regression, requires toggling flow control

2012-01-25 Thread bijwaard
As suggested, I tested with the latest mainstream kernel (3.2.1, linux-
image-3.2.1-030201-generic_3.2.1-030201.201201121644_amd64.deb) and the
problem still persists, although I had to first kill powerd that grabbed
my FTDI device (existing bug, Debian Bug report logs - #586751).

[Bug 920959] [NEW] FTDI USB serial FT232RL regression, requires toggling flow control

2012-01-24 Thread bijwaard
Public bug reported:

After restarting yesterday (after +/-23 days), the Linux kernel updates
got effective and rendered my USB serial ports unusable until I toggled
the flow control off and then on again. Before the update I could use my
serial ports without problems at 460800 baud, with flow control. I
normally use my cross-platform application to access the serial port,
but the problem is also visible with socat.

I do get bytes over the serial port but I cannot believe that it is
correct:

$ socat /dev/ttyUSB0,nonblock,crtscts=1,cs8,cstopb=1,echo=0,b460800
-|hexdump -C

  c0 00 c0 c0 00 e0 00 e0  e0 c0 00 00 00 00 c0 e0  ||
0010  e0 00 00 00 00 c0 00 e0  00 00 00 00 00 c0 00 e0  ||
0020  c0 00 c0 00 c0 00 00 00  00 00 00 00 00 c0 00 e0  ||

0040  c0 e0 00 c0 e0 00 00 c0  c0 c0 c0 00 e0 00 00 c0  ||

After toggling the flow_control off, I get (serial messages start with
01 2f):

$ socat /dev/ttyUSB0,nonblock,crtscts=0,cs8,cstopb=1,echo=0,b460800 -|hexdump -C
  00 00 00 00 00 e0 00 c0  c0 e0 c0 00 00 e0 00 e0  ||

After toggling flow_control back on, I get:

$ socat /dev/ttyUSB0,nonblock,crtscts=1,cs8,cstopb=1,echo=0,b460800 -|hexdump -C
  01 2f 03 6f 22 00 ff ff  01 08 28 21 00 00 54 01  |./.o.(!..T.|

0060  a4 ff be 00 19 00 01 ff  fc ff fe fe a5 ff be 00  ||

After this procedure, I can succesfully use the device and stop/start
the serial communication, until I unplug it. After unplugging or
plugging in another device with the same FTDI chip, I have to toggle
flow_control again to get it to work.

I also used the fired up VirtualBox with Windows-XP and had no trouble
connecting getting the right data from the serial port (e.g. in putty,
terraterm, my own cross-platform application, no flow_control toggling
required), also using switching between FTDI devices didnt' give any
problems.

[Bug 893917] [NEW] wxFilePickerCtrl crashes after multiple opening attempts

2011-11-23 Thread bijwaard
Public bug reported:

Dear sir, madame,

When opening a file via a wxFilePickerCtrl multiple times, the
application crashes. Both my developed application, as wxformbuilder
crash with the following error (debug trace attached):

(wxformbuilder:29400): Gtk-CRITICAL **:
_gtk_file_chooser_entry_set_file_part: assertion
`GTK_IS_FILE_CHOOSER_ENTRY (chooser_entry)' failed

(wxformbuilder:29400): Gtk-CRITICAL **: _gtk_file_chooser_entry_set_file_part:
assertion `GTK_IS_FILE_CHOOSER_ENTRY (chooser_entry)' failed
**
Gtk:ERROR:/build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.24.6/gtk/gtkfilechooserdefault.c:8751:gtk_file_chooser_default_initial_focus:
 assertion failed: (widget != NULL)
Aborted (core dumped)

This bug is similar to recent reports about the geany tool on x86_64,
that crashes when multiple file-select attempts are done. The resolution
(https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/25893) with geany was relinking with
the updated libgtk2 libraries.

Reproducing the bug with wxformbuilder:
- open wxFormbuilder
- create a form with a wxFilePickerCtrl
- open the file picker and choose file
- repeat previous step about 5 times
- crash

Kind regards,
Dennis

[Bug 741284] Re: [i965gme] severe 2D performance degradation after upgrade to Maverick

2011-04-29 Thread bijwaard
Just installed Natty Narwall, here are the updated performance numbers
- with Xephyr: my GUI with 10xmathplot 28%, Xephyr 24%, Xorg 7%, CPU
- native X: my GUI with 10xmathplot 10%, Xorg 97% CPU

I'll run apport-collect for this bug-number now the laptop is upgraded
to natty.

** Tags added: natty ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  I recently upgraded to Maverick and since then the graphics performance of
certain 2D programs severely degraded. Especially programs that use wxMathplot
with real-time plot updates are affected and show very high CPU on the xorg
process and much lower responsiveness of the application.
  When I run the same program within Xephyr, the CPU load is much less, also
when I run it under ms-windows in VirtualBox. I have tried the stable ppa
update for xorg-intel, but this didn't make much difference.

  I have done performance analysis with oprofile (on my own applications
  that uses 10 wxMathplot plots) and found that the the kernel (55%) and
  libdrm_intel (15%) are eating most of the CPU time.

  I created a slightly modified version of sample3 of wxMathplot that
  shows the CPU impact of 2D operations. Directly under X, CPU usage is as
  follows: 53% for Xorg and 14% for mpSample3. Under Xephyr, CPU usage is
  10% for xorg, 15% for mpSample3 and 11% for Xephyr. I'll attach the
  source of this modified sample, and if required more of the oprofile
  log.

[Bug 741284] Re: [i965gme] severe 2D performance degradation after upgrade to Maverick

2011-04-28 Thread bijwaard
This issue is still present in the Maverick release, I'm fully updated
with all patches. Do you expect updating to Ubuntu 11.04 will make a
difference in graphic performance, since I already tried the latest
stable ppa on Maverick?

Kind regards,
Dennis Bijwaard

[Bug 741284] Re: [i965gme] severe 2D performance degradation after upgrade to Maverick

2011-04-28 Thread bijwaard
Just tried the same comparison between Xephyr and native X on another laptop
with ubuntu maverick and slightly different intel card. I see the similar
difference in speed, although this laptop stays more responsive:
- with Xephyr: my GUI with 10xmathplot 23%, Xephyr 22%, Xorg 4%, CPU
- native X: my GUI with 10xmathplot 7%, Xorg 96% CPU

I'll upgrade this laptop to natty and see if there is any difference.
I'll run apport-collect first for this bug-number.

[Bug 741284] [NEW] severe 2D performance degradation after upgrade to Maverick

2011-03-23 Thread bijwaard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I recently upgraded to Maverick and since then the graphics performance of
certain 2D programs severely degraded. Especially programs that use wxMathplot
with real-time plot updates are affected and show very high CPU on the xorg
process and much lower responsiveness of the application.
When I run the same program within Xephyr, the CPU load is much less, also when
I run it under ms-windows in VirtualBox. I have tried the stable ppa update for
xorg-intel, but this didn't make much difference.

I'll attach the
source of this modified sample, and if required more of the oprofile
log.

[Bug 450672] [NEW] libqdbm++-dev doesn't find own includes

2009-10-13 Thread bijwaard
Public bug reported:

When I include the qdbm headers like this (since they are under
/usr/include/qdbm):

#include qdbm/depot.h
#include qdbm/cabin.h
#include qdbm/vista.h

I get the following problems during compilation with g++:

/usr/include/qdbm/vista.h:31:19: error: depot.h: No such file or directory
/usr/include/qdbm/vista.h:32:19: error: curia.h: No such file or directory
/usr/include/qdbm/vista.h:33:19: error: cabin.h: No such file or directory
/usr/include/qdbm/vista.h:126:19: error: villa.h: No such file or directory
...

This is due to the fact that these headers assume they are not in a
subdirectory, i.e. they include each other as follows (from vista.h):

#include depot.h
#include curia.h
#include cabin.h

Clearly they should include from the install directory in
/usr/include/qdbm (else every developer has to add /usr/include/qdbm to
its include path) by either using the path relative to /usr/include:

#include qdbm/depot.h
#include qdbm/curia.h
#include qdbm/cabin.h

or in the same directory:

#include depot.h
#include curia.h
#include cabin.h

Similar issues can be found in the other /usr/include/qdbm/* include
files.

[Bug 378842] [NEW] v2.2.11-16 hardly supports unicode, if at all

2009-05-20 Thread bijwaard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unixodbc

I can connect and use ANSI databases (sqlite3, psql) with unixodbc in
ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04, but not with unicode driver (e.g. for psql) , it
looks like this requires numerous patches in unixodbc that were done
between 2005 and now. Version 2.2.14 has been out almost half a year and
seems to include good unicode support, could this package be updated?
This would probably also fix the access problems to oracle databases
(see #164473).

[Bug 31907] Re: Xgl crashes and restarts if using Mouse Keys

Unfortunately, the resolution to remove xserver-xgl also kills the ability to
use compiz. I reinstalled xserver-xgl and kept mouse-keys disabled. Now it does
not crash anymore and I can use compiz to its max!
btw. I have a nvidia-legacy card.

[Bug 227698] Re: Xgl crash when pressing numeric keypad

This bug is a duplicate of #31907.
I got a resolution to this in the ubuntu forum:

Resolution in hardy is to remove the package xserver-xgl which seems obsolete,
and optionally switch to normal numeric keypad using
System/Preferences/Keyboard/MouseKeys tab and unselect Allow to control the
pointer using the keyboard.

[Bug 227698] [NEW] Xgl crash when pressing numeric keypad

2008-05-07 Thread bijwaard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xgl

Dear all,

I upgraded to ubuntu hardy (8.04) a week ago (and am up-to-date with
current patches) and now get Xgl (Installed:
1:1.1.99.1~git20080115-0ubuntu1) and Compiz (Installed:
1:0.7.4-0ubuntu6) crashes that take down my X session when I press the 7
(Home) button (or any other) on the numeric keypad of my keyboard. This
happens every time, regardless of the NumLock status. I have visual
effects set to extra, my card is an Nvidia: 01:00.0 VGA compatible
controller: nVidia Corporation NV15 [GeForce2 GTS/Pro] (rev a4), I have
a Dell AT101W keyboard. The Xorg log is attached. I opened a thread on
ubuntu forum (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=785176), but did
not get a reaction there.

There are no indications in the Xorg logfiles, only in the kernel log:
