[Bug 1212397] Re: griffith crashed with ImportError in /usr/share/griffith/lib/db/validators.py: cannot import name InstrumentationManager

2014-07-02 Thread Bob-El
I can't get the VALIDATORS.PY from this site either. The file doesn't
appear to be there. Instead of a download, after a very long wait, a
German site loads up and I don't read German.

[Bug 109701] Re: [needs-packaging] TrueCrypt

TrueCrypt was discontinued in May 2014:
http://truecrypt.sourceforge.net/
at version 7.2:

So now there're no good reasons left to package it.

[Bug 969039] Re: HUD appears when tapping Alt+Left very quickly

2014-06-23 Thread Bob M Brown
I just booted this morning and noticed it in the first few minutes.
After a reboot it is fine. There must be some combination that is
triggering this. I will report back if I find anything else of
relevance.

[Bug 969039] Re: HUD appears when tapping Alt+Left very quickly

2014-06-22 Thread Bob M Brown
This bug describes a behaviour that I'm currently seeing although not
with arrow keys. I am on Ubuntu 14.04 64bit with Unity 7.2.0. The
behaviour I've noticed affects key combinations EXCEPT arrow keys and
isn't an issue when I first boot my machine.

My machine has been running for 3.5 hours and now I've started noticing
that Alt-D especially as it's part of my workflow to put the focus in
the Chromium addressbar triggers the HUD popup. When I first boot this
is not a problem. Other combos like Alt-F pop up the file menu for a
brief moment and then the HUD pops over closing the menu.

As initially reported if I hold Alt for slightly longer and then press
the key I want then this does not happen.

[Bug 952521] Re: Screen blanking and dpms can't be turned off

2014-06-08 Thread Bob Baker Jr.
This problem was plaguing my friend's PC (which was my less newer rig),
but not my new rig. Same distro, same architecture, same hardware
manufacturers, mostly same setup. BUT, he was experiencing the screen
off thing every 30 seconds, like clockwork.

The FiX is here! I simply went to System Settings > Power Management.
Tab over to Activity Settings, and choose to define a special behavior.
Check the box that says "Never shutdown the screen", and leave the other
two unchecked. I waited about 2 minutes after applying it (didn't even
bother to close the settings window), and the screen stayed on.

Perhaps the fact that this bug resides in the KDE power management as
some goofed-up timer that we cannot control is the reason why it was
overridden by this checkbox.

I am only one person though, so please, those of you who are still
having this happen, please try this method in order to confirm my
solution for everyone, which may then be turned into a workable solution
until the KDE developers fix whatever is causing this thing to happen on
some machines and not others.

[Bug 1301328] Re: [Toshiba Satellite Pro C660 PSC1RA-003001] Brightness controls doesn't work

2014-05-08 Thread Bob M Brown
Hello - sorry for the delay. I wanted to reinstall after 14.04 was out.
After installing a fresh 14.04 and using the NVIDIA binary driver (ver
331.38 in this instance) the backlight controls work properly with no
extra configuration required. They did not however work using the
Nouveau display driver however I was compelled to use the binary driver
as graphics performance was poor.

This is the behaviour for me as well - if I use anything other than the

SSH still works, but killing the webapp does not bring the computer back

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Users having the Launcher only on a monitor that is not the left-most
monitor can only open the application once. This can lead to much
frustration and a restart of the system in order to open the
  application again using the Launcher.

  [Test Case]

  * Have a multi-monitor setup.
  * Using System Settings, go to Displays.
  * Under General options, click the drop down for Launcher placement and
select the right-most monitor.
  * Click an icon to open a application. Close that application and click the
icon again.
  * The application should open again with this fix.

  [Regression Potential]

  None identified.

  Original Description:

  In Trusty:

On a dual monitor system with the launcher on the right hand screen,
an application that has been "locked to launcher", (including those
there by default) can only be clicked on once per session to actually
launch the application. After that it's unresponsive to clicks,
  although right-click actions work.

Seems to affect all apps, including "Files".

To repeat, for any application not already on the launcher bar:

Launch the application using the dash.

Right-click on its launcher icon and select "Lock to Launcher"

  Quit the application.

Click on its launcher icon. It should launch again.

  Quit it again.

Click on its launcher icon again. It won't work this time. It looks
like dragging would work, but its operation as a launcher will not.

NB: I haven't installed any hacks eg: click-to-minimise. Seen this on
two systems upgraded from saucy to trusty. (One with AMD graphics, one
with Intel, so I doubt that's relevant either.)

RE: [Bug 1291362] Re: Apps locked to launcher only launch once per session on dual monitor system.

2014-04-28 Thread Bob McGimpsey
Thanks Alex,

That is exactly the setup... Have laptop and monitor for extended
desktop, with monitor as primary and on RIGHT-SIDE. The launcher is on
the primary monitor(right-side), and encounters the problem. Sorry, I
did not think to experiment with putting the Launcher on the laptop...
would have lived with that... I backed out of the 14.04 and went back
to 13.10... was concerned that if such a bug was discovered right out-
of-the-box, what other surprises might be awaiting... decided to allow
others to discover..

Perhaps I may update to 14.04 again and observe your suggested work-
around.

Thanks again...

[Bug 1313446] [NEW] window disappears on toggle shade

2014-04-27 Thread Bob-El
Public bug reported:

I used Unity Tweak Tool to enable Toggle Shade using middle click. When
I click to top of the window, it rolls up and disappears. A "ghost"
outline of the window appears and the only way to get the window back is
by using Alt-tab. Sometimes, when reselecting the window using Alt-tab,
Ubuntu freezes (crashes) and an internal error is generated. It seems to
be related to Compiz but I'm not sure. An error report was generated and
sent.

Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (64-bit)
Release:14.04
unity-tweak-tool 0.0.6ubuntu1

I expected the window would "roll up" and I'd be left with the window's
top bar like with previous versions of Ubuntu.

[Bug 994921] Re: 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/app.crash' (and even more so, 'apport-cli -c /var/crash/app.crash') should still allow manual bug filing in stable releases

IMHO, errors.u.c should be a little more open for collaboration,
as it may give some useful info (e. g., crash backtraces to catch some rare
bugs)
for upstream projects developers,
but at the same time it should somehow protect itself from sensitive data leak.

More to say, AFAIK,
a vast majority of packages stored in Ubuntu repos are NOT really maintained by
dedicated persons,
but are actually just auto-synced from Debian repositories
(sometimes with minimal changes to make them buildable on Ubuntu),
so, unfortunately, there's NO much help from reporting problems with such
packages here on Launchpad.

So it looks like the advanced Ubuntu users should better look at Debian
& actual upstream projects for non-essential Ubuntu packages bug
reporting.

[Bug 1304158] [NEW] [LENOVO 20216] suspend/resume failure

2014-04-07 Thread Bob Crowe
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to 14.04 the system does not seem to properly
suspend/resume when closing the lid on my Lenovo Y410p laptop. It
sounded like the fan went off when I closed the lid (I checked
carefully) so I put it away in my pack, an hour later it came out
toasty hot, obviously it had been running. I was on 13.10 previously
and only occasionally had situations where it didn't properly suspend
when closing the lid. This seems to be very repeatable.

Re: [Bug 1289880] Re: [Apple Inc. MacBookPro11, 1] suspend/resume failure [non-free: wl]

2014-03-20 Thread Bob Recny
Hi Joseph,

I had already reverted to 3.13...
... so I tried again. I just did:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

... then got the 3.14 kernel again. I'm now able to suspend and resume
without a kernel oops.

I'm not sure where this leaves the bug, but it appears to be working OK
now.

Let me know if I need to change the status. I'm still new to reporting
bugs ;-)

Cheers,
Bob

[Bug 823935] Re: update-manager needs gir1.2-unity-3.0 to run

2014-03-18 Thread Bob Wanamaker
The error message still appears running update-manager (1:0.156.14.12)
for precise but the program doesn't crash. The error message is
eliminated loading gir1.2-unity-5.0 and gir1.2-dee-1.0. May need a patch
to eliminate the search for a once dependent library.

[Bug 939569] Re: Brightness control on Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop

2014-03-15 Thread Bob M Brown
@penalvch If the C660 brightness controls don't work out of the box with
Ubuntu should this bug be closed/invalid? I always come back to this
issue after a reinstall to find my comment above. Seems it should be
fixed somehow in Unbuntu but I don't know how to triage it.

[Bug 595138] Re: Settings in /etc/hdparm.conf are not applied during boot

2014-02-16 Thread Bob Harvey
I have just updated to server edition 12.04 (because I imagine 14.04
will be along soon) and notice that the problem with not reading
settings from /etc/hdparm.conf is still there. I guess whatever was
done in 13.04 was not backported to the LTS version.

Shame, that's what I thought LTS was for. Looks like us server users
will have to wait to the next LTS, which means for us comment 29 should
read "6 years"!

[Bug 1275966] [NEW] Gnome Flashback (Metacity and Compiz) experience lags in displaying selected wallpaper

2014-02-03 Thread Bob Filipiak
Public bug reported:

Using an alpah build of Trusty Gnome, I experience a time lag when i use
the Flashback option for Gnome.

Gnome ("standard") will almost immediately display the wallpaper.

Gnome Classic will display the selected wallpaper after about a one
second delay.

Gnome Flashback (Metacity) will display the panels (I have three, top,
left side and bottom) after about one secoind, but it may take more than
two minutes for the selected wallpaper to be displayed. During this
time, any attempt to "use" the 'desktop' results is severe delays in
redrawing the screen. i.e. Closing a window will display nested boxes
correlating to the reducing window. Once the wallpaper is displayed,
desktop reaction returns to normal.

Gnome Flashback (Compiz) will just display a gray-black screen, which
refuses to respond to any input except the 3-finger-salute (CTL-ALT-
DEL). Using a liove CD, I was able to extract the Xorg.log so I may be
able to include it.

Reviewing the attached Xorg logs, not the lengthy delays in setting up
the screen type for 'X'. The Compiz log was terminated after 224 seconds
(more than 3-1/2 minutes) with a gray-black screen.

---> I do not know if this is in any way related to another bug filed
today as a result of an apport lof (#1275953) by me.

Yes, AcroRead is here mainly to support
some rare & proprietary Adobe PDF extensions,
e. g. look at bug #944953 (definitely a curious one).

[Bug 1020759]

2013-12-02 Thread Bob-q
I heartily concur with those who resent having their unison links not
working because of a scheme for "improvements" none of us asked for or
want.

I don't even mind all that much of the location changes from /media to
something else as long as unison can still find what the something else
is. At this point you've broken unison, and I don't see any suggestion
here about fixing this problem.

Unfortunately, that didn't work.

However, I don't think this is a bug in Firefox anymore. The same thing
happens with the Opera browser and with Chromium. So I guess it's
probably either a problem in flashplugin-installer or a problem
specifically on their site.

Thanks for the idea though!

[Bug 992832] Re: finishes copies from DVD with 99%

2013-11-24 Thread Bob Bib
Kurt Garloff's dd_rescue is no longer supported here, Precise is the last
Ubuntu release to contain it: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ddrescue
Starting from Quantal, there's only GNU ddrescue in Ubuntu repos:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gddrescue

In the case your problem persists with the current upstream version
(1.40), you should contact the upstream author:
http://www.garloff.de/kurt/linux/ddrescue/

Alternatively, you can give the GNU ddrescue a try.

Agree; on one hand, it's simplified for newbies, and on the other it's too

AFAIK, Apport currently works this way by default:
* in stable Ubuntu releases, it works in a "MS Windows" way, submitting the
crash to some kind of Ubuntu crash DB;
* in development releases, it submits the crash to the Launchpad bug tracker.

[Bug 1241803] Re: During Distribution Upgrade could not install 'nova-common'

2013-11-05 Thread Robert W. (Bob) Seidl
Additional searching found that the database was apparently stored in
/var/lib/nova.

I moved the database.
sudo mv /var/lib/nova /var/lib/nova.old

Then I purged and reinstalled nova-common
sudo apt-get purge nova-common
sudo apt-get install nova-common

This was successful. I then ran my system updates which completed
successfully. (libboost was not upgrading due to the nova-common
error.)

I finally removed the old database.
sudo rm -frd /var/lib/nova.old

Note that this solution could be employed because (to the best of my
knowledge) I have yet to actually employed openstack at this time.

For me this can be closed.

[Bug 1246947] [NEW] fwts-efi-runtime-dkms 0.26.08-0ubuntu1: fwts-efi-runtime-dkms kernel module failed to build

2013-10-31 Thread Bob Bosak
Public bug reported:

This is a build out of ricotz/testing thanks to them and linux my new OS
is trashed! Why Part is denied by Ubuntu/raring/main since it is
some experimental reject. I was under the stupid assumption that these
testing pieces were functional so I built an OS with what I thought was
to contain the Gnome 3.10 desktop. Wrong, wrong wrong. Even though the
shell was 3.10 the rest was 3.8 just something Gnome can not get right!
I had the same issue last time I built, half 3.6 half 3.8. Worked half
of the time but not all the time. I hope others read this and consider a
boycott on ricotz/testing since their files simply do not work! 3 days
ago while building all showed perfectly installed. When I got to the
desktop, no difference from 3.8. Next, nothing worked, too many pieces
were missing. I found which pieces were missing, installed them and
still the desktop was barely functional. Gnome Tweak did not work and
tons of crash messages since parts simply did not match up! This is
terrible for people that call themselves developers not to be able to
keep these files straight so they can properly assemble into a usable
desktop. When you have the 3 ppa's from Gnome is exactly like having the
3 stooges. Actually, I think the 3 stooges would know how to put parts
together better than this! I am very upset as I have fought for 4 days
straight to fix these issues and come up empty handed. I have 4 gigs
worth of disk that is not even good enough to be a coaster since this
faulty part makes it difficult to begin installing the system! This was
to be a build of 13.04 raring with desktops Gnome 3.10, XFCE4, LXDE, KDE
and CInnamon 2.0. Nothing but trash now!

[Bug 1246016] [NEW] After login the login manager is shown again

Public bug reported:

After logging in the screen blanks (text is very shortly visible but not
readable to me) after which the login screen is shown again. X doesn't
seem to crash if I interpreted /var/log/Xorg.0.log correctly.

The solution was to rename .kde and logging in again.

In my case, I followed
gedit /usr/share/doc/dictionaries-common/README.problems

To make it short :
/usr/share/debconf/fix_db.pl
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

FYI, I also removed dictionnaries-common entry in /var/lib/dpkg/status,
followed by a failing apt-get install dictionnaries-common, I think it's
not usefull.

[Bug 1244726] [NEW] watchdog detected hard LOCKUP

2013-10-25 Thread Bob Clark
Public bug reported:

In the most recent event, get_pages_from_freelist seems to have timed

Time to reproduce: 1-2 hours
Repeatability: 100%

[Bug 1244503] [NEW] clicking hyperlink in firefox logs out of gnome

2013-10-24 Thread Bob Hogg
Public bug reported:

Clicking a hyperlink in Firefox sometimes logs me out of GNOME (Classic,
i.e. gnome-panel). There is no warning or prompt asking me whether I
want to log out or not. I briefly see a black screen with white text
similar to the ones you see when shutting down from the command line,
then I am shown the typical Ubuntu login manager. I can then log in
again.

This problem occurs infrequently, and because I am immediately logged
out without warning, I cannot view the problematic code in a debugger.
Nor does the white text appear long enough for me to read what it says.

[Bug 1241803] Re: During Distribution Upgrade could not install 'nova-common'

2013-10-22 Thread Robert W. (Bob) Seidl
Error with nova-common is recurring with installation of other packages
including remove/purge/install of nova-common.

This usually ends with:

2013-10-22 11:40:55.967 21806 TRACE nova File
"/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/default.py", line 324, in

parameters)

2013-10-22 11:40:55.967 21806 TRACE nova
dpkg: error processing nova-common (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

It appears that there is a problem with a table. Is there a way to
reset the table?
