[Bug 120375] Re: cannot boot raid1 with only one disk

2008-10-09 Thread brunus
Hello,
I second RpR post word by word: it's sincerely hard to accept that such a
serious bug is, not present until 7.04, is still open 14 months and 2 distros
after, one of them being LTS. And this is even more true for the - arguably
called - server edition: it's like putting on the market a TIR truck that has
no double tyres and doing it twice.

Dustin,
could you please explain how do you run Hardy+RAID: it is still not clear to me
after reading the whole thread, sorry.

Thanks,

brunus

[Bug 120375] Re: cannot boot raid1 with only one disk

2008-04-12 Thread brunus
Hi Ken,
thank you very much for your precious effort! It did worked for me on a
Edubuntu 7.10, which I assume to be as an Ubuntu 7.10 server.

BUT:
1. as I tried to enter the shell in rescue mode, the chroot command was not
recognized by busybox telling me that /bin/sh was not found
So I gave up installing grub that way, I did it while up and running as
explained here: http://users.piuha.net/martti/comp/ubuntu/en/raid.html
Or you can use the Super Grub Disk. http://www.supergrubdisk.org/
2. I had to wait for the boot sequence to go in timeout. Just to let know
people to wait long enough before be driven in despair.

thanks again!

[Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working in Ubuntu Gusty/7.10

2007-12-09 Thread brunus
Hi Jose,
I'm quite a linux newbie myself, but applying a patch seems to be an easy task,
according to what I've read on the wikipedia under patch
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patch_%28Unix%29). On ubuntu, you have to install
the package patch first, in order to apply the patch via command line.
I'm also longing to try the patch, but so far I'm too busy with other stuff, so
I root for you Jose! :-)
good luck,

brunus

[Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working in Ubuntu Gusty/7.10

2007-11-28 Thread brunus
Hi Jose Armando,
make sure both machine have xnest (and openssh server) installed, and that you
activated the XDMCP distant login on both. Make sure that the -geometry option
is small enough to fit into your remote machine resolution (so, try 800x600). I
also have a Dapper and a Gutsy and I managed to connect this way in both ways
(A to B and B to A).
Display :0 is the default display, used by the user logged locally on the
target machine. You may try to connect to display :1, :2 or :3 whenever you get
a /tmp/.Xn-lock error which simply means that display is already in use. In
fact, when you log out abruptly, the machine doesn't automatically free up the
display you were using.

Answering to wormkid, I tried and successfully logout and login again no
problem, so I don't know whay you're having this problem. You may try to close
the Xnest window instead and reconnect using a different display, say :3
instead of :1.
When you have used the 3 extra displays, you have to reboot the target machine
in order for the /tmp to be cleaned up and have the 3 displays available again.

[Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working in Ubuntu Gusty/7.10

2007-11-26 Thread brunus
Hi,
while waiting for this bug to be fixed, I've found this workaround, that needs
openssh server and xnest to be installed on the remote machine:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20041117115414383
Not that user friendly, for sure, but it works, even from gutsy to gutsy...

I hope it helps.

[Bug 120375] Re: cannot boot raid1 with only one disk

2007-11-16 Thread brunus
Hey Peter Haight,
brunus again. I can't find any mdadm file in
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top so the patch just hangs. I'm using
Edubuntu 7.10 btw: is this patch just for Feisty?

thanks,

Paolo

Thanks arm-c !
Switching OPENGL_SUPPORt to "auto" in the /etc/openoffice/soffice.sh works for

[Bug 63676] Re: OpenOffice Crashes on Launch

2007-06-18 Thread Brunus
Hi All.
Running a Feisty Fawn Ubuntu and have this bug also.
I'm running Scim.

When using the free ATI radeon driver, no problems with Open Office, but when
running FGLRX then the crash occurs at start.
It's realy annoying...
I will try to give more infos, but it seems that this bug is around there since
a long time...perhaps it's time to switch status on confirmed ?

Sincerely.
Bruno.
