[Bug 1926976] Re: during mouse drag operations I'm getting undesired/unprompted dropping and potentially picking up of something else
Thanks for the help. I tried reducing input devices and pressing every key. The problem persists through those tests. What I eventually realized was my bluetooth mouse was the issue. Another mouse worked. The bluetooth one did not work when connected either through bluetooth or wired USB. [Bug 1926976] Re: during mouse drag operations I'm getting undesired/unprompted dropping and potentially picking up of something else
One more bit of description, though it is rare, this problem does happen when I am dragging a text selection. In my most recent example of that, the text selection jumped to a window move. I also didn't mention the detail that the location of the unrequested drop will be offset from the location of the unrequested pick up a new drag. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1926976 Title: during mouse drag operations I'm getting undesired/unprompted dropping and potentially picking up of something else To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1926976/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1926976] [NEW] during mouse drag operations I'm getting undesired/unprompted dropping and potentially picking up of something else
Public bug reported: I am not really sure this is an Xorg problem. Since my last system update (upon the system prompting), I think less than a week ago, I have noticed this troubling intermittent behavior. I go to drag (mouse- initiated) a window across some screen distances (between external monitors and my laptop's builtin monitor) the window will get dropped without me releasing the mouse button before arriving at my desired drop point. More than half the times this happens, something will immediately be picked up in a drag operation. Sometimes it is another window that begins being moved. Other times it is a window resize operation that is picked up. A third option is the selection of text. I have noticed that most of the time it is triggered when I am moving rapidly (though no more rapidly than I have done successfully in the past). Sometimes it happens when I pause during the drag operation. It even happens infrequently when I am dragging slowly. Often I can just go back and pick up the window and complete the operation. However, sometimes the problem just keeps happening until I give up and go away for 5 minutes or so. I have a stock configuration of 20.04. I keep it updated and haven't changed anything significant about X, Gnome, etc. I have done a few tweaks, but nothing I can think of that would relate to this problem. My laptop, a Dell XPS 13, uses a USB 3.1 hub and through that drives two monitors via HDMI. My mouse is bluetooth - Logitech MX Vertical. I don't believe I have installed any proprietary drivers. My 3 displays are arranged into an inverted "L" shape, as the laptop display is "below" and identically sized to the 27" monitor "above" it. The other 27" monitor is to the left of the first one. Re: [Bug 1879334] Re: Desktop Activities - first key typed is repeated 21 times
Hi Kai-Heng, Apparently this issue was a result of installing some (apt) updates and not rebooting. When I rebooted, the problem stopped. So, some installation artifact caused it or some update should have required reboot after installation. Since I cannot repeat the problem now, I don't think it makes sense to try an older kernel. But, my sense tells me this was a problem with the Gnome Shell and not the kernel. No repeating keys were seen in any other application or use, besides the one I reported. [Bug 802087] [NEW] LibreOffice Writer does not space characters correctly
Public bug reported: I've thought from the early days of Open Office, that Writer could be improved in the rendering of fonts, specifically in the character spacing. I have a screen shot of some text that illustrates the problem. I have underlined the word Trust. It can be seen that the r is too close to the u and too far from the t. It looks fine when it prints. Note the zoom is 100% and the font is Times New Roman 12. I have done nothing to configure kerning or change the character spacing. The problem persists even if I zoom in to 600%. Note, I was thinking that I was reporting the bug to LibreOffice developers when I picked the menu option from Writer to Report a Problem. I see this is going into Ubuntu. I hope that it gets to the LO folks. [Bug 782746] Re: Nautilus + 11.04 does not recognize laptop CD drive
This bug affects me. I also have a Aspire Timeline 5810TZ. It was a problem with prior releases too (back to Lucid). I had to go in an edit fstab to create an entry for the drive. I just had to do a install (rather than upgrade) of 11.04 (passwd policy would not accept a new password I entered and changed it to something else - lost access - should I report that as a bug?). I chose to do a fresh install. The CD/DVD drive is happily recognized during the install, but once the install is complete there is no desktop/fstab activity. udisks shows the drive and media als, but udisks --monitor-detail does not register a media insertion, though it does register a media ejection. I am going to run apport-collect for this bug and hopefully thats a correct procedure and not rude. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/782746 Title: Nautilus + 11.04 does not recognize laptop CD drive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/782746/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The CD/DVD drive is happily recognized during the install, but once the install is complete there is no desktop/fstab activity. udisks shows the drive and media also, but udisks --monitor-detail does not register a media insertion, though it does register a media ejection. [Bug 795550] [NEW] passwd failure resulted in change to unknown password
Public bug reported: I normally have my user password pretty simple since my computer is always under my control. I recently took a trip where I knew it was not going to be under my control so I changed it to be more complex, using passwd. When I returned from the trip, I tried to change it back to the simple one and an error was reported because of the new (?) password policy with Natty. So, it looked like it did not change the password. However, it did get changed to something which was neither the old one or the new one I requested. So I was locked out. I ended up having to reinstall. I know this is a tough one because I probably won't be able to repeat it, nor do I want to go through the install once again. I don't want to give you my password, but I will characterize it by saying the simple one was 5 lower case characters and 1 number. The complex one was 5 lower case characters and 4 digits. I tried to change from the complex one back to the simple one when the failure occurred. Anyway, because of the abnoxious nature of this problem, I wanted to report it, even though it may be difficult for you to do anything further. [Bug 774359] [NEW] Upgrade to 11.04 led to Window manager and UI failures
Public bug reported: I upgraded from 10.10, 64-bit to 11.04 this morning on my Acer Aspire Laptop via Internet. The install completed without errors and when it rebooted I logged in as usual. Then I found there was no window manager running. There was no panels, no window decorations and even the Alt-F2 keystroke failed to bring up the Run dialog. I had to create a Desktop Launcher to bring up a terminal. I could open an ODT document on my desktop (was surprised by Libre! I assumed that Open Office would be reinstalled) but could not move the window. When I left-clicked in the lower right resizer, it brought up the right-click context menu. I could start up Chrome from the terminal an d that wonderful application does allow it to be moved around without the window decorations. I logged out by killing the session process. When I logged back in, the same problem persisted. Then I logged out and logged in with the Gnome (safe) session. That worked and brought up the desktop I was used to (i.e. no Unity). When I tried to log in again via a normal session, the problem persisted. With a Gnome-classic session, I have all the functionality I had prior to the upgrade. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: 11.04 upgrade -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/774359 Title: Upgrade to 11.04 led to Window manager and UI failures -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 774491] [NEW] ubuntu-bug command fails if other selected
Public bug reported: I tried to use ubuntu-bug to report a problem with the 11.04 upgrade (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/774359) as directed here (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs). When I select the Other Problem kind of problem, I get an error dialog stating You need to specify a package or a PID. See --help for for more information. That GUI is really flawed. If the Other Problem is really going to be left as a fatal choice, then it should at least make it clear that you want someone to run the command ubuntu-bug --help. However, consider how one should proceed if they want to report a bug in the Ubuntu upgrade? I don't know what package or PID I would even give, and I can express that very condition on the web submission form, but this GUI gives me no way to do that. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/774491 Title: ubuntu-bug command fails if other selected -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 661790] Re: [STAGING] Ubuntu unsuable after return from suspend to ram
I experience similar outcome when restarting from hibernate, some of the time. The symptom I notice is that certain characters are garbled when displayed (e.g. %, !, +).
