[Bug 475410] Re: Karmic doesn't shutdown with 2.6.31-14-generic kernel.

2009-11-08 Thread borfast
I also have this problem only on 9.10, all previous Ubuntu versions
(since 4.04) worked well but it happens every time I shutdown (or
restart) my laptop.

Additionally, I also get the following messages:

Nov 8 20:07:19 ubuntu kernel: [19808.392380] INFO: task halt:5464 blocked for
more than 120 seconds.
Nov 8 20:07:19 ubuntu kernel: [19808.392418] "echo 0 >
/proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout_secs" disables this message.

I'm not sure if it's the same problem but if so, would it be beneficial
for me to also provide the output of any debugging commands?

[Bug 182743] Re: hardy xorg not detecting for compaq evo n410c

2008-05-07 Thread borfast
Correction: it looks like the install option now locks up the computer,
too. It didn't do this when I first installed Hardy - which is obvious,
since I managed to install it without a problem...

[Bug 182743] Re: hardy xorg not detecting for compaq evo n410c

2008-05-07 Thread borfast
Sorry, forgot to include the URL for the image of the distorted Windows screen:
http://www.borfast.com/public_files/winbuntu.jpg

And by the way, I just tried using the live CD with the option to "Try
Ubuntu without any change to your computer" and it behaved exactly the
same - which is normal, I guess.

But if I select the "Install Ubuntu" option, everything seems to work
just fine. Go figure...

[Bug 182743] Re: hardy xorg not detecting for compaq evo n410c

2008-05-07 Thread borfast
Sorry, looks like monitors.xml is indeed where you mentioned.

I am running Hardy on both my desktop and laptop but curiously, the filedoesn't
exist on my desktop - which is why I said I didn't have it.
Could this be because I upgraded my desktop from Gutsy?

Anyway, I deleted the file, as mentioned in the mailing list post you
referred and X didn't crash anymore - but only because X wasn't loading
at all, probably because it was trying to load the vesa driver, which I
had manually entered in xorg.conf.

Usually, the computer would just lock and I'd be forced to reboot. This
time I could access the terminal, edit xorg.conf and remove the driver
line. I restarted the computer and this time it tried to load X but
crashed, as usual, and not even Alt + SysRec + REISUB can reboot it.

The funny/interesting thing is that this time I got a different
"background picture" - the windows blue shutdown screen with the windows
logo. The image was all distorted, as you can see here, but still
recognizable.

I really don't get it... I am now going to reinstall the whole thing
from scratch and hope that it "solves" the problem...

2008-05-07 Thread borfast
I don't have a ~/.gnome2/monitors.xml

And that doesn't seem to make much sense: X's configuration in a gnome2
folder? Are you sure?

I have already tried displayconfig-gtk and it didn't work either. :(

[Bug 214704] Re: GDM login screen too wide

2008-05-05 Thread borfast
I also have this problem on my desktop computer, which has an Nvidia
6200 LE TurboCache.

I have tried razor1394's suggestion but it didn't solve the problem.

Additionally, running "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" seems to
completely clear all device information from xorg.conf. Pretty much the
same as reported on Bug #182743, from which I am also suffering on my
laptop.

Something seems to be very messed up with Hardy Heron's hardware
detection. :(

I am also having the same problem: graphics card not configured in

I have no problem with a fresh install of Dapper, though.
