[Bug 1889444] Re: Internal display keeps being primary even the settings set external display as primary

2020-08-02 Thread Frank Blah
Hm, settings in the https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/1160/dash-to-
panel/ also affects the launcher. I will investigate more.

[Bug 1889444] Re: Internal display keeps being primary even the settings set external display as primary

2020-08-02 Thread Frank Blah
Hi, even with the extension disabled, launcher still appears on the
wrong screen. Also, this is somewhat random, it was working for several
days and after reconnecting / disconnecting monitor, this issue is back.
I am attaching a photo. Thanks!

Workaround for me was to use external USB-C to HDMI adapter and plug the
USB-C to the computer.

[Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-07-28 Thread Frank Blah
For me, it doesn't seem to be fixed.

I have installed mutter 3.36.4 and rebooted. When I set my external 4k
AOC display to 200% and the internal monitor to 100%, it works. However,
if I increase the scaling of the internal monitor to 125% in display
settings, I get the both screens turn black and reverts to the previous
settings shortly after.

Please let me know if you need anything more from me.

[Bug 1878718] Re: HP ZBook 15 G6 display key (Fn+F1) autorepeats too fast to be usable

2020-06-11 Thread Frank Blah
I would add that "severity" of this issue lies in the confusion. I
believed this feature is actually broken, since the fn key works in
Plasma and there wasn't any indication that there is another shortcut.

[Bug 1878718] Re: HP ZBook 15 G6 display key (Fn+F1) autorepeats too fast to be usable

2020-05-22 Thread Frank Blah
a) When I do a short press, then immediately after a release, the next option
is selected (the dialog does not have time to appear even).
b) When I do a long press, then the options start to circle very quickly until
I release the key (see the screencast)

I think the bug is caused by this: When you do Super+K, you hold Super
and press K repeatedly to switch the options. After you release the
Super key, the option is confirmed. When you use the fn key, there is
just one key, so after releasing, it immediately selects the option.

[Bug 1878951] [NEW] External monitor won't reconnect after reattaching HDMI cable

2020-05-15 Thread Frank Blah
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Successfully connect AOC u2879vf external display by attaching HDMI cable
2. Remove the cable, output switches to the built-in display and external
display goes black
3. Reconnect the HDMI cable again

What is expected:
The external screen should display the image (as in step 1)

What happened instead:
The system thinks the display is connected (see the xrandr output), but the
external display is still black (no signal). The clumsy workaround is to use
Super+P to switch to "built-in display only" and then back to "joint". After
that, the external monitor comes back.

xrandr outputs:

[Bug 1878718] Re: Hotkey for switching display output unusable due to switching to next option immediately after release

2020-05-15 Thread Frank Blah
The Super+P shortcut works! In the report, I used a dedicated fn key
(situated on F1). With Super+P, the selection is confirmed when Super is
released. That probably causes the bug when using the single fn key.

[Bug 1878718] [NEW] Hotkey for switching display output unusable due to switching to next option immediately after release

2020-05-14 Thread Frank Blah
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Press the functional button for switching output to displays (joint, mirror,
bulit-in, external) 2. The dialog is invoked

What is expected:
I should be able to select the desired option and confirm it

What happened instead:
While the functional button for invoking the dialog is pressed, it iterates
extremely fast over the options. I cannot control it. After releasing the key,
the currently selected option is confirmed, which is effectively random.

another issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-oem-

[Bug 953154] Re: bzr crashed with TypeError in __init__(): __init__() got an unexpected keyword argument 'ca_certs'

Since there's no progress on this bug I am going to post a patch which
solves this problem for me. I only tested it on lucid (10.04) though but
I believe it will also work on newer versions.

[Bug 244250] Re: Spurious reboot notifications caused by libssl upgrades.

2014-10-31 Thread Khaled Blah
@mdeslaur: Again, thank you for your reply! Pardon my ignorance but I've
never quite understood why that is - why is an update of libssl
different from an update of other libs where you can simply restart the
depending applications/daemons? And why is it different on a desktop?
Maybe these questions require lengthy answers so if you could point me
in a direction where I read up on these questions I'd be very grateful.

[Bug 244250] Re: Spurious reboot notifications caused by libssl upgrades.

2014-10-20 Thread Khaled Blah
On Ubuntu 14.04 this bug still persists. Is there any reason why libssl
would require different treatment than other libraries? I.e. why
wouldn't it suffice to restart services depending on libssl or
libcrypto?

[Bug 1158111] [NEW] Screen locking issue (with /etc/crypttab keyscript)

2013-03-20 Thread Blah Blah
Public bug reported:

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Setup keyscript with anything that echos keypresses (like keyscript below)
2. Point to keyscript in /etc/crypttab (SEE /ETC/CRYPTTAB BELOW)
3. Update-initramfs -u and restart (/boot partition mounted from a USB drive)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The first script execution may work smoothly with slight keyboard response
hickups. However, on subsequent executions from a soft reboot or cold restart
(e.g. if you restart via CTRL+ALT+DEL during the script), keyboard response is
no longer granted. The keyscript provided is only to test keyboard response
reliability here for ease. My actual keyscript is different. Off course, I
would like a solid keyboard response.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
OS - UBUNTU 12.04
{ Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release:12.04 }
CRYPTSETUP - 1.4.1

Please provide any additional information below.
Purpose: keyboard response is needed to input passphrase which unlocks a luks
encrypted volume on a USB keydrive (removable in order to prevent maid attack
to prevent someone from simply substituting a toyed boot partition to capture
passphrase on next reentry)). Unlocking the luks encrypted volume then allows
pass of a keyfile to HDD luks volume holding OS in a lvm logical volume (would
like both passphrase and physically removable keyfile with boot partition
required to unlock system encryption). I have gotten everything to work so far
except for the reliability in the keyboard response. Your help, advice, or any
toeing would be greatly appreciated as I have been struggling with the
reliability resolution for about a week.

/etc/crypttab:

KEYSCRIPT:

#!/bin/sh

***I've contacted cryptsetup already and they said any issue here is not on
their side***

Handling od /etc/crypttab is not part of upstream cryptsetup (it is processed
either by initcripts or systemd generator helper - depends on distro).
(And this init sequence should ensure that keyborard is ready before reading
input. If you see it here I think the same problem must be in base distro
scripts.)

So please report this to distro bugzilla (launchpad for Ubuntu), I cannot do
anything here - the code running keyscript is not part of upstream codebase.

Unfortunately, linux-backports-modules-wwan-2.6.32-25-generic-pae (with kernel

I get a fatal error when trying to modprobe qcserial by hand:

when I try loading the module.

[Bug 182960] Re: Please set memory limits by default

2009-04-12 Thread blah
Not sure if this is being worked on, but I think this is a VERY
important issue to fix!

Every once in a while, something I run has a massive memory leak (GB/s),
which brings down the entire system, requiring a hard reboot.

this seems like FAR from ideal behavior!

while there are valid reasons for a program to use more than the
available physical memory in the system, at least in my experience, if a
program is trying to use more than the 2gigs of memory I have, its due
to a bug, and I'd rather the process be killed, than the entire system!

Even better would be to prompt the user for whether they want to allow the
process to continue...
ie: if a process is using 80-90% of physical memory, force it to go to sleep,
and prompt the user for them to decide wether to allow the process to proceed.

Not sure how the prompt would work, other than a GUI popup, or shell
message, both of which have their flaws though...

thanks!

[Bug 194588] [NEW] force quit when switching to different internet radio stations

2008-03-07 Thread blah
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I was listening to an internet radio station destroyer.net then i decided to
listen to soma fm's groove salad. For some reason, the rhythmbox would hang
and i would eventually have to force quit it. So, I decided to restart my
machine to see if it would do it again, and i still would have to force quit it
because it would hang. It worked fine yesterday and the days prior, I'm not
sure why all of a sudden it was hanging.
I'm running ubuntu 7.10 64-bit.

Thank you,

Robert

[Bug 194588] Re: force quit when switching to different internet radio stations

2008-03-07 Thread blah
This happens all the time, so the only way to listen to another radio
station is to close rhythmbox and open it up again. My guess it's the
recent updates, because this has never happened before.
